Once in a while I go on a binge and surf MM and customs for a bit, and man, I just can't do Reach no matter how hard I try. Like, it seems like the game's mechanics and weapon sandbox are a perfectly bad combo of sweatlord and self punishment.

I can play Halo CE cause its old physics and wack maps are fun, and perfect 3 shots with the pistol is easy to understand even though the reticule doesn't represent what the bloom does when you hold the trigger rather than quickly tap it. Halo 2's a nostalgia glitchfest and easy going, Halo 3's mechanics have been altered from OG Halo 3 and are a bit frustrating alongside the workable, yet unbalanced sandbox.

And then there's Reach. If you're using any covenant weapon and competing against its counterpart, its automatic loss unless the other player is a potato. You want to pace your shots so bloom doesn't fuck you? Get dicked up the ass by a guy spamming across the map. Tired of the bullshit bloom and go for title update physics? Welcome to DMR fuckfest. You want to play some good old brain cell killing infection? Have fun with pro sword clashers and dead bodies infecting you.

I really want to add Reach to the roster of game modes when I get into a mood for pubstomping or brain cell death in customs, but every time I try it just leaves a sour taste in me because of its bullshit mechanics and the fact that it spawned all the bad trends that still currently plague newer titles.

Well, I'm poor and I live in a shithole that's frozen for eight months of the year, so no, I won't own one.

Only time I ever rode in one was with a client I got friendly with through a contractor working on his house and boat. He had an early days hybrid. Electric for most things, but ran on gas once the battery needed to charge. The thing had a stupid amount of acceleration to it and it always just felt weird to see the thing start moving without a sound.

Honestly though I don't think there's much that's "green" about them because they don't address the actual problem of pollution. Manufacturing batteries is a dirty process and we don't have decent containment methods for the waste of production.

A big chunk of the electric charging stations run on electricity created through burning coal or other shit. Real green, that.

And long term, EV's aren't viable because the materials to make the batteries won't be around forever. Depending on the battery type, you're looking at shit that's once it's extracted, it's gone for good. A little bit like the klondike gold rush.

A lot of our industries are going to either collapse or downsize considerably in the coming decades, which will cut into the methods and materials used to make them. Currently, I think EV's belong with the rest of current green tech trends.

They're a sham, and a good conman's get rich quick scheme playing to the market without solving any of the problems. That is unless somebody streamlines them.

I'm washed up now. I've booted up mcc once in the past year.

Hey, I've been out of sweatlord territory in Halo for years now. A couple weeks of relatively consistant playtime and you'll have some of your edge back.

It's not like you're a boxer out of their prime or a used condom or anything. You'd be surprised how fast your reflexes come back.

As some of the others have said in seriousness or jest, why drink the pain away?

You know what fuckin' sucks dude? An alcoholic father who upon reaching critical levels of drunk reverts back to the same old shit that destroyed him forty years ago. He drinks to dodge it, but once he drinks enough it's like watching a fucking broken record spin. If you think you'll get anywhere going that way, may as well just take Verb's advice and get a step ladder. My addition to the step ladder is a noose. If you're considering drinking for shit like that, may as well save yourself the trouble and time.

But earnestly? Just talk about shit to somebody that can sympathize dude. Generally my box is open if you want. Or I'll just shoot.

What's up on your end that makes you ponder taking up the drink?

Last few months have been varying degrees of hellish. But made it through. The only thing of note lately was a change in mindset. I was pondering anti-natalists and buddhist sects. I derived a toned down set of truths for myself. I find things are much easier going now.

Lost my jobs due to failing health, dole won't consider me since I have a couple hundred bucks in my bank account and no real official doctor paperwork that says "am crippled wreck", no proper place to stay before the winter comes. That's some spicy good meatballs.

Made some progress on my melting organs. Might have lyme disease. Working on trying to get docs to test me for it.

Dunno how I feel on that. If it is, I'm likely in the later stages, which can't be reversed. If it's not, I come up empty and docs figure despite barely managing to work for two hours before collapsing that it's just in my head and I don't qualify for some assistance. Tough call because I know I can't manage my job and helping family out anymore. I can only do one, barely. Boxes me into a choice I'm not much up for making that I lose at no matter what I pick.

