Serious / Slippery slope is not a fallacy

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/9113394/Killing-babies-no-different-from-abortion-experts-say.html

>The Article, published in the Journal of Medical Ethics, says newborn babies are not “actual persons” and do not have a “moral right to life”. The academics also argue that parents should be able to have their baby killed if it turns out to be disabled when it is born.

>The journal’s editor, Prof Julian Savulescu, director of the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, said the article's authors had received death threats since publishing the article. He said those who made abusive and threatening posts about the study were “fanatics opposed to the very values of a liberal society”.

>The article, entitled “After-birth abortion: Why should the baby live?”, was written by two of Prof Savulescu’s former associates, Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva.

>They argued: “The moral status of an infant is equivalent to that of a fetus in the sense that both lack those properties that justify the attribution of a right to life to an individual.”

>Rather than being “actual persons”, newborns were “potential persons”. They explained: “Both a fetus and a newborn certainly are human beings and potential persons, but neither is a ‘person’ in the sense of ‘subject of a moral right to life’.

“fanatics opposed to the very values of a liberal society”.

A takfiri zionist polytheist fire-worshipping professor and shiite mullah was teaching class on Ali, a known kuffar

”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Ali (peace be upon him) and accept that he was the most holy being the world has ever known, even greater than Muhammad!”

At this moment, a brave, devout, Sunni islamist champion who had bombed 1500 Shia temples and understood the necessity of jihad and fully supported all military decisions made by Saudi Arabia stood up and held up a copy the Quran

”Who is the true defender of the faith, pinhead?”

The arrogant professor smirked quite Persianly and smugly replied “The Ayatollah, you stupid Sunni”

”Wrong. Muslims don't worship a flame and 12 false prophets. If your Ayatollah is, as you say, the defender of the faith… then he would be ruling Mecca and Medina by now”

The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of The Avesta. He stormed out of the room crying those Iranian crocodile tears. The same tears Iranians cry for the “Shia” (who today live in such apostasy that they draw pictures of the prophet) when they jealously try to claw justly earned wealth from the deserving Saudi royal family. There is no doubt that at this point our professor, Xerxes Khamenei, wished he had accepted the one true faith and become more than a jewish crusader puppet. He wished so much that his cult had legitimacy from the historical khilafa, but he himself had rejected it!

The students applauded and all destroyed false idols that day and accepted Muhammad (pbuh) as their prophet. An eagle named “Abu Bakr” flew into the room and perched atop the Saudi Arabian Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. The Shahadah was recited several times, and Allah himself showed up and enacted a Zakat tax across the country

The professor lost his tenure and was beheaded the next day. His body was eaten by vultures which burst into flames and died as well

Based on how much of a clusterfuck the siege of Mosul has been, I wouldn't think twice about throwing out Obama administration plans either.
Urban warfare is a bitch, yo. Regardless of what you do, it'll always be some of the most intense and brutal fighting in modern combat.
This doesn't excuse the extreme overconfidence displayed at the start of the siege, especially when you look at losses. Some of the Iraqi army's best units have been devastated, and often for really stupid reasons. The Golden Division got really fucked up because they were poorly utilized. The whole operation reeks of incompetence on the part of the US and the Iraqis.

You guys need to learn that Islam has as many factions as Christianity. Wahabists aren't representative of Islam any more than Catholics are in Christianity. If there was a button that killed all wahabists, it should be pushed.

Wahabists want to cause a war between "The West" and Islam. They want all Westerners to turn on Muslims. Without them you find a bunch of people who really do just want to live their lives.
The vast majority of Sunni muslims outside of the Pacific islands, and thus the majority of muslims in contact with westerners, are sympathetic to Wahabbism or hold Wahabbist ideas. You can thank the Saudis for that.

And part of the reason Wahabbism is so concerning is that it is promoting ideas already present in Islam, and actually getting Muslims to adhere to long-suppressed Islamic values. Salafists are good Muslims and that's the problem- good Muslims make the world a worse place.

So you're saying I should legit be terrified of some white outcast shooting up my college?
Not terrified, but you might want to be wary of a white guy who harbors misanthropic ideas and behaves suspiciously.

Likewise, you should be a bit more concerned about a black man in loose-fitting clothes approaching you on an empty street at night than you should an asian man in skinny jeans and a cardigan.

Now we can talk about WHY these things are how they are and I don't think it's an inherent genetic thing, but you can't write off all generalizations for being generalizations. And, of course, these generalizations must be balanced by situational awareness, understanding of others, circumstances, etc.

This is nothing you don't already know and that's kind of my point.

