The Flood / Many nameplates, not so many members.
« on: August 19, 2014, 10:51:46 PM »
From what I'm seeing, we're gonna have a bunch of nameplates. But, while we have all those nameplates, not all of us will use them.

So, how do we combat this problem? We either recruit more members or set up a vote for say, two to four nameplates with one being chosen and the others put in storage for possible future use.

What do you think, Flood?

Serious / ISIS and Ferguson Protest.
« on: August 19, 2014, 03:40:25 PM »
To make up for my shitty 'Planet of the Apes' crack with poor explanation, I will create this thread to discuss those crazy extremist Islamics and their association with Ferguson. To let you know, those assholes didn't get involved in the first place, but now they've gain interest in the protest.

CNN’s Jake Tapper took to the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, Monday night to talk to protesters about the shooting death of Michael Brown, but a sign reading “ISIS Here” held by an unidentified man got viewers’ attention instead.

The acronym is one used for the Islamic State terrorist group.

“Why is tonight so thankfully quiet and peaceful? What is different about tonight than previous nights?” the the CNN reporter asked Adrian Anderson, a former police officer from St. Louis, while the banner waved behind him.

“I think what’s different about tonight after meeting with community leaders and organizers and talking with police officers we have tried to set up a strategic peace plan so the people could freely march and their voices be heard,” Mr. Anderson replied, adding that the city needed more community policing.

On Twitter, TribeLive reporter Salena Zito posted “‘ISIS here’ sign behind @jaketapper is chilling.”

“Why is there a sign that says ISIS HERE? Either that was intentional or that was unfortunate,” tweeted user Daniel Baggett, the Blaze reported Tuesday. Buzzfeed reporter Miriam A. Berger later confirmed the sign’s authenticity.

Now, ISIS is telling those protesters to embrace ( crazy insane extreme radical) Islam and to fight the U.S. Government.

Spoiler
ISIS militants and their supporters are using social media to encourage protesters in Ferguson to embrace radical Islam and fight against the U.S. government.

Jihadists in Syria and Iraq and their sympathisers in the West have taken to Twitter to send messages of support to hundreds of demonstrators taking part in a ninth night of angry protests in the U.S. city following the shooting by police of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown.

The militants' tweets denounce local officers for the way they have attempted to quell the violence, make reference to historic acts of police brutality, and even use the hashtag #FergusonUnderISIS in an attempt to get angry young men in the city to declare allegiance to the Islamist group.

The news comes as footage purportedly taken from the scene of the Ferguson protests appeared to show one demonstrator marching along a street holding a sign reading 'ISIS is here'.

One ISIS sympathiser calling himself Mujahid Miski, who claims to be from Minneapolis–Saint Paul but suggests he is now based in 'the horn of Africa', has led the campaign to encourage those taking part in the protests to embrace radical Islam.

In one message he tweets: 'So how is democracy treating you guys? #FergusonUnderIS #Ferguson.'

He adds: 'I thought u guys back in #Ferguson were supposed to be Free & that u had equal rights. I'd really like to know what changed? #FergusonUnderIS'.

Miski goes on to retweet dozens of messages by a Twitter user with the handle @AmreekiWitness, who claims to monitor and support the growth of radical Islam in the U.S..

Amreeki Witness' messages focus on the treatment of black people in the U.S., praise Malcolm X for embracing Islam and urge angry young black men to take up the religion as it means the police 'will fear you'.

In one message Amreeki Witness mocks the curfew police have imposed in Ferguson to bring an end to the disorder, saying: 'We IS guys hate you for your freedom, eh? Just like that freedom uplifting curfew in #Ferguson? Wake up, or they'll never let you outside.'

As the social media campaign began to take hold, with dozens of radical Islamists commenting on the Ferguson protests, Amreeki Witness tweeted: 'May be time to organize the Muslims in America upon haqq and mobilize to #Ferguson. Defend the oppressed, start jihad here.'

The message attracted a large response, with one Islamist calling himself Amarka Al-Ahlam responding: 'Preach, brother. We must organize brigades in preparation for the oncoming storm. #FergusonUnderIS #JihadinFerguson.'