Even if the fatigue and organ damage can't be reversed, I can keep fighting it. But some fucking support from the docs would go a long way. Just once.

Another piece finished up. It's been sitting in limbo for a couple years. Difficult to work on. My homeless buddy who OD'd. Parents didn't want her even after finding out she was dead. Remember how all of it made me feel so fucking hopeless. That it seemed like nobody gave a shit but me in the capacity that I could.

I'd rather remember her for the time shared, who she was without the drugs. Played music, wanted to always be traveling, taught me the basics of sleight of hand magic tricks for show. She was a good person.

I'm not sure if I remember you or not. Picture's familiar.

It's been a sketchy few months. I had two miniature heart attacks in the span of a month and we're finding that inflammation is spreading to tissues in my ribcage and separating the cartilege. I'm going to have a bit of a housing problem within two months or so. This week is a banger.

Front tire blew out on my car and I lost control on the ice. I ended up in a steep cattle ditch and nearly rolled the car. Banged up a little bit from the impact. Couple days after I got it out of the ditch I had to drive my niece to the hospital. Docs figured her appendix ruptured. It was a cyst, at least. But two days of driving and being awake the whole time then going back to work is fun.

You got any exit plans for where you can move?

If you want I can put some threads out and see if I can find somebody in your area you could bunk with. Low chance but worth a shot if you're wanting to get out of there quick.

Well consider me jealous at ya gettin' to meet Casp or Blocks. No, I've not met anybody. Busta could mailbox bomb me and end my misery if he wanted to though. That's probably the closest other than Nuka and Kiyo I think, Ender and Psyche. They know the general region I'm in.

I think I said it before. If I could still travel there's a bunch I wouldn't mind meeting.

So, this here is... the absolute farthest I've ever gone in my artwork in terms of how deep I sank into autopilot. Deep enough that the result is a mystery to me as I had no subject on the mind while making this. I just listened to the music and this showed up. You'd think I'd have to be tripping on something to have made this.

Gaming / Re: Halo Mega Thread

i enjoyed the first episode of the show more than i enjoyed the first video game, which is probably not the opinion you wanted to hear, but it doesn't mean that i thought it was good—it was quite dumb, in fact—but i think it's all right as long as you take it for what it is and not what you want it to be

i like how the efficacy of a UNSC weapon is completely dependent on whether MC is wielding it, where, if anyone else tries to fire the same exact weapon at an elite, it's like water off a duck's ass—MC is just such a badass that any weapon he holds gets stronger like magic, i guess. that's pretty funny

i appreciated how they used the sound effects from the games during certain parts—we even got a "wort wort wort"

chief's voice really wasn't doing it for me, because he's not supposed to sound that gruff and whispery—they should've just gotten the actual guy to do it, since he IS the voice of master chief

Spoiler
and i get how that means they'd also have to overdub his voice for when he takes his helmet off, but that's all the more reason for the master chief to never take his helmet off

that girl gave a pretty good performance, i think—seems like she really cares about the role, which is nice

storyline is whatever. people have been complaining about how unfaithful it is, but i don't really give a fuck—it's clear that they're telling their own story with this, and i'm mostly okay with that, because i think being 100% faithful is a pretty boring and largely pointless endeavor anyway

the production value is certainly the best thing the show has going for it, but i wasn't really gripped by the story and unless i start hearing some good things, i don't feel super compelled to watch the rest

Well it's kinda a given that you're not gonna like CE too much Verb. At its core it's a basic bread and butter shooter with a minimalistic story that stood out amongst other games during the time period it launched.

Honestly even if I take it for what it is, it's still like 50% hot trash. I write fanfiction and I read fanfiction. Watch movie adaptations from novels. So I'm used to having no actual wants for what I want to see in a movie or a piece of fiction. Story writers are allowed to do what they wanna do with their projects. But that doesn't protect them from a lense of criticism.

