The Flood / STARS WAR: Most Unrecognized Characters
« on: June 15, 2016, 08:53:07 PM »
So, many of you know of the popular characters of Stars War. You know, like Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader. But there are many unsung heroes and villains too. How many have you heard of the infamous Blue Stars, who's presence spread terror through the ranks of Rebel soldiers. What about Head Man, known to wander the desert with sword and shield in hand. There's also the Imperial Gunner, who used a calculator to fire the Death Star's Superlaser, destroying Alderaan. These are but a few who have gone unrecognized for far too long and deserve more recognition. Without these truly classic characters, the whole series would have ended differently. Hopefully you will help to spread the word of these characters. Thank you for your consideration.

Is there a reason the video starts out by glorifying the deaths of a lot of soldiers due to shitty battlefield tactics?

First of all that was a victory for Britain, who was led by the Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill. Secondly, those tactics were used for a reason. Muskets are highly inaccurate since they are smooth bore. To combat this, armies would form in lines, which allow more chances for bullets to hit the opposing side.

Forming lines just allows more of them to be killed. When everyone is side by side, any enemy is almost guaranteed to hit somebody, even with the inaccuracy of muskets. Even if you don't hit the guy you are aiming for, you'll likely hit one of the people next to him. This is exactly how the America won the Revolutionary War.

I was stating why they used those tactics. And yes, by the time of the American Revolution, they were outdated tactics. They were even more outdated by the time of the Civil War, in which rifles were commonplace.

I guess if you want to live in Switzerland, you have to learn German, French, Italian, and Rumantsch. This includes every dialect  of those languages in Switzerland.

Edit: Never mind, he wasn't being serious. Still, if anyone wants to argue the same point as Deci, my point still stands.

Dawn of War 3 will be better.
We can only hope

I'm still on the fence about it but it's early days.

It kind of looks like a mobile game honestly, but it's something I'd still play.
Yeah the graphics are a little... eh but I can live with them being sub-par.

It's the three races thing that worries me.

I doubt they are gonna do proper expansions like WA/DC/SS and go more along the lines of 'here have a new race pack!' and that will break my blood-pump.

What?! Only three races? I didn't know that. Hopefully they don't adopt the same policy as Dawn of War Two. I will be livid if Imperial Guard is not included.

Spoiler
Also Death Korps of Krieg or bust. I don't want to see the generic guard uniform again.
Yeah, Orks Eldar and Spehss Mehrens

DKOK best IG

Wow, no Chaos Space Marines or Necrons? At least they have the Eldar, but even they look generic so far.

That first scene is awesome, and so was the Duke of Marlborough.

It's because of Winona Ryder, isn't it?
I'd be lying if I said that wasn't a big part of it, but this isn't something like Mr Deeds where I'm only watching because of her. I love Stephen King, Twin Peaks, mysteries, and the 80s aesthetic, and this show is combining the auras of all that. I could easily see myself being interested in the show even if they had like, Frances McDormand as the main character.

By the way, The Crucible is a great movie.
Oh my god, YES. That movie was part of what started my Winona obsession when I saw it in the 9th grade. She's absolutely fantastic there, and plays one of the best literary characters ever. Beyond her role in the movie, though, it's just so good. Reverend Hale is probably the second best character; the way he changes and dynamically switches his goal from "defeating Satan" to just saving lives is engrossing as hell.

Don't worry about the first part, it was just a joke. And yes, the characters were so well written. Reverend Hale is my favorite character.
He's fantastic, I love how at first you think he's going to be the villainous "inquisitor" figure, but he turns out to be one of the most moral and compassionate characters in the whole film. I adore the "God damns a liar less than he that throws his life away for pride" line. He's just trying to save lives, even if it means lying and confessing to witchcraft.

This is exactly why I like him the most, and I wish John Proctor had listened to him.

When everything is a religion, nothing is a religion.

Quote
So one critique of these accusations is that “religion” is a broad enough category that anything can be mapped on to it:

Does it have well-known figures? Then they’re “gurus” and it’s a religion.

Are there books about it? Then those are “scriptures” and it’s a religion.

Does it recommend doing anything regularly? Then those are “rituals” and it’s a religion.

How about just doing anything at all? Then that’s a “commandment” and it’s a religion.

Does it say something is bad? Then that’s “sin” and it’s a religion.

Does it hope to improve the world, or worry about the world getting worse? That’s an “eschatology” and it’s a religion.

Do you disagree with it? Then since you’ve already determined all the evidence is against it, people must believe it on “faith” and it’s a religion.

Basically this. Just because there is some form of doctrine (in regards to science I'd say the Scientific Method) does not render it religion.

1675
I'm one of the least religious people I know, and I'm agnostic and an empiricist. Not everyone thinks of religion all the time, nor should they. Also, this is Serious.
