For the fans I find the ones that buy the game every year or every other year or two retarded. They are wasting money on buying Madden 18 when it's no different than Madden 14. The only changes to it are players and stats. I highly doubt there's going to be that many new options if any.
You could say that about any game though.
If you've played one Assassins Creed or COD, you've played them all.
Which Assassins Creed games have you even played? Because they most certainly aren't reskins like Fifa is every year.
AC1-3 and black flag.

-AC2 plays like a refined, better built AC1 with new mechanics that differentiate it enough from AC1.
-AC Brotherhood has a drastically different combat system from AC2. It added new mechanics like parachutes and plenty of other stuff like the Assassin recruit system.
-Revelations is just Brotherhood 2.0, yet it still added new stuff like the bomb crafting system and the Den defense system.
-AC3 is drastically different from the previous games. It has new combat system, new parkour system, ship combat, hunting etc etc. Plus it runs on an entirely new engine.
-AC4 fully expanded on ship combat which makes it nothing like the previous games. Ship boarding, new and better hunting, underwater levels, a new ranged weapon mechanic etc etc.
-Rogue further expanded on ship combat. It added new environments that affect ship combat, new ship weapons, you can be boarded by enemy ship crew. It also added the Assassin Den takeovers, new enemies that actually act like Assassins.
-Unity, again, is nothing like previous games. Entirely new combat and parkour systems that were developed from the ground up, stealth focused making it harder, new customisation that affects your playstyle, new weapons that affects your playstyle, massive crowds, a cover system, missions that adapt to how you play. I could go on.
The games aren't pumped out in a year like Sports games are.

For every change you just listed, I could name just as many for sports games from year to year.

NBA2k and NBA Live compete. Both games are pretty different.
Same with FIFA and PES. So are how both games "pretty different" when the NBA games are still basketball games and the bottom ones are still soccer games? What about them makes them different from each other? You're still playing basketball in the one and the other you're still playing soccer. I take it by different you're just talking about the titles of each game and the players?
I really don't have the will nor the time to list all the changes. But to your second post, Thats like saying COD and Battlefield are the same because they are both war shooting games. If you play FIFA and then play PES, and you don't notice a difference, you need your eyes checked.

How exactly do you compete with sports games? Madden 16 would be the same exact thing as the competitor. Unless the competitor makes a made up spin-off of football there's not going to be any competition between them unless it involves price.
