holy hell, going to lowell observatory got me saddened now that i left it. i spent some hours there looking at the sky and trying to believe how clear and full the sky was. constellations i recognized (they werent complete where i live, so they would be missing stars) werent recognizable. i could start seeing the milky way arm panning across the sky and the dense amount of stars had me re-imagine why our kind is neglecting the beauty of the cosmos. our ancestors loved this stuff back then, but now, people are just focused on wanting to see their phones or stupid shit.
honestly, why hasnt there been an initiative to use less light pollution in more cities around the world? cities all over would waste less energy, better health overall of the population would increase, and obviously, interest in astronomy would boom.
