What are the cons? I have a romanticized view of them due to only visiting certain ones like Tokyo and New York City, but loving it while I'm there. Could be a similar situation to my hometown: Fun to visit, not to live in.

because of my autism preventing me from playing games out of sequential order regardless of story + the fact that i have a hardline policy against MMOs means that i will literally never play FF14, but the reception of this expansion has me feeling some big-time FOMO right about now

Its a long grind to Shadowbringers. Base game can be dull but has its moments, Natsuko leads Heavensward and it shows, Stormblood is a lull but has arguably the games best villain and Shadowbringers shows us that this is the only team at Sqeenix capable of making a good Final Fantasy anymore. If you decide to go through the FFs in order youll likely understand why. With all that said its not like HW and ShB arent good outside of FF, you could make standalone games out of them.

Sure did but anime has a very significant adult following as well and quite clearly targets older audiences too with visible blood, adult themes, sexual stuff and so on. Obviously you can't put them all in the same category but cartoons like SpongeBob are obviously not meant for the same audience as many animes.
I get it and it was a hurdle for me back in the day but i dont think its mutually exclusive If you cant get over the cultural difference youll never tolerate the majority of anime
