Governments cease to exist if they don't have citizens, so they have a vested interest in supporting and subsidizing heterosexual marriages that result in children being born, which allows the country to continue to exist; Gay people can't have children so Gay marriage makes no sense as a function of the government.
Religion is pretty clear on it's rules and you can't change them, that's what makes it a religion. You could vaguely argue that liberalism is a religion of it's own with it's own belief structure (multiculturalism), god (equality), devil (Hitler), and churches (universities); so there you go, make your own religion if you want that justification, no need to force Christianity to change.
Society recognizes and (ideally) respects heterosexual marriage because again, having kids is what keeps the country and society alive, it's non-optional. There's nothing uniquely respectable about a sexual relationship on it's own, if you have or adopt kids then there's something to respect; So society in general has no reason to legitimize Gay marriage.
Before anyone says it, yes this does mean that I don't see any point in a guy and girl getting married if they don't want/ can't have kids, that's the entire point of marriage.

The longest it has ever taken to confirm a Supreme Court nominee is 125 days. Obama has 361 days left in office.
We are under nine months from the 2016 Presidential elections, as well as the election that will determine the Senate majority. The GOP in the Senate are not going to give the Democrats and Obama any victory prior to the election - they have no need to. There is no Congressional requirement to approve a justice within a certain amount of time. On top of that, there is the Thurmond Rule in play.

StoryTexas Governor confirms Scalia DeathAssociate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.
Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa.
According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.
Chief U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia, of the Western Judicial District of Texas, was notified about the death from the U.S. Marshals Service.
U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia's death.
"I was told it was this morning," Biery said of Scalia's death. "It happened on a ranch out near Marfa. As far as the details, I think it's pretty vague right now as to how," he said. "My reaction is it's very unfortunate. It's unfortunate with any death, and politically in the presidential cycle we're in, my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is
elected."
The U.S. Marshal Service, the Presidio County sheriff and the FBI were involved in the investigation.
Officials with the law enforcement agencies declined to comment.

Problem is that Icy doesn't have much of a case. Reporting sexual assault is always the right course of action, but this is essentially a "he said - he said" kind of deal. Icy's word against his, with no visual signs of sexual assault or witnesses. Unless the other guy has priors, there's not much that can be done about this.
Pretty much this. Still not a reason not to report it, though.
I may report it, but to the Title IX coordinator on campus - look for more a punishment in terms of his standing here.

Well as shitty as your experience was, I don't really agree with your laws. Touching someone inappropriately is not at all comparable to full blown penis-in-the-orifice nonconsensual sex.
Which is why I didn't plan to report it. And the legal system does have seperate charges for the various things here. It's not like there's one charge for any offense.

I was originally going to post this in Anarchy as an anonymous thread, but I figured that a forum with no rules likely wasn't the greatest place to share something like this. So, it's now 2:30 in the morning and I'm typing this thread up with no clear idea or direction as to where it's going to go. If you want to ask stuff or offer advice, I'll take whatever at this point. Details are in spoilers in case you honestly don't want to read it. Spoiler Counselor said it was good to just write and get my emotions out of my head, so I'm doing it here. Feel privileged.
The assault happened the last weekend of January, in another dorm room on campus. The guy and I had been chatting and he invited me over to hang out and, because I'm apparently stupid, believed that he was better than he really was. So I went over to meet him and...yeah. Things kind of went downhill from there - he was trying to get me naked and his hands into my crotch as I kept saying no and to stop. Was biting at my neck and telling to relax, he'd take care of things. Only reason he stopped initially was because one of the roommates walked into the living room.
I blame myself for this, even though everyone says not to. Guess that's normal. Haven't reported it to the police, though my counselor set me up with a Title IX coordinator this week. I think that's good.
Like I said, not really sure where this thread is/was going. Might add more to it as other stuff happens, but yeah.