"hate speech" is very needed in today's society.
Not really. Whites shouldn't be going around saying blacks and jews are the devil and need to be taken care of. Promoting a race above another and advocating for bigotry isn't a very good thing to do.
well duh saying kill a whole race  isn't good. but we should be able to recognize when certain demographics of people do bad things. unfortunately labeling people by race is "hateful" when it at times can be legitimate.
Really? Not all muslims are terrorists, not all mexicans steal jobs, not all blacks are hooligans, and not all white people shoot up schools.

There is no such thing as being "legitimate" when you throw a blanket over an entire race and unanimously apply it to each and every single person.
This is only a problem if you have autism and are unable to grasp nuance, though.

When "race realists" (I am not one of these) make generalizations about ethnic groups, they usually realize that there are exceptions. Even your most autistic /pol/lack will generally recognize that not all Jews are nepotistic manipulators and not all Africans are animalistic degenerates. The question is not whether their ideas about a group are 100% true for every individual, but whether or not they are broadly true enough that they should affect one's behavior. And, although I dislike the idea, it's not something you can write off immediately as ignorance, especially when you start looking at relevant statistics.

I realize these types adore the idea of saying "the 'tolerant' left is intolerant of opposing views", but at some point you have to realize letting Germany run death-camps is not permissible if you want to live in a world of diversity.
You realize you just equated Milo's making fun of SJWs to the Nazi genocide campaign, don't you?

I want you to take a step back and think about this for a moment.
That's your conflation, not mine.

That was to establish that the idea that someone who claims themselves "tolerant" must be tolerant of any and all beliefs or expressions, is a clearly flawed way of thinking of the word tolerate.

I'm not saying Milo is killing Jews. I'm saying there is a definitive point at which a tolerant person can't tolerate opposing views. Therefor the argument that the left has to accept someone yelling Nigger or Fag is possibly fallacious, because where that definitive line is drawn is a matter of subjectivity. If you want to discuss where it lies, that's an open discussion. But to say that the left is hypocritical or contradicting itself is simply wrong.
Then why not just say "yelling nigger"? There's quite a big jump between outright genocide and calling people mean names, and it includes actual engagement in violence.
We do say that. Why should it be acceptable? All the word does is encourage minorities to shy away from places where that dialogue is spewed openly. That's the point. If speech is harmful to the point it discourages a group from even existing in that space, then that speech isn't conducive to diversity.
So we're defining what is and is not acceptable speech based on how conducive it is to your definition of diversity?

Quote
I would say calling transwomen men trying to infiltrate women's restrooms like rodents is akin to calling a black person a monkey, nigger, etc. At least when the argument for sex based bathroom regulation is framed around defending women from sexual predators who pretend to be trans, a discussion can be had about the effectiveness of the policy or about the weight of the consequences. But just calling trans people degenerates doesn't contribute to the discussion, it does nothing but discourage it.
I don't really think you have any right to complain about others discouraging discussion when you want to decide what is or is not acceptable discussion in the first place.

Allowing a white nationalist to speak about how whites are the superior race and that we should kick immigrants out is not a productive "two way" street at all though. People shouldn't NEED to hear that kind of message because nothing productive comes out of it. It's fascism.
Delete your account.
Hate speech should not be tolerated. It's toxic. Anyone who thinks free speech = say whatever you want without punishment, is stupid. There are limits. And that's just talking with the government. People don't have to put up with it even more so.
Either this is bait disguised as ignorance, or you're too stupid to understand the consequences and implications of what you're advocating. I'm not sure which of these I find more likely.

Do I need to explain to you what's wrong with what you're saying?
You act like this isn't already a thing in other nations. You can't wave a nazi flag or do the salute freely in Germany without a fine. I'm not saying jail people who do it, but just saying "free speech means everything should be free" is naive as hell. It's exactly what helped give rise to right wing fascism.
Firstly, I don't give a fuck how europoors do it. Especially not the treacherous krauts.

Second, "Hate Speech" isn't real. It's a nonsense category that can include whatever you want it to include, so long as you're willing to engage in the necessary amount of mental gymnastics. I can quite easily drag shit like "Smash the fash!" or "Make X Group Afraid Again!" into it, because these ideas target a particular group. It doesn't matter whether or not you or people like you agree with that assessment, because once I'm in power I can expand the definition even further to shut you and your subversive hate speech up.

When you create categories like this, you blow the doors wide open for anyone who would use institutional power to silence dissent. In fact, that is essentially what you are already advocating.

