Didn't even bother checking the date today. Saw a flag at half-staff today and thought "huh, that's weird". Now it makes sense

japanese go to hell. pearl harbor worst day in america
People that died in Pearl Harbor - 3000
People that died in the Atomic bombings - 130,000
Japanese attacked America unprovoked and without any warning. We gave Japan plenty of warnings and let people know ahead of time. A land invasion would have dwarfed that of D-Day and at the end, would have left millions of Japanese citizens dead. It's well documented that on individual islands, the Japanese fought to the last man and at all costs, civilians included; there have been times they committed mass suicide
The war was going to end anyway with Russia and Britain about to invade Japan.

We didn't even need to invade Japan, they would have surrendered. Also Japan started the war with the United States because it was their only choice to continue building their country. The U.S cut off Japan's oil supply and Japan had no natural oil fields. They had no choice but to start a war for resources.
U.S cut off oil to Japan because the Japanese invasions of China, notably Manchuria, and the notorious "Rape of Nanking" where Imperial soldiers not only killed Chinese soldiers, but committed horrendous acts to women and children

Even before the embargo and invasions, detailed predictions were made by Gen. Mitchell that Japan was going to attack Pearl Harbor on a Sunday

The war would have not ended with an invasion. It would have, but after every single man, women, child died from suicide or fighting against allied forces. Millions would have died
So you're saying every citizen in Japan would commit suicide from an Allied invasion.

Even though that's exactly what we did when we occupied Japan which lasted for 7 years.

Yet there are still Japanese citizens.
The Japanese citizens were being manipulated and controlled just like North Koreans citizens are today. While the Tojo and the military were the ones pulling the strings, they utilized the Emperor as a puppet and sent everything that happened through him and to the public. If he told the citizens to fight, they would have fought; if he told the citizens to stand down, they would stand down. The eradication of Japanese military control over the government and the emperor allowed the people to finally see reason and realized they were being played. Because of that, they were grateful to us for saving them and welcomed us. We gave them technology and prosperity and they embraced it; very reason they are such a successful country today. If these Middle-Eastern countries were to follow the same path then things would be different
And there's still no way to justify the Nukes. The U.S. wanted to show off their new weapons and effectively started a new war by using them. Japan was going to surrender either way.

Umm...

Diplomatically, didn't we essentially slap them in the face beforehand for their Imperialism and barbarism in war? Didn't the Navy spot warning signs prior as well?
Yup, Navy most likely knew it was going to happen.

How can you say they aren't worth it if you only tried to do it once.

You must have the kind of contacts with holes in them that can be worn for months.

If you did that with regular contacts you'd be blind by now.

Good thing this person didn't commit suicide because someone was bullying her.

The Flood / Thousands gather to honor Tugce Albayrak in Germany
« on: December 07, 2014, 03:36:30 PM »
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/tugce-albayrak-germany-pays-tribute-to-student-killed-for-helping-harassed-women-9892851.html

Quote
Thousands of people have joined silent vigils across Germany to pay tribute to a student who was beaten to death after stopping a group of men harassing two women.

Tugce Albayrak, 22, intervened when she heard the women screaming for help in a restaurant toilet in the city of Offenbach on 15 November

But later, in the car park, she was brutally attacked with a bat by one of the men and left with critical head injuries, the Suddeutsche Zeitung reported.

Her parents made the decision to switch off her life support on Friday after doctors told them she would never regain consciousness and declared her brain dead. It was her 23rd birthday.

Tugce, who was of Turkish descent, is being hailed as a hero across Germany, with thousands of people joining candlelit vigils in her honour outside the restaurant where she confronted the attackers and around the country.

Many held signs in German saying “Danke (thank you) Tugce”, while others wore T-shirts in Turkish that said “Seni seviyoruz” – “we love you”.

A petition signed by more than 50,000 people called for the German President, Joachim Gauck, to posthumously award her the national order of merit.

Saying he would consider the honour, the President wrote a letter of condolence to Tugce’s family.

Calling her a role model for the nation, Mr Gauck said: “Like countless citizens, I am shocked and appalled by this terrible act. Tugce has earned gratitude and respect from us all.

“She will always remain a role model to us, our entire country mourns with you.

“Where other people looked the other way, Tugce showed exemplary courage and moral fortitude.”

Her suspected attacker, aged 18, is being held in custody.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend a rally paying tribute to Tugce planned in Berlin at 1pm on Sunday

The Flood / Re: What personality type do you fall into?
« on: December 07, 2014, 02:20:32 PM »

INFJ
The INFJ personality type is very rare, making up less than one percent of the population, but they nonetheless leave their mark on the world. As Diplomats (NF), they have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is the accompanying Judging (J) trait – INFJs are not idle dreamers, but people capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting positive impact

INFJs indeed share a very unique combination of traits: though soft-spoken, they have very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea they believe in. They are decisive and strong-willed, but will rarely use that energy for personal gain – INFJs will act with creativity, imagination, conviction and sensitivity not to create advantage, but to create balance. Egalitarianism and karma are very attractive ideas to INFJs, and they tend to believe that nothing would help the world so much as using love and compassion to soften the hearts of tyrants

INFJs find it easy to make connections with others, and have a talent for warm, sensitive language, speaking in human terms, rather than with pure logic and fact. It makes sense that their friends and colleagues will come to think of them as quiet Extroverted types, but they would all do well to remember that INFJs need time alone to decompress and recharge, and to not become too alarmed when they suddenly withdraw. INFJs take great care of other’s feelings, and they expect the favor to be returned – sometimes that means giving them the space they need for a few days
