The Flood / Who made the AI bot of Deci
« on: March 19, 2021, 07:06:08 PM »
Anyone remember a while ago when Deci was being his usual self and someone responded by making an AI bot trained off his comments?

Have ye got the old resources (like the code or the machine learning part) for that? I want to have a tinker with it for reasons completely unrelated to here.

Closest I can find like it is the GPT3 AI stuff in Pyrhon but that looks a bit intensive when I just want to give the thing an input of source comments and generate some bullshit out of it.

I've found 5 (Sep7 included)

But I'm aware of at least another one that is older than the rest and existed before the destiny emmigrations, and another one that I think is truly dead, during the rocky period of new offsites being built up.

So we got:
Sep7
Bungleboards
Newflood
Sapphire
Several discord of random bungie offtopicer's making their own places (that I count as a single one)

The old place (LudicrousIdea or something, idk)

The dead place (Flood v2 or something, again idk)
You forgot the gay furry haven WHU

Jesus, there's another one

Fuck it, I'm not joining that one too.

I'm not certain if you are depressed out of boredom or desperation of your situation.

For the former, there's always new stuff to get into. I got into photography a few years back and it got me outside a lot, talking to people for portraits, and seeing interesting things. It distracted me well enough from my otherwise depressing outlook on life. It doesn't have to be expensive either - I started with cheap film cameras, but there's always cheap paints, diy tools for making a shelf or frame for something...

For the latter, it always can get better. Think of small improvements.

Last week I had a bit of a panic attack over studying and deadlines, and I had been neglecting chores in my flat I needed doing. Taking the day off and cleaning up the dishes, hoovering, taking out rubbish etc etc got me in a better mood as when I woke up the next day I wasn't confronted by a shitty environment to work in.

I won't suggest this is in any way similar or worse than whatever your situation is. But starting small on little bothers you feel are insignificant to deal with are often the best to start with, and when their done you can feel a bit accomplished and use the rest of the day to think about the next insignifanct task, and the next. Eventually you'll start hitting the big ones and be in a better state to tackle them.

Posts revolve around collecting user data like a shitty facebook site
what are they doing with people's data lmfao?

I dunno man, but over half the new topics are like what-ifs and how many x's d you own.
Seems like a constant ratings check and how buddy-buddy you are with the people who run the place.

I get the feeling that if it weren't originally just an offsite for a spinoff fandom group of a sci-fi game released over a decade ago, it would be a cult lol.

Like, half the old guard of them are banned and drifting around other offsites.

Just how many offsites cropped up and stayed up after bungie made the switch to destiny?

It's not a completely unique thing to happen when an official site kills off it's forum (EA/Battlefield did something similar as Sep7 was starting out, and forumers there made an enitre new site based around it.

What is unique is that so many have sprouted from the decision, and how they have lasted. Sure Sapphire, here and New Flood are fairly quiet these days, but that Battlefield offsite has come and gone in the time in between any of these places.

Sapphire is still there.

Just like communism it's had a fair share of Stalinist purges but it's there.

Posts revolve around collecting user data like a shitty facebook site, and blasting them with the usual tankie rhetoric.

I have a few accounts on there to see if it's still running (several backups because every time I talk about the place they ban one).

Like, half the old guard of them are banned and drifting around other offsites.

Small, portable, good whilst on my lap.

Noisy when hot, expensive, but plays games well.

I leave to you to decide which is which.

Stargate Universe is good too. Only 2 seasons and it got canned on a cliffhanger but... people say it has BSG vibes which you should also watch.

Mandalorian ain't in there either.

Farscape - Ben Browder from the later series of SG1 was in this as the protag. Astronaut gets sent to another part of the universe where there's a lot of australian accent aliens with a fetish for bdsm clothes. Actually quite good! Difficult to find legitimately so the high seas are your best bet here.

One person shot apparently.
So far. Wew

According to the news, she was;

- A 14 year war veteran (/in the security services?)
- A police officer (not from DC)
- A very rabid Trump supporter (so one of the insurrectionists)

Martyrdom achieved in 3...2...1...

I'mma sit back and watch.

Given how the year's gone and the last 4 have only been outdoing the last in incredulous scandals, January '21 should start by rounding it off.

Realistically though as a commoner across the Atlantic I can literally do nothing to influence what Trump will do. Good luck with that!

Yeah, today Edinburgh is cloudless but fuckin' cold.

Going up a hill around the capital means I'll get some pretty stunning views.

I'm doing fieldwork, going around parks and measuring trees.

A bit boring but at least I have an excuse to leave the house.

Your score is 26 out of 36.
Your score is equal or better than 45% of all participants.

Oof. Wish it would at least tell me which ones I did wrong, don't even need the correct answers.
Would be interesting to see what "eye-emotions" I got wrong and see if there was a pattern or just a misunderstanding of the words.

The Flood / Re: How Do You Feel About Voting For The Lesser Of Two Evils
« on: October 31, 2020, 12:35:34 PM »
Could be worse.

A majority could select a third party, but due to coalition agreements, both evils join forces and take power.

Fianna Fail and Fianna Gael lost to Sinn Fein in Ireland, but look who's in power now. Can you imagine a Trump/Biden Presidency?

Urgh. Fortunately your two party system means they vehemently hate each other and can't do that, so there's a silver lining.

The Flood / Sean Connery is fucking dead
« on: October 31, 2020, 08:42:44 AM »
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54761824

Quote
Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, his family has said.
Sir Sean died peacefully in his sleep, while in the Bahamas, having been "unwell for some time", his son said.

Jason Connery said his father "had many of his family who could be in the Bahamas around him" when he died overnight in Nassau.

He said: "We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time.

"A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."

I feel like the Presidential Elections would've gone just about as smoothly as they are now, if that's a consideration.

Would've had a lot more money by not being furloughed, but wouldn't have had time to apply for uni and wouldn't be in Scotland rn.

To clarify, I didn't feel strongly about many questions and a few that conflicted with how I think at the time verus what I have demonstrably done in a situation.

The Flood / Re: do you like the area you live in?

Edinburgh is a nice change from Cardiff, but since I moved during lockdown I haven't really had a proper chance to experience it as I normally would.

I have a nice flat and there's shops nearby at least.

The Flood / Re: Where do you see yourself in five years?
« on: October 07, 2020, 06:21:49 PM »
Preferably off this fucking rock they call a "Kingdom". 15 years is enough, and I'm coming up to that next year after I graduate.

Scotland and Wales are the most bearable of them for the time being, but come post Brexit I want to be living either back in Ireland or mainland Europe doing something with my degree(s) and my girlfriend.

The Flood / Re: Activity here is really weird
« on: October 07, 2020, 06:13:59 PM »
I like to think that everyone who isn't active just got busy with their lives positively.

Or at least, the saner stable ones.

Flee streams (and occasionally pops in), MetaCog went to uni (and America?), Ender protests civil rights, Naru is astrophysic'ing, Death is/was missioning... these are just the ones I remember, but I wonder what a lot of us are doing.

Just some late night thoughts

One case detected in my brother's school.

This is a relatively small school in the middle of nowhere. I can only imagine what city school are going though.

Any predictions when things might go to 'normal'? April 2021? Summer of 2021?
Solid 2022.

Just long enough for the 'normal' to be total economic collapse, and rioting across Western Europe.
