I'm more curious as to how he's handling the ISIS presence in Syria.

Before, he was pitting ISIS against the rest of the rebels to weaken both of them before swooping into them and finishing them off. But since last month, Assad's unofficial truce with ISIS came to an end and now they're at full-scale war. But their current strategy is to hold the line while their offensive strength is going into Aleppo in force. For the last two years, the city's been a trench war with either side controlling between 40 and 60% of the city throughout the battle. But the Government forces have moved around Aleppo and they have the city nearly entirely surrounded. If and once Aleppo falls, my guess would be them either heading to Raqqa or Deir ez Zor (the former is completely occupied by ISIS, while the latter is split between Government and ISIS). Most of the country is a warzone though, and there are many other strategic areas, so I couldn't really guess. The Syrian war isn't so much one war as it is tens of wars which form one gigantic war.

Assad has been barrel bombing his civilians into oblivion he's need to be quickscoped asap. I would have preferred if there was no war in the first place since nearly 200k have died but they've already started so why stop.

It's not like he's bombing his civilians in random Government-occupied area. He's been bombing extremely fortified and strategically vital areas held by the Rebels. More so since the Government has most of their attention towards breaking the two-year stalemate in Aleppo. And what do you know, that's where the vast majority of barrel bombs are going to.

These are war tactics, not terror tactics. Everything he has done was to ensure that the regime would continue. The US would undoubtedly stoop to Assad's level if they were in a war for their very survival.

I get that civilians are the true losers of the war, and it REALLY sucks that they're in the crossfire. But they just happen to be in the wrong place in the wrong time for such a large war.
