I'm not going to say American policy hasn't contributed either. It's certainly not solely responsible and the fascistic tendencies however were already there.

Unless consciousness is somehow non-physical I would bet my bottom dollar an AI could replace lawyers. Probably not in 15 years and that's assuming an AI would be interested in that instead of just killing us all.

Serious / Re: On the similarities between Nazis and Muslims« on: January 03, 2015, 01:11:26 AM »Well America plays a part as to why the Middle-East is such as shithole. Before the 40s, it wasn't all that bad and throughout history we saw many great societies flourish and intellect advance. America's financing of coups and toppling of strong leaders in favor of weak puppets lead to various groups wanting to take power because they think they're stronger and then this government doesn't have America there to back them up until their interests (oil) is at stakeI very seriously doubt america had much to do w/ the fall of islamic asia from a cultural beacon to what amounts to theocratic lunacy. Especially considering it happened centuries before. 2228

Goddammit I hate consumer electronics. If everyone was allowed to cut corners the way they do people would die. 2237
Serious / Re: Breaking smartphones« on: January 03, 2015, 12:00:53 AM »
I have a bit of a theory about why it's so easy to crack the screens.
I've noticed, at least every time I've cracked a screen, that when it happens people will try to catch it and it'll end up landing on the corner. The issue here is that the screens are glued all around the edge of the phone, causes there to be a lot of tension in the screen it self because it's being pulled in several directions by what really amounts to too much glue. When the phone lands on the corner it flexes and the tension in the screen causes it to crack. I bet if you were to glue the screens just in the corners this would happen less often. I have to replace a cracked screen now and intend on just replacing it myself in order to test it. 2239