Amreeki Witness added: 'They cower in fear of us whilst they massacre and oppress you! It's time to strike fear into the hearts of the oppressors. #FergusonUnderIS'.

News of the militants' campaign to encourage Ferguson demonstrators to embrace radical Islamism comes as footage purportedly from a CNN live stream of the protests appeared to show one young man holding a sign reading 'ISIS is here.'

It is not known whether the banner - footage of which has not yet been independently verified - was in support of the militant group or, as seems more likely, it was an attempt to compare ISIS to the local police force or the U.S. government.

Nevertheless stills of the alleged CNN footage were embraced by jihadists who have claimed they prove jihadists are already playing their part in the protests.

Chilling images of the alleged ISIS banner being carried by demonstrators have been widely shared by ISIS sympathisers on social media, who have used them to encourage supporters based in America to travel to Ferguson to further stoke the violence in the city.

News of ISIS' attempt to hijack the Ferguson protests come as Palestinian Twitter users sent messages of support to the demonstrators and gave advice on the best way to cope with the tear gas police are using to disperse crowds.

As images emerged of heavily armed police and armoured tanks on the streets of nearby St Louis, many Palestinian Twitter users expressed their solidarity with demonstrators.

The messages of support from Palestinians come amid reports that many of the Ferguson protesters were heard chanting 'Gaza Strip' as they marched through the heart of the city.

TL;DR
ISIS trying to recruit; Trying to get Ferguson protesters to fight back against the Police and Gov.; Shitstorm imminent

Ebola virus disease (EVD) or Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) is a disease of humans and other primates caused by an ebolavirus. Symptoms start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus, with a fever, sore throat, muscle pain and headaches. Typically, vomiting, diarrhea and rash follow, along with decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys. Around this time, affected people may begin to bleed both within the body and externally.

It's an ugly mothafucka.

Spoiler
CONAKRY, Guinea (AP) — A Red Cross team was attacked while collecting bodies believed to be infected with Ebola in southeastern Guinea, the latest in a string of assaults that are hindering efforts to control West Africa's current outbreak.

One Red Cross worker is recovering after being wounded in in the neck in Tuesday's attack in Forecariah, according to Benoit Carpentier, a spokesman for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Family members of the dead initially set upon the six volunteers and vandalized their cars, said Mariam Barry, a resident. Eventually a crowd went to the regional health office, where they threw rocks at the building.

The attack is the most recent in a series that have plagued teams working to bury bodies safely, provide information about Ebola and disinfect public places. The most shocking was the abduction and killing last week in Guinea of eight people, health workers educating people about Ebola and the journalists accompanying them.

Ebola is believed to have infected more than 5,800 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and Senegal. The outbreak has grown into the world's largest ever for the disease, partially because it went undetected for months, began in a highly mobile area and has spread to densely populated West African cities. Resistance to efforts to control the disease — from outright denials that Ebola exists to fears that the very people sent to combat it are in fact carriers — has frustrated efforts to end or even slow the disease's spread in all three of the most affected countries, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, say officials.

In April, Doctors Without Borders briefly pulled out its team from the Guinean town of Macenta after their clinic was stoned. In Liberia, the homes of some of the infected have been attacked. Last week, Red Cross workers were threatened in Sierra Leone, Carpentier, the Red Cross spokesman, said.

The disease is so new to this part of the world and so terrifyingly lethal that many people fear all outsiders associated with Ebola, even if they are coming to help, said Meredith Stakem, a health and nutrition adviser for Catholic Relief Services. In addition, many people in these communities may not be familiar with even basic biological concepts of disease transmission, and Ebola is contradicting what they do know.

"There's not a lot of diseases that can be transmitted by corpses," she said. "It's hard for people to comprehend that the dead body is actually a threat."

Ebola is spread by bodily fluids including sweat and corpses are particularly infectious.

The handling of dead bodies is deeply personal and rooted in tradition, especially in many parts of West Africa where the washing of bodies is common. It is often the teams trying to prevent those practices that have been targeted, said Carpentier. Much of the resistance is in remote, insular areas.

"It has gotten better," he said. "The problem is it has to be 100 percent" or the virus will persist.

