Gaming / Blame Bungie

The former was meant to be Halo 3's (other) rocket launcher of course, so you can see 343's thinking behind the new (now scrapped?) launcher. Even now Bungie are fucking it all up.

I'm probably a little late, but hey, I doubt all you knew this already

Serious / Equality and Justice (Also, I require your help)

I have some questions which I would like you to answer, with the dual purpose of generating discussion and because I have Philosophy tomorrow and you are the only people I can ask at this moment in time.

If all people are equal, should all people be treated the same?

Is it fair to say everyone is in fact equal?

If the concept of equality was replaced primarily by the concept of justice when it comes to human rights, would the world be a better place?

MPs say yes to three-person babies
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-31069173

Well, this is certainly going to become one of the biggest medical and ethical talking points in years to come. On one hand i'm glad that such a technique exists to improve people's lives and give happiness to those that without this would perhaps never be truly happy. But on the other hand I can't help but see a slightly darker side in the fact that we are picking and choosing parts of people that we want, going against the most basic and natural thing for any animal-breeding.

How long is it until this type of selection of desirable parts extends to extremes? There's a very real chance that one day it'll be a lot more than 0.1%, it just seems as though this may one day present an entirely new way to control the population's attributes or makeup-something some nations (such as Singapore) already do vigorously.

Well, I look forward to playing Planetside 2 and H1Z1 with you lot then I guess; it seems as though they are going straight to Xbox support and are looking to grow their business exponentially into other areas too. Surely this can only be a good thing?

Does this mean multiple maps based off the Battle of Hoth? Previous Battlefront games have condensed it all into a single map, so i'm interested to see the meaning of this statement. Thoughts?

Gaming / HoloLens (Microsoft VR)
« on: January 21, 2015, 06:02:02 PM »
http://www.wired.com/2015/01/microsoft-hands-on/

Well, by all accounts the actual device sounds like it is really as good as the promo video shows it to be. If it's as good as it looks then it could be big, not gimmicky, the ability to do any one of those things would be astounding and actually useful, unlike every aspect of the kinect apart from voice control-which is limited because it's pretty shit.

Gaming-wise this could have any number of applications, it seems as if it can still function as an Oculus-style VR device whilst also doing the things Google glass wanted to do. MS should be sending out kits soon and the technology seems to be well developed already, 7 years is a good chunk of time after all. By the end of 2015 we could have a VR battle of HoloLens vs Morpheus vs Oculus, a truly next-gen console war-finally.

Also, holograms IRL in time for Star Wars ep7, nuff said

Thoughts?

Absolutely astounding, so much so freedom of speech and France's precious liberté. I really am amazed as to how the person responsible thinks this is in any way a good idea. As the article says, it condemns the terrorists and teaches how muslims are the most affected by terrorism, it teaches humility and understanding-two things the French government has been promoting these last few weeks.

Well shit, not exactly sure how I missed this. I quite like Forza, 3 and 4 were both great but 5 was a fucking joke. Microtransactions are awful, and 5 was a carbon clone of 4, so 6 had better seriously shake up the series or provide over 500 cars at least, because right now I seriously miss Gran Turismo 4

Gaming / Dying Light
« on: January 11, 2015, 01:27:11 PM »
I'd like to know your guys opinions on Dying Light, which releases on the 30th of this month. It's a game i've been interested in from it's announcement, I loved the original Dead Island and I thought Riptide was solid, but disappointing. Now I know that Dead Island 2 will be releasing this year too, but really it's Dying Light that is the true sequel to Dead Island, DL takes everything great about DI and throws in a parkour system, truly open world, a unique Day/Night system (and the addition of that watch, that omnipresent reminder of the need to survive gives off some serious Metro vibes, one of my favourite series) and amazing graphics. I've got a feeling it will slip under the radar a little, but what do you guys think about it?

Gaming / Bulletstorm
« on: January 08, 2015, 11:49:26 AM »
It's possibly the greatest standalone FPS of the last 5 years outside of the main franchises, and it's criminal that there's been nothing so far on a sequel.

But I am curious, wasn't it set within the GoW EU? And so doesn't that mean MS could potentially make a sequel, now that they own GoW

Gaming / 4 years old is the best time to start playing games
« on: January 02, 2015, 07:30:37 PM »
Seriously, if you start playing video-games any later you suck-not only are you at a disadvantage but it also means that you'll have missed out of some great games.

Instead of your head being filled with kiddie tv shit and stuff you grow up with explosions, epic stories, emotional journeys and works of interactive art.

Gaming / Anyone else played D4 (Dark Dreams Don't Die)?
« on: January 02, 2015, 05:12:56 PM »
It's the free game on X1 this month, it's by SWERY. I've played an hour or so of it and it's fucking weird, it's Japanese but the entire thing plays like a perfectly bland point-n-click whilst managing to be batshit crazy. (For example, you live with a random girl that acts like a cat, dresses cat-like, has different coloured eyes, is otherwise a hobo, she does your shopping [and is your in-game shop] and is disturbingly attractive). I'm going to continue playing it but i'm just curious if anyone else has played or at least heard of it?

57
Gaming / Halo 5's ranking is BS
« on: January 01, 2015, 09:56:19 AM »
The ranking system has no rhyme or reason to it at all, and it's ridiculously harsh. If I lose a game (whilst still getting 27 kills, 9 assists and only 7 deaths) it deducts 14 points, but if I win (with similar stats) it gives me ONE point. That's not right.

Someone explain how this guy (Gold 3)
Is ranked so much higher than me (Silver 1)

If it's supposed to be baed off wins/losses it's broken, if it's supposed to be based off of personal stats (which it should be) it's broken to the point it's Battlefield 4 at launch.

assault rifle needs a bigger clip

Yep, as we all know the Assault rifle always has a 32 round clip (except in CE of course, 60 round craziness); but hey, to please all the idiots that can't pace their rate of fire why not make it into a bloody LMG!? Considering the new AR can already take down two fully shielded foes with one clip if you are careful...
