They want to, beyond that why does it matter?
The information could be of usage in the understanding of how the companies attract customers which can benefit so many things.

I feel as though there's something you want to say with that question. Some kind of hidden feeling, that you're not displaying.
People just do the things they want to do.
Where did you get that idea from?

I always wanted a tank. It would be perfect up here.
^

Sandtrap and I want tanks. I'd like a Patton pls.

Edit: I'd also like Vietnam Era military get up complete with a fat cigar to stick in my mouth and an m60 lmg to hold while my friend drives me around town as I hang out of the top hatch screaming about charlies.

nothing hidden, far as I know. People just do the things they want to do.

Thing is though, you do seem to be fishing for arguments
If that is how you perceive it to be, that's not my fault. That's your fault, for continuing to wear blinders. I get that everything associated with me is negative, but if you honestly think that I, Verbatim, guy who argues primarily about philosophy and meaning and shit like that, is going to waste his time arguing with people about Star Wars, then I'm sorry, you're delusional and heavily biased.

...Because I was. If someone told me, "The prequels suck, your opinions suck" I wouldn't have even replied. If anything, I would've been like, "lolk". That's it.

@Everyone who replied: This isn't a topic a short message rebuttal does justice to. Trying to condense this just makes you inherently come off as overly hedonistic or an absolute nihilist. That's just mathematically how a deductive post can be set up [statement -> contained premises -> restatement]. I shy away from this kind of stuff aside from dedicated philosophy forums for that very reason... "short" arguments against nihilism are always inherently unconvincing it seems. And, well, it brings up the topic of religion which is never fun to talk about online :P

tl;dr: Much of your arguments won't be convincing to any person fascinated with the concept of nonexistence. Just sayin' right now, I've seen too many people get pissed off by this discussion.

OT: If you really want to fight nihilism, you should read some more Camus XD
understood, it's a hard concept to articulate as it is. Trying to do so over a forum doesn't exactly help matters.

omg, just to be clear: I didn't mean to insinuate that your arguments were bad, invalid, or unsound, just that most of the time the other party probably won't be convinced! Or do I sound like more of a jerk now

Anyone else? Particularly, what would be a suitable size for a HMG/ Sniper rifle, considering that I have a .50 Cal Assault Rifle selection. I was thinking that the larger guns would be going for a 15x99 round instead of a 12x99.
This is a 20×109 mm anti-materiel rifle.

Here's the cartridge for scale.

Nihilistic thought is an unfortunate result of the pervasive and poisonous religious concept that life is worthless if if not lived in service of a god or carried on forever on the psyche of "deconverts".

The kicker is that the professor later gets hit , and subsequently dies, by a car driven by two pastors, who had planned on leaving on some trip days before but kept having mysterious car trouble. It was implied that the evil atheists death was providence of god.
That's not how it happened. The pastor's were in a car and witnessed the atheist get hit another car. They didn't actually hit him. You would know this if you had actually seen the movie.

If you're not careful, you WILL see shit like teachers telling their students the founding fathers wanted to build a "christian nation" or that democracy has its roots in Moses.

Actually had my highschool agriculture teacher explain why various domesticated animals came about because "god decided they should be like this".

She's gone now, but that sent up a couple red flags back when I was in highschool.
One of my science teachers regularly talked about teh 'Great Creator'.

Actually, the "pastors"  are the ones who talk to him while he is dying.

I came in here because I know a fair bit about guns, but then you started talking about something completely different than what I know about.
Pretty much this...

Is he RPing or something?
He is creating a sci-fi universe for a story he is writing.
Huh.

To the OP: 8x69mm for an SMG is not very believable.

Additionally, both the AR and Sniper are using what is essentially a .50cal slug (the only difference between the two you mentioned are the cartridge length) which is pretty fucking ridiculous.
If they're decked out in some big kick ass armor, then it's believable. It is a Sci-Fi universe. And in WH40k Space Marines use 19.05mm projectiles for their standard rifles.
Yeah, but nothing in 40k is supposed to be practical or even remotely believable.
I can dream, okay?
Actually this would cut down on recoil as the round picks up speed as it travels and doesn't have to have all it's energy imparted to it instantaneously. Potentially allowing an unassisted man to fire larger rounds. Design was found lacking but who knows, future developments could see a reevaluation. Definitely not for close quarters though.
I never thought about that, but now it makes me like the design more. Other than not working at close ranges without a change like having a charge propel it before the rocket fires, what other problems were there? I like guns, but being young and never having any hasn't made me very knowledgeable on the subject.

But face it, at this point we're just talking about babyrockets, why not go balls deep and hand the dudes full auto rpgs.
Because last time I got interested in this subject I found out that the Geneva convention banned explosive bullets. So, it would seem no.
they just weren't very practical, really expensive, and not all that accurate.

I think since the round is technically a rocket it doesn't fall under the distinction of explosive bullet.

Just for reference, the first number in the NATO nomenclature refers to the bore diameter and the second number refers to the over all cartridge length in millimeters.

For example the 5.56x45mm used by most modern service rifles the bore diameter is 5.56mm and the overall length of the cartridge is 45mm.

For an idea of the size.
Nitpicking here, but it's the case length, not the full cartridge.

if his standard soldiers are decked out in power armor a really fucking huge cartridge could work, but otherwise nope.
They'd still have to have super long fingers/palms to brandish such a monstrosity. And if you're in power armor, why the hell are you using a pistol?
I was mainly talking about service rifles. I don't think that tiny bore diameter on the handgun justifies the crazy cartridge length. Unless of course you want some insane ballistics.