The conventional methods used to control Ebola — isolating sick people and tracing all their contacts — are buckling under the sheer size of the outbreak. On Wednesday, the World Health Organization offered hope that there may soon be another way to control the disease, saying there may be sufficient quantities of a vaccine by the end of the year to have some impact on the outbreak.

That would make this the first Ebola outbreak to be tackled with vaccines or medicines in the nearly 40 years since the disease was discovered. Because Ebola only pops up sporadically, there has been little incentive to develop any drug or vaccine; most of the promising candidates have been largely funded by governments.

"It may be that without a vaccine, we may not be able to stop this epidemic," Dr. Peter Piot, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a co-discoverer of Ebola, told a news conference this week. "In this outbreak, we are reaching the limit of what classic containment measures can achieve."

Authorities say they are investigating a first potential case of Ebola in Bolivia.

The patient, whose name and age were not given, had made stopovers in several cities in Africa, Santa Cruz health service manager Roberto Torres told Oxigeno online.

"Yesterday, we had a report from a private hospital on an Indian patient who is being treated for fever, diarrhoea and vomiting," he said.

The health ministry in South America's poorest nation just 10 days ago set rules on early detection of potentially infected people.

On Friday, the World Health Organisation said the outbreak sweeping West Africa has claimed 1,427 lives.

A Montreal hospital said Saturday that a patient who had showed symptoms consistent with the often deadly Ebola virus had tested negative for the virus, according to a press release from the hospital.
Dr. Karl Weiss, director of infectious diseases at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, said that since the Ebola outbreak in West Africa a few months ago, all Quebec hospitals have put in place “some very stringent protocols.”
“We have no choice but to implement our protocol because if it’s a real case, imagine if you don’t put in place all the measures,” Weiss told the Star.
These protocols were put in place for the first time at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital two weeks ago for another patient, Weiss added, and the results were negative.
A second patient, described as “a relatively young man,” was placed in isolation at the same hospital Saturday. The patient lives in Quebec but recently went to Guinea to visit his family, said Weiss.
“Yesterday he started being sick with fever and general flu-like symptoms,” Weiss said. “He came to the emergency room, and as soon as he came the protocol was implemented . . . but the patient is not severely sick, far from that.”
Weiss said the test samples were sent to the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg, and other patients at the hospital weren’t at risk.
Earlier this month a patient at a hospital in Brampton, Ont. was also placed in isolation over fear the person had contracted the virus, but ended up testing negative.
More than 1,400 people in Africa have died so far in the largest Ebola outbreak on record.
Weiss said that patients who have recently travelled to one of the four countries where Ebola is an issue — Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria — have their temperatures checked immediately upon arriving at the hospital.
“If they do have a fever they are put into isolation right away, and this will start the protocols in terms of infection control,” said Weiss. “With only supportive treatment and about a 60 per cent mortality rate . . . better to be safe than sorry.”

WHO warns of "Shadow Cases," hidden cases in Ebola Outbreak - Aug. 22, 2014

Spoiler
GENEVA (Reuters) - The scale of the world's worst Ebola outbreak has been concealed by families hiding infected loved ones in their homes and the existence of "shadow zones" that medics cannot enter, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.

The U.N. agency issued a statement detailing why the outbreak in West Africa had been underestimated, following criticism that it had moved too slowly to contain the killer virus, now spreading out of control.

Independent experts raised similar concerns a month ago that the contagion could be worse than reported because suspicious local inhabitants are chasing away health workers and shunning treatment.

More than 1,300 people have died from the disease and many experts do not expect the epidemic to be brought under control this year.

Under-reporting of cases is a problem especially in Liberia and Sierra Leone. The WHO said it was now working with Medecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to produce "more realistic estimates".

The head of MSF, which has urged the WHO to do more, told Reuters in an interview on Thursday that the fight against Ebola was being undermined by a lack of international leadership and emergency management skills.

The stigma surrounding Ebola poses a serious obstacle to efforts to calibrate the outbreak in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria, which has claimed far more victims than any other episode of the disease that was first discovered nearly 40 years ago in the forests of central Africa.

