Not sure about that.. Seen some sites I can get nice prescription sunglasses for less than $100.. But contact lenses.. don't they run anywhere from $20+ more and you have to buy several throughout the year?
Depends on the contacts I use monthly contacts which means I need to replace them every month. I bought enough for 6 months, so 6 for each eye. That was about $150, you'll also have to schedule an appointment which will cost money. There are other kinds of contacts such as daily disposable contacts but in the long run they usually cost the same.

No it falls back to it being plural and singular. An event in your example is singular so you use was.