I think the main issue with me is, Halo has a metric fuck ton of lore beyond the games. The novels delve into more complex subject matter than the games ever could because they've room to do it. This is a series rich with content to work with. And you don't even have to be page by fucking page faithful to the lore here. No reason the showrunners couldn't read up on the lore and be like "Hey, I have a cool idea how we can expand on this or base the show on something like this." But they didn't. They loosely read up on the series, probably on appearances alone and a few mannerisms, and then just winged it with piss poor amatuer writing.

It's the same old problem that's plauged game adaptations to the screen for ages now. Writers and creators take creative liberties with the source material. That's not the problem. It's that their creative liberties are always fucking shit and simplistic rather than something that's unique that maybe expands on different angles with the original story or series while still having good writing.

It's really fucking lame with this series too because like you said, the production values and set pieces are great. Now if they could get some writers to save their lives that'd be neat.

So. Anybody gonna talk about Paramount's cock slap with their Halo series?

Kind of a shame because some of the prop work is awesome but the story's hot garbage.

Is it laughable or sad that to this day the best live action Halo we ever had was blomkamps Landfall short, which was only done because he got tired of waiting for greenlights and just said fuck it I'm making it?

The hospital told me it was meth. Been under an eyewash for the past two day, and I can now see again.

Have some saline or pure H2O(?) to rub it under for the next few days to continuously wash that garbage out.

Any lasting damage?
Oh, absolutely. They say the toxins of whatever it was cut with tore my cornea and underlying tissue to shreds, but particles slowly seeping behind my eye with every blink made it even worse. They were glad I came, otherwise I would have permanently lost sight in it.

Not gonna lie, significantly reduced vision is better than a completely blind eye though.

You're not suppossed to be degrading faster than I am buddy. You cut that out. You need a vacation from all that shit. You're slowly getting closer to Canada. Hopskotch closer until ya can immigrate. Minus some of the cities it's a lot calmer out here generally.

Audio psyops are routinely ineffective (see Waco).

Try tear gas and tanks instead.
Never heard of Waco until now. That was a pretty interesting read.

None of what I may suggest is particularlity nice, by the way. All of it would have to do with making the dude's life as miserable as possible without him really knowing who it was.

If he's got a vehicle, slash the tires or put water in the gas tank. Catch yourself either roaches, mice, or bedbugs and set them into his apartment room when he's out during the day. You either wait for him to realize he's infested or you make an anonymous call to the owners and complain of an infestation in parts of the apartment. They'll have to do something otherwise health and safety'll crack down on them.

If he's out during the day, just break in and fuck his speakers up. Wouldn't even have to cut cables, just dump some water in them and short them out. If he has a workplace, depending on where he works you make an anonymous call and complain about him. Light a fire under his ass.

Noise for noise right? Park your speakers at his door and blast them and wait for him to come out. You don't need to get into a fist fight with him. As soon as the door opens you mace his ass with bear spray if you can get a hold of it. Few other chemicals you can whip up quick that sting.

You don't have to be physically strong to deal with a person. Half of dealing with people like this is just using your head and tools. Like I always joke. Dude could tie me into a bow but he can't stop a truck no matter how hard he flexes.

There's a few other things you could do to smoke him out too. I don't remember them, but in general they're harmless. Shit you mix up that smells fucking awful. Hide a dead animal in his ventilation, stuff like that.

Thoughts to roll around for you at least. Probably nothing you'd want to do that would risk getting you in shit or evicted yourself, but if you want my honest thoughts, no remorse nor mercy for people that want to be assholes. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Try to get some sleep.

Can you not just knock on his door and tell him if you hear that music while trying to sleep you'll pay a visit and make him look like a pretzel?

That or escelate it. Just park all your shit right outside his door and sit there in a camping chair. Hope you're picking the most obnoxious music you can find.

If you really want to break him down just play something like Barney the dinosaur's into music on a loop. They use it in guantanimo to psychologically break people down and it apparently works like a charm.
Dude is 250 (or more) of pure muscle. I'm 120 of an admittedly sedentary lifestyle. No intimidation factor there, as I'm the one intimidated lol. I feel like I've escalated as much as I can at this point. Multiple sound ordinance calls have done nothing, letters just make the guy get fucking noisier in response.