"As Ebola has no cure, some believe infected loved ones will be more comfortable dying at home," the WHO statement said.

"Others deny that a patient has Ebola and believe that care in an isolation ward – viewed as an incubator of the disease – will lead to infection and certain death. Most fear the stigma and social rejection that come to patients and families when a diagnosis of Ebola is confirmed."

Corpses are often buried without official notification, the WHO said, while an additional problem is the existence of numerous "shadow zones", or rural villages where there are rumours of cases and deaths that cannot be investigated because of community resistance or lack of staff and transport.

In other cases, where treatment is available, health centres are being immediately overwhelmed with patients, suggesting there is an invisible caseload of patients that is not on the radar of the official surveillance systems.

STRATEGY PLAN

The WHO said it had drawn up a draft strategy plan to combat Ebola in West Africa over the next six to nine months, implying that it does not expect to halt the epidemic before the end of the year.

"WHO is working on an Ebola road map document; it's really an operational document how to fight Ebola," WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said at a news briefing. "It details the strategy for WHO and health partners for six to nine months to come."

Chaib, asked whether the timeline meant that the United Nations health agency expected the epidemic now raging in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to continue into 2015, said: "Frankly, no one knows when this outbreak of Ebola will end."

Ebola will be declared over in a country if two incubation periods, or 42 days in total, have passed without any confirmed case, she said. Nigeria is the fourth country with known cases.

"So with the evolving situation, with more cases reported, including in the three hot places - Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia - the situation is not yet over," Chaib said.

"So this is a planning document for six to nine months that we will certainly revisit when we have new developments."

The WHO expects to issue details of the plan early next week, she said.

In a sign of spreading international alarm, Senegal, West Africa's humanitarian hub, said it had blocked a regional U.N. aid plane from landing and was banning all further flights to and from countries affected by Ebola, potentially hampering the emergency response to the epidemic.

(Reporting by Stephanie Nebehay in Geneva, Ben Hirschler in London and Emma Farge in Dakar; Editing by Mark Heinrich)
TL;DR
There are people hiding Ebola victims because they're familiy; this means that there are more possible cases than recorded.

-"It was a Beautiful Day" (Destiny Fic. by Long Face)
-Post your art galleries (Nuka's art thread)

So why not have a Galleries board? Now, I'm not telling to make it right now, because I understand that you have a lot on your hands. But, take the idea into consideration at least.

« on: August 08, 2014, 10:22:51 AM »
For those who drink coffee, what creamer do you use? Do you think your creamer is superior.

For those who don't drink coffee, but instead, tea... what type of tea do you prefer to drink? Do you think it is superior?

OT : Hazelnut creamer master race!

The Flood / (Un)Official 'Random Facts' thread!
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:28:55 PM »
I remember an epic 'random facts' thread back on B.Old and have decided to reincarnate it here! I'll start off and will put some interesting facts from you up here too!

>The numbers '172' can be found on the back of the U.S. $5 dollar bill in the bushes at the base of the Lincoln Memorial.

>President Kennedy was the fastest random speaker in the world with upwards of 350 words per minute.

>The most money ever paid for a cow in an auction was $1.3 million.

>Cats can hear ultrasound.

>The last veteran of the American Civil War died in 1959, long enough to see the atomic bomb dropped in Japan.

GOGOGO!

Gaming / Which Halo game had the best enemy variety?

Which game had the best enemy variety?

I'd say Halo 2 because of the introduction of new covenant species, the scarab, the golden and mega-sentinels, the prophets, and the Flood. Hopefully, we'll have all those in the upcoming Halo games, barring the Flood unless... you know... they're still around. (Which would make sense, considering that other installations could be holding them.

The Flood / Scariest form of warfare...
« on: August 05, 2014, 11:18:04 PM »
Which kind of warfare scares you the most, Flood?

Biological scares the utter shit out of me. I mean seriously. Throw some weaponized Ebola into a Japanese subway during rush hour and in a few days Japan'll be #rekt.

For those that need this explanation (Cyber)...
Spoiler
The option 'Cyber' refers to anything cybernetic, whether it be computers, robots, androids, and/or other forms of cyber warfare. Think Terminators or HAL 9000.
