The Flood / Re: Hobbies you wished you pursuited more

Photography.

The problem is film is expesive for the cameras I enjoy so I don't get to shoot as often as I want, and I don't get the same fun out of a digital camera.

If I worked a better job I'd have more money, but then I woudn't have the time to do it, so... Catch 22.

The Flood / Re: Old tech you still use and why?
« on: November 09, 2023, 07:01:40 PM »
Previous gen phones don't count, but my phone is a Samsung S8. That's like 6 generations ago.

Last year I bought a mirrorless camera, but before that my most modern camera I had was from 1982. Even now I use old adapted lenses on the mirrorless, the earliest is from 1964. I also have a few film cameras I use dating from 1958 to the mid 70's.

Are wired headphones 'old tech' now? I have a few pairs I use because Bluetooth drains batteries and I hate the idea of tiny wireless earbuds I can lose or forget to charge.

I watch youtube on my PS4 using a plasma TV I got for free. Y'know the type, a 'flatscreen' that is still using glass as the screen and was 'flat' because it was thinner than the previous Electron-Tube Boxy television sets. The height of technology in 2005...

The Flood / The last vestige of Bungie is going
« on: October 23, 2023, 11:48:04 AM »
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/263362964?sort=0&page=0

Groups are getting shut down this month. From Duards himself;

Quote
Within the past six months, out of the 5.1-million Groups that have been created, only 65 were active with at least one post in them. Breaking that down further, only 16 were active in the past month, 10 of those had over 10 posts in them, and only 3 broke over 100 posts.

This decision did not come lightly, and we’ve been postponing it for several years. But with our website’s future hosting multiple IPs, we must upgrade and begin the process of shutting down older features that no longer see usage.

So if for some godforsaken reason you like hoarding and backing up conversations, now might be a good time...

The Flood / Re: Sony Xperia phones
« on: September 12, 2023, 03:39:04 PM »
Never actually owned a Sony phone, but my partner has lent me one to put my UK SIM in since swapping countries.

It's a really old model from 2014 , an Experia M4/E2303.

It's not half bad for a phone from that time considering it's that time of Samsung-Apple patenting every fucking design feature and ever other brand having to make do.

It does suffer from sort of CPU overheating but I'm thinking it's due to age since the battery life is also terrible on this after nearly 10 years.

I just miss basic things on phones like replaceable batteries, headphone jack, and not everything being coated in easily smashable glass. My mobiles have never been the latest, and I keep my Samsung S8 chugging purely for the headphone jack.

Until this thread I didn't know Halo Infinite existed - didn't know it had a free multiplayer section either.

I'll check it out, I wonder if it will be like that Halo Dewrito Online thing that was popular before MCC.

Serious / Re: What should be done about the rising cost of housing?
« on: August 16, 2023, 05:45:23 PM »
- Heavy taxes on Holiday homes, 2nd± Homes, and whatever AirBnB's are.
- Heavy Tax on property investors and multi national rental agencies which goes directly into council housing construction programs.
- Council taxes on the wealthier estates go to council property buybacks of places given out in the 70's and 80's (for countries that sold all the council housing).
- Council house construction mandated in every district or suburb. Reduce the ghettofication, stratification of class housing, and stigma of living in a council estate.
- Actual fucking livable council housing. Alterlaa in Vienna is fucking neat and it's better than most private homes in the area.
- Rent control and financial assistance for the poorest and/or minorities and/or disabled who have had a harder time getting a place.
- Abolish 'student housing' apartments. They're intentionally shit and then overcharge rent for cramped conditions when inevitably no student will bother with them.
- Landlord accountability by having them live in the same region as the rental property, contact information and their properties on public record, and government housing advice for renter's rights
- Tax the rich, offer mortgage support for first time buyers and particularly those who have only rented in their family.
- Restrict or outright ban foreign investments into housing markets unless they can prove they will also use 25% of profits to build more affordable properties in the area.
- Landlords who fail to pay mortgages on 2nd homes will have the property repossessed into the respective bank's "rental division", allowing the renter to continue living there at a negotiated rent rate, or even to take on the mortgage themselves. Alternative is government buyback programs mentioned above.
- Landlord purge day, (date to be determined), landlords are rounded up and...

