Do you own a telescope or even go out and just look at the sky at night? Just wondering.

All the time, and I love to view nature in general. It's why I finally did move out to the woods as I always fantasize. The stars are amazing at night.
I owned a decent telescope when I was a kid used to live in the boonies too. Live in town now though, too much light pollution to see anything but I do visit the observatory at my college pretty often.

Halo, astronomy
You a stargazer?

I'm not sure what that is.

if we could apply quantum mechanics to neurology

I'm sure your efforts are sincere but this is the type of catch-all phrase thrown around by laymen that think you can just 'quantum mechanics' your way to any solution.
"Bu. . .but it's weird and I don't understand it."

For quantum effects to govern memory, or anything mental really, aspects of the brain would have to behave quantum mechanically. A brain, hell even a neuron, quantum mechanically speaking is a very large system and(as far as we know) barring extremely low temperatures(fractions of a degree above absolute zero) large quantum systems tend to approximate classical systems, meaning quantum effects shouldn't play a role unless we are missing something insane.

OP you may be interested in Roger Penrose's quantum mind theory. Absolutely no experimental support for it, theoretical objections are similar to the one I raised but I thought I'd just throw it at you.

I swear I really hate scientists sometimes. Hey get so caught up in making shit they don't stop to think about the dangers of making something that can form independent thoughts.
I'm invoking Murphy's Law here. If strong AI is possible it's going to happen eventually and w/ the way neurology, our understanding of consciousness, and advances in computation are going it may be soon. I'd rather it be sooner but in a semi-controlled fashion, by people that research this stuff professionally rather than unexpectedly.

>implying a statement is necessarily a lie if it isn't true

Edit: God I'm fucking dense today. Pinocchio could just use that same line of logic and come to the conclusion that his nose wouldn't grow and then say it again in which case we'd end up w/ the same paradox.Or come to the conclusion it would grow and etc.

Dear humanity, we regret being alien bastards, and we regret coming to earth. But most of all, we regret that the corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!
This.

Now Google needs to invent holograms so the A.I can have physical avatars.
i think i should inform you that volumetric holograms already exist

Wait really? o.O

yeah but as of now they're contained to little glass bubbles
That's pretty kewl.

Tupac hologram?

I thought that was just a 2D one though <.<
The Tupac and Vocaloid holograms, whilst really fracking impressive, are still just images projected onto a gigantic screen of glass iirc >.>
Oh, whoops.