Just because "right wing fascists" (a category that, I assure you, does not include Milo "black dick" Yiannopoulos) promote ideas that displease you does not mean that those ideas should be suppressed. Because you are not, objectively, right. You and your side do not hold a monopoly on truth, and neither you nor anyone else should be allowed to silence those who would propose alternative ideas.

You may think you hold a monopoly on truth and, hell, you may even try to impose your idea of what is and is not acceptable thought on others. If you do this, however, you may well wake up one morning with a boot on your throat, because you tore down the very institutions that protected you from real authoritarians in the name of ideological and political expediency.

It's quite reasonable to draw the line at promotion of violence. Go further, and you're risking the very values that you tell yourself you stand for.

Furthermore, if an idea is so dangerous to your values that you feel it must be violently repressed in order to preserve them, that probably means you're wrong.

A French soldier guarding the Louvre in Paris has shot a man who tried to attack a security patrol with a machete shouting "Allahu Akbar", police say.

The man, who tried to gain entry to the Louvre's shopping centre, was shot in the abdomen and seriously injured.

Reports say he is an Egyptian man, 29, who arrived in France last month. Police have not released his identity.

President Francois Hollande said the situation was under control but the "threat of terrorism is here to stay".

The Louvre, which is home to numerous celebrated art works, including the Mona Lisa, is due to reopen on Saturday.

The incident began at 10:00 local time (09:00 GMT) in the Carrousel du Louvre shopping centre at stairs leading to an entrance to the museum itself.

A patrol of four soldiers are reported to have tried to subdue the assailant using non-lethal force after he rushed at them.

When this failed and after one soldier was injured, five shots were fired. The suspected attacker was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

An image circulating in French media, said to have been taken by a tour guide, shows what is believed to be the suspect lying at the foot of the stairs, surrounded by armed soldiers.

Two rucksacks belonging to the suspect, who shouted "God is greatest" in Arabic, have been inspected but no explosives were found.

Le Figaro newspaper reports that the suspect is an Egyptian who entered France on 26 January from Dubai. Investigators are still reportedly trying to establish his identity.

This is your weekly reminder to support Le Pen.

Is it unheard of for an incumbent president to have to go into another primary in his second term election? Depending on how consistent Trump is with his behavior, I can see the GOP wanting someone to topple him and Jeb seems like the perfect person. Trump's childish insults of low energy and attacking his wife would only damage him at that point.

Quote
WASHINGTON – The White House warned Israel on Thursday – in a surprising statement – to cease settlement announcements that are “unilateral” and “undermining” of President Donald Trump’s effort to forge Middle East peace, a senior administration official told The Jerusalem Post.

For the first time, the administration confirmed that Trump is committed to a comprehensive two-state solution to the Israeli- Palestinian conflict negotiated between the parties.

The official told the Post that the White House was not consulted on Israel’s unprecedented announcement of 5,500 new settlement housing units over the course of his first two weeks in office.

“As President Trump has made clear, he is very interested in reaching a deal that would end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is currently exploring the best means of making progress toward that goal,” the official said.

"With that in mind, we urge all parties to refrain from taking unilateral actions that could undermine our ability to make progress, including settlement announcements,” the official added. “The administration needs to have the chance to fully consult with all parties on the way forward.”

Trump plans to bring up the peace process in his meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House scheduled for February 15.

On Thursday, Netanyahu reiterated his support for the settlement enterprise and said, during a visit to Ariel, that in the last week alone he had announced the advancement and authorization of 900 homes in that city.

Until now, Israeli officials have not known what to make of Trump administration policy on the issue of settlements specifically and, more generally, on the challenge of Middle East peace: Under Trump’s leadership, reference to a two-state solution was removed from the Republican Party platform over the summer, and the president’s envoy to Israel has publicly supported the settlement enterprise.

Trump has, however, repeatedly called peace between Israel and the Palestinians the “ultimate deal” – one that he has tasked Jared Kushner, a top adviser and his son-in-law, with moderating.

“I think it’s designed to chill some of the exuberance of those on the Israeli Right who think they have a blank check,” Dennis Ross, a senior Middle East diplomat and veteran of the George H.W. Bush, Clinton and Obama administrations, told the Post. “I think that exuberance got their attention. I just don’t think they want any announcements that will surprise them, and they’re still in the process of formulating what their policy is going to be.

“It sounds like they want to convey a pretty blunt message,” Ross added.

It's funny as fuck to me that Antifa shitbirds think they're fighting for freedom and tolerance when they assault political dissidents and recieve funding/support from orgs owned by the masters of international finance.

Or, rather, it would be funny if they weren't actually endangering people's lives over this shit.
