Francis pls
Pope Frankie is a pedophile? News to me.
I thought all popes were pedophiles
All poodles are dogs but not all dogs are poodles.

Spoiler
That analogy doesn't work here, anyway
I'm confused now
he's saying that all pedophiles are catholic priests.

This seems like an unambiguously good thing.
One would think so...
despite the fact that you and I both know that there are people that will complain.

Awww :(

Gonna watch it soon! My taste in modern blockbusters is usually off from like literally every person on the entire planet so...
it disappointed me about as much as gravity did (a lot). the plot didn't make much sense, the physics were COMPLETELY FUCKING WRONG, and the "professionals" that run the space program were incompetent and irrational idiots. also, it was 3 hours long.

2/10, would not recommend.
Damn, surprised the physics were wrong considering the film advanced the science behind black holes.
ACTUAL SPOILERS
yeah, there's totally a "3 dimensional 5th dimension" within black holes, allowing us to change the past with gravity or something. that's totally scientific.
Actually, I was reading this and it basically explains how insanely accurate the film is. That fifth dimension thing was basically this:
Spoiler
That's essentially the fifth dimension flattened into three dimensions. The fifth dimension is literally beyond anyone's comprehension, which is why 'they' made it three dimensional for Cooper to understand, according to TARS.
that does make sense, they were very particular about it being a Kerr black hole. Which is a duh now that I look at it because no real black hole should be a swarzchild black hole.
the most important plot device in the movie was the 7 years to an hour thing, but that was complete bullshit. i can overlook small inaccuracies, but in a movie heralded to be, essentially, a documentary, such a glaring error ruins it.
The only glaring error is in assuming a non-rotating metric when the film itself specifies a rotating one. The Kerr metric allows a stable orbit at a distance close enough for the magnitude of time dilation needed.

It's getting rave reviews by a culture that thinks they "fucking love science" because they saw a cool gif on Facebook. Don't take it scientific face-value, just enjoy the ride and set aside the knowledge that using real science would make a movie utterly boring.

Essentially this.

I just let them run with that.

Lottsa spoilers
Spoiler
The only bits that bothered me is the fact the gamma radiation coming off that accretion disk would have irradiated everyone's balls. Miller's planet shouldn't have existed and those ice structures on Mann's planet shouldn't have been nearly that stable considering their size. Also the fact they launched the rocket from middle of their fucking work area.

Spoiler
There are physical theories(a subset of stringtheory, which I'm skeptical about) where our universe is a 3 dimensional subset of a higher dimensional bulk. Considering they were dealing w/ speculation about what's in a blackhole, god like extra dimensional beings and the fact it's a movie I just let is slide.

Kip, the physicist, only worked on the visualizations of the black hole and worm hole so I'm not surprise there were a few mistakes.

Serious / Re: Would extremely advanced AI find existence pointless?
« on: November 09, 2014, 07:57:48 PM »
What do you mean "find life pointless"?

Do you mean "find life not worth living"? Because if you ask me that comes down to a value judgement, which is subjective.

Or are you referring to the possibility that life has no inherent meaning, or point(which I'm basically agnostic about). Which is a different question and answering "no" to one doesn't necessarily imply that you should answer "no" to the other.

[not enough information]

I would prefer that. Everyone in my life calls me that except work or legal situations.

Grinds my gears when I label my paperwork or food at my job with Smi and they try to reticule me. Or purposely insist on calling me my real name.

Well I think I'll post an update now.

Got a job at the JCPenny. I actually work tomorrow from 12-7pm. It's a temporary position but it will do.

I'm also considering on taking classes for the winter to stay busy.
Glad to hear you're getting out there.