Bagel

Because it's harder for me to get poppy bagels here than a genuine Belgian waffle with sugar crystals the size of teeth.

Honestly I kind of wish Cheat would just pull the plug. The idea of a meta community like this is nice but even back when it was “active” it feels way too small and isolating of a community.

Maybe it’s just because I’m so used to 4chan levels of traffic and my ADHD brain can’t handle the snail pace but isn’t the whole point of the internet constant and fast information?

Nah, the internet is for whatever the hell you want it to be.

For example, this http://www.9000.org/ has been up since 1995 and hasn't been touched since 2007. I hope it never dies.

Besides, if you constant streams of consciousness, there's Discord. I think the officially unofficial one that got created for here still exists, and there's plenty of other splinter-groups. I'm sure there's even a few other offsite website forums banging around (not the Tankie one though, that one is a borderline cult).

Sure, someone could even make a Mastodon instance like '@whoever.sep7agon' and get the server blacklisted from the global list when 2ndClass posts military secrets which is the fashion nowadays.

 :P

Pretty gud.

Gaming / Re: Unpopular (Widely Disliked) Games You Love

Reach is my favourite Halo.

Fallout 3 is hated now? Lol ok then add it to the list. I also love Fallout 4, and particularly the settlement system which some seem to despise.

Sure, it's no New Vegas, but they all have their quirks and gems.

Brink was also the shit but it totally flopped on release. A shame, because a lot of other TF2 copies like Overwatch and Apex took the lion's share a few years later but with much less depth to it all.

I'll get properly paid to sit in my pajamas looking at satellite images.

Closest I've gotten was buying a Fallout 4 PipBoy Edition from Psy a few years ago.

That and the few of you living *Yn Nghymru* (Psy, Ender, Big Boss iirc?) that were nearby.

Now I live waaaaay too far out of any Sep7'ers range to meet any.

Doesn't it count as a vegetable if it has no brain activity though? Could eat my weight in dead chickens and get all the vegetables I need.

By that logic Joe Rogan would be a 5-a-day super food.

The Flood / Re: What have you been reading lately?
« on: January 05, 2022, 10:39:11 AM »
A 1974 edition of Penguin Political Leaders; Mao Tse Tsung. It's dry and boring.

Flashman and the Tiger. A lot more interesting, buuut a lot more about saving Austrian Emperors and railing noble broads than I would want in a book.

Next one is gonna be The Ascent of Rum Doodle, it's supposed to be good but I bought my copy because it had a nice fictional map on it.

Yeah they're busy and I haven't seen any horse-ness.

Granted they also have these massive megathreads like a rolling Discord, and they have a very low replacement rate for new users.

At some point, they will go too, not that I wish it on there or here.
Frankly I'm just shocked this place still lives on after what 7 or 8 years now, especially since this was such a niche community to begin with.
agreed

but then again, the mlp off-site started before us and is still very active, while not even trying to get new members
Holy shit bronies are still trending?
lol I think they stopped branding as an “mlp group” a long time ago, I just think it’s funny that’s how it started

There hasn't been a lockdown where I live since the first one ended in 2020.

Insane

I've moved in the peak of 2 lockdowns, and have been through 5/6 across 3 countries since it began.

The last one was literally announced last week.

It's funny because as soon as a new thread is posted people will still reply so everyone remaining is just lurking waiting for someone else to post something.

Maybe we're all bored out of our gourds.

We've banned all the extremes, drama died of old age, and no one cares enough to question Verb's stances on anything or Secondclasses' somehow ever-spiralling descent.

The time has passed for new folk to arrive because all of the niches and cliques within have amalgamated into the entire forum.

We're all waiting for the revival that'll never happen, and I say that with some sadness considering I don't feel like I really 'know' anyone here.
