I'm not sure I understand the situation

1412
Didn't this fail

The RNC essentially ignored the petition and pushed the rules forward without debate or a roll call.

So, yes. But many of the delegates on the floor were, and still are, pissed

1413
Get him in line with what? And would ever that be honestly work on someone who has said he only planned to run to prove a point?

Get in line with their ideas of what a Presidential candidate should and shouldn't do (Such as his criticism of Judge Curio), his immigration policies, etc. Trump is an unconventional candidate with no filter, and that scares a lot of Republicans currently in power.

The RNC ignored the petition to force a vote, despite carrying enough support votes, which has led to the Colorado delegates to walk out of the convention.

1414
This will backfire. Nearing the end of August and removing the nominee will put them in a considerably weak position in November. They're not thinking clearly, but then again neither party has for the last decade.

They know that this won't remove Trump - this is an effort to get him in line with the party by showing that there is a significant portion of Republicans that still don't feel he is the best choice for the party

Story

Quote
Cleveland — Republicans looking to unseat Donald Trump as their party’s presidential nominee appear to have the signatures they need to force a full vote on the national convention rules, a move intended to provide a platform for anti-Trump voices and to embarrass the billionaire.

To force that vote, the faction would need signatures from the majority of delegates from 7 states or territories. According to documents provided to POLITICO, they have a majority of signatures from 9: Colorado, Washington state, Utah, Minnesota, Wyoming, Maine, Iowa, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The group says former New Hampshire Sen. Gordon Humphrey has submitted the signatures to the convention secretary.

Submitting those signatures would force a roll call floor vote from all 2,472 delegates to the convention on the Republican National Committee rules that an 112-member panel voted through last week. Those rules required pledged delegates to vote for the candidate dictated by their state’s primary or caucus results, a system that would allow Trump to clear the number of votes he needs for a nomination. The faction is hoping those rules will be voided and replaced with rules that allow delegates to vote their conscience.

While they’re highly unlikely to win the roll call vote, the Never Trump delegates hope to at least draw attention to their cause and, with a large vote count, prove what they've long claimed: that a significant section of the party still doesn't support the presumptive nominee.

The RNC and Trump campaign have been working to avoid such a vote, hoping to present a united front at the convention.

It's gonna be a very long few days in Ohio.

Icy, wanna make a new poll? Or I can do it. Or maybe you'd have better insight on how accurate the current poll is.

So, I removed Sanders from the poll on Tuesday, after he gave his endorsement speech of Clinton. At that time, he had 41% of the vote. Clinton looks like she has gained one vote since then, while Trump has gained 1-2 - that leaves a good 30+ votes uncounted for since Tuesday.

If you'd like, I can make a new thread + poll with updated dates (including convention dates, debate dates) and full party tickets (President + VP).
Let's do it. We're getting into the generals and a new poll and hub thread would be awesome.

Alright, if there are no further qualms, I'll lock the thread and get started on a new one. Expect it up within a couple hours once I finish dinner.

severe measures against those part of the coup
Against the higher ups or everyone who was involved?

I'd imagine many, if not most everyone involved

I can't go to any news site without hearing about the coup and getting annoyed again that it failed.

It's always funny to see how democracy dies, and this time it's in the masses of the people.

From what I've heard, nobody really knows who has control right now. Has the situation changed over there?
From what I understand: The military controls Ankara, and Erdogan controls Istanbul. It isn't clear yet if any side has emerged victorious.

This is what I've come to understand.

Erdogan is talking in istanbul but ankara is still being bombed

Not really a surprise - as powerful as a city Istanbul is, the military is focused on taking Ankara. Erdogan will speak from elsewhere to show that neither side has truly consolidated power.

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey's prime minister says a group within Turkey's military has engaged in what appeared to be an attempted coup.

Binali Yildirim told NTV television: "it is correct that there was an attempt."

Yildirim didn't provide details, but said Turkey would never allow any "initiative that would interrupt democracy."

Earlier, military jets were heard flying over the capital, Ankara. Media reports said ambulances were seen in front of the Turkey's military headquarters.

« on: July 13, 2016, 02:37:12 PM »
My guess is Pence.

Christie is too dis-likeable.

Pence isn't exactly the most liked Republican either - after the whole religious freedom law last year, his approval ratings never really improved to what they once were, though they have stagnated in the upper 40's. He's also faced criticism from members of his own party in-state, for his desires to create a state run news organization, his handling off the religious freedom law, and a couple of other issues.

Sure, he's a ton better than Gingrich. But people saying Pence would deliver Trump easy wins in the mid-west are a bit over their heads.

No chance in hell Trump wins any swing states.  I live in Georgia, so I'm not voting because it doesn't matter, but also both candidates are shit.  That said, if I was in a swing state I'd be inclined to vote Hilary just to not see the orange in office.

I'll bet my house he wins 3 out of 4 of Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

Based on?

Quinnipiac University swing state polls.

I swear to god, if I have to say this one more time I'm going to make a stickied thread.

Polling, particularly by individual organizations and schools, done this early is unreliable. Doesn't matter if it's supporting Clinton or Trump, this is the fact.

We've yet to reach the conventions, no ticket has announced their VP, and we're still four months out. Most in-state polls are within 1-3 points for either candidate, and fluctuate quickly between organizations. This is why it's best to use groups like RealClearPolitics or 538, who factor in polls from multiple organizations.

If you want proof of that fluctuation, let's take a look at RCP right now:

Florida: Quinnipiac is the only poll, Trump +3
Ohio: NBC/Marist and Quinnipiac have a tie
Pennsylvania: NBC has Clinton +9, Quinnipiac has Trump +2
Iowa: NBC has Clinton +3, Monmouth has Trump +2

It's also important to factor in whether or not the polls are including just Clinton and Trump, or if Johnson and Stein are included. That does impact the numbers - currently giving Trump a slight edge as well in Pennsylvania and Florida, while Clinton gets a 3 point bump in Ohio.

Dates are also important - these polls were all done before and after the FBI investigation, and before Sanders support of Clinton. Because of this, it's difficult to say whether or not these had impacts on polling.

Once we hit the first week of August (often seen as the official start of the General Election), polling will become more crucial. The party tickets will be finalized and many of the summer and primary events will have officially passed.

Complaining about her nodding and clapping is literally complaining about nothing.