Imagine having a fucking newborn child. I can barely sleep anyways, so this dickhead ensuring my child CAN'T, at all times of the day and night?

I could suggest a few things, but I have to keep in mind that you've got a kiddo and a wifey. They don't need you turned into a pretzel. Wouldn't matter if it was me since I don't give a shit what happens to me.

Muscle heads usually rely on the intimidation factor. For starters, if you show up and you make as neutral of a statement as possible, just ask him to tone it down cause you've got a kid, and that you don't want to have to ask again, it'll throw his guard off that you're not backing down even if he picks up that you might be afraid.

Sometimes, just that is enough because you'll have earned just an ounce of their respect for calling their bluff. But it can go other ways too. Sometimes it's the asshole that wants to fight and that's the provocation they're looking for.

I have only one bit of advice if the confrontation ever gets physical with the guy. You don't have to be a roid rager who can bench press a fucking planet to do it.

Either one hard kick to the dick to get him down, or you punch or chop as hard as you can into his throat. Horizontal chop is easier to hit. There's a risk of crushing his windpipe and suffocating him if you hit his throat too hard, but if it's a fight you're fighting for your life against a guy who's got the potential to end yours accidentally or purposfully.

Dick or throat, he'll go down almost instantly. Another weak area would be his eyes. Couple fingers in one or both and he won't be able to do much. Plexus is another good spot, but if he's a muscle head it probably won't do much good and it's difficult to hit, impossible if they've clothes on. It's the junction right between the bottom of ribcage and the lower organs. Getting hit there makes most of your torso size up and it fucking hurts. Most people fold like lawnchairs if they get hit there.

But, we don't want to go that route if we can avoid it. Fights are unpredictable. You don't want to accidentally kill somebody or be killed yourself.

Use the mind instead. There's ways you can get him to fuck off without it coming down to a fight. Gimme all you know about the dude or what you suspect about him and I'll see if I can think of something you can do.

It's really baffling wondering what Putin feels he's gaining from this.

I'm wondering if it's a push to recuperate losses. Russia stopped reporting covid deaths early on, but one of their reporting bases made a mistake. They released a report on projected mortality rates for the next year(s), and the math is all based on mortality rates of the previous year. I think they got steamrolled by covid and lost a lot of their workforce and ability to produce. One of Ukraine's biggest assets is farmland. Take Ukraine and you get both farmland and the people in it to work the farms.

Something I've earnestly been wanting to try for a few years. Making a rendition of a forerunner or promethian that's not overdesigned in 343's approach.

The truly ironic thing was that I used Didact's undersuit, and Halo 4's Spartan Forerunner armor with a dirty retexture and I thought it looked pretty fucking rad. I chopped off a watcher's head to make a support ancilla, and surprisingly it doesn't look bad although I botched colours because there's an issue with the model, but eh, this was a test.

I also feel kind of bad for the artists that worked on halo 4-5, because while everybody bitches that everything is overdesigned into visual noise, working up close with some of the ported models gives me a view of just how much fucking detail was packed in, which is really sad in a way because it probably goes under everybody's radar.

They must have worked so fucking hard making the complex textures for all of it to pretty much go to waste.

oh my god, if they actually did age up the female characters, the sheer amount of SEETHE it would produce would make me coom harder than any fanservice costume they could ever add—you just gave me a new pipe dream

as for what the next gameplay gimmick will be, i have no clue, but i do hope it's something relatively simple, but still produces a lot of emergent gameplay situations like the focus system did

less emphasis on aggressive playstyles would be nice—i like playing aggressive as much as anyone, but it felt like defensive players had to put in a lot more work to win in SFV a lot of the time

i also hope they bring back proximity normals, give backdashes some more utility, and significantly increase the number of combo routes for each character to help jazz up the gameplay—even if it means bringing one-frame links back

oh and remove throws, thanks

Have nothing constructive to say since never was into fighters and am sliding out of gaming over time.

But wouldn't aging the ladies up just attract the MILF hunters and give us a stream of content somthing like
