Looks like there are going to be a few surprises in Star War Battlefront if you're expecting a re-skinned Battlefield. There are no classes or squads - two things you sort of take as a given in most DICE shooters. Well, any multiplayer shooter full stop.

The info's mentioned in the latest issue of OXM where design director Niklas Fegraeus says players are able to “freely” pick their weapons and gear, rather than select pre-made classes. You can instead unlock and use whatever you want using XP, so it sounds like you won't be tied to set archetypes.

Even more interesting is the move away from squads, Battlefield's familiar five man groupings. Instead of that there's a new 'Partners' feature that links two players together so that they can see each other on their HUDS and spawn on each other to save time getting around. They'll also be able to share whatever they've unlocked, so if you're teamed with a higher level partner, or someone who's bought a different loadout with their XP, then you can have access to a different set of toys.

There's a lot of intriguing ideas here (we've already heard about how Star Wars Battlefront won't have iron sight aiming). The lack of classes and the new unlock system sounds like it'll undoubtedly need a little tweaking and balancing along the way, but that with the partner system could make a huge change to the traditional online shooter template. You'll find all our Star Wars Battlefront multiplayer info here and you can read more about the game in OXM's cover story, which is out Friday the 8th of May. Download it here or subscribe for future issues

Fallout 4 is finally happening, judging by the imbroglio surrounding an alleged cinematic trailer. You may have seen reports about an artist's LinkedIn profile, which mentioned his work on the trailer. But it's easy to post something about an undisclosed project on LinkedIn - it's less easy to get a promotional firm to angrily confirm that it signed an NDA about it.

That's apparently what happened, as Destructoid reports that Mirada Studios, the promotional studio which the artist linked to the Fallout 4 trailer, has cited a breach of a non-disclosure agreement and demanded the site remove its coverage of the artist's profile. Destructoid says it never signed an NDA about this stuff, but since an NDA apparently exists, so does Mirada's work with Bethesda.

ADVERTISING

And yes, confirming a project's existence to outside parties is pretty much the exact opposite of what an NDA is supposed to do. Whoops!

The artist's LinkedIn profile noted that he worked on the Fallout 4 cinematic trailer from December 2014 to March 2015. Though that doesn't mean work on the trailer itself was finished by then, that would line up nicely with Bethesda's planned E3 press conference in June, leaving plenty of time for everyone involved to sign off on it.

That's just speculation, of course - Bethesda could choose not to headline its first-ever E3 showcase with one of its most beloved video game franchises. It could also reboot Doom as a city-building mobile game, which, at this point, seems about as likely as not seeing the next Fallout at E3 2015.

Quote
In April we started seeing invites for Bethesda's first dedicated E3 showcase on June 14 being sent out, which seemed to include its own hint at a big Fallout 4 reveal.

The invite showed a theatre filled with seats holding place cards of famous characters from the developer's past but seemed to be missing any pip boy references.

The fact that there was one place card set up in the front row with a question mark on it seemed to suggest that this was one big reveal Bethesda were planning to keep under wraps.

Before that came the changes to the Fallout website, where Bethesda updated the banner with an image of people lining up to enter a Vault.

And now new Easter Eggs have been spotted in MachineGames' standalone prequel, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood.

Nuka-Cola makes an appearance as an option on an in-game soft drinks dispenser, alongside another option called Supersaft that boasts a similar logo to Pip-Boy.

Bethesda's E3 listing meanwhile includes a large list of potential titles being announced, described as Action, Free-to-Play, Publication and Role-playing.

What's surprising here is that the Role-Playing game has been listed for the PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

That would mean it would reference a long-in-development Fallout title launching on all platforms, something that would manage to please fans across the gaming spectrum.

http://www.gamesradar.com/mass-effect-4-survey-news-rumor/
Quote
It takes place in the Helius Cluster
Awestruck confusion: Toto we're not in the Milky Way anymore.

The survey indicates that game will take place in a cluster of hundreds of solar systems, well beyond humanity's usual territory. It's the cosmic Wild West, filled with "cut-throat outlaws and warring alien races".

We're also "far removed by time and space" from Commander Shepard's actions - presumably meaning this game takes place before you destroyed/integrated/did bad Illusive Man things to the universe (or so far after them that no one ever mentions them anymore because it's all a bit old hat).

Bioware's been pretty tight-lipped about the details of its new Mass Effect game, but a Reddit user purports to have completed an official survey for the game that reveals some juicy new details about our upcoming return to the perilous vault of space.

There's a precis of all the major points in the gallery above but, in short, it appears to be taking a similar structure to its predecessors, but with more opportunity for player choice and exploration along the way - even pushing hesitantly into strategy game territory along the way.

My favourite tidbit so far is the casting of a player-character whose mission is not purely militaristic. For me, Bioware's always at its most interesting when it tries to replicate some real political intrigue (see: the conversational machinations of visiting The Winter Palace in Dragon Age: Inquisition), so a game that allows for an emphasis on chatting over blasting sounds just dandy.

Of course, the problem with getting excited is that none of this might be, you know, real. While that's a distinct possibility, I'd point to Bioware's own track record with surveys as a reason to be cheerful. Back in 2012, a similar story flew around about Inquisition, and many of the details revealed turned out to be bang-on. Add to that the fact that Mass Effect is presumably a little further on in development, and I'm cautiously hopeful that what we're seeing here is at least Bioware's intent, if not the final version of the game.

Gaming / Reasons why Battlefront will hurt us (please don't)
« on: April 24, 2015, 06:42:33 PM »
Here's my reasons why this is going to hurt a lot of Battlefront players:

1. And this is probably the most pissed off one (including me), no clone wars era. The Clone Wars era in my opinion is the best I had ever played, it's always fun to play as a droid and start kicking the living shit out of clones. When they took that out of the game, I got really fucking pissed off. Why? To make more money? Fuck that, DICE you have done fucked it up.

2. Classes. Yep, there are not classes in Battlefront. You know what is in it? The same reason why Battlefield and Call Of Duty is shit, turing it into a noob game. You heard me, why would they take out the class system? because Battlefront was fun to play, it's one of my favorite games to play even online. With the Classes gone, this will mean that the unique thing about Battlefront will turn into a fucking shit, DICE is marketing kids and new comers who don't know shit about battlefront and will think it's one of the best games ever. If you think about it, it makes sense.

3. No space battles. I'm sure everyone heard about this so i'm not gonna go into detail on this.

4. DLC. Think about it, No Clone War, No Space Battle, No Story, combine that and you get a profit. And speaking of Story.

5. NO CAMPAING, what the fuck DICE, i played Battlefront for not just multiplayer, but story as well. You think this is TitanFall? No, so not only you got rid of the clone wars era, but you got rid of fucking story mode, lame lame lame lame lame fucking lame.

Is there good things about this game, sure.
+Graphics
+Millennium Falcon
+Galactic era (my second favorite era)

Is this enough, to me, it's a mix feeling, at first I hated this news, but in the other side my Star Wars nostalgic keeps telling me to play this, i'll rent it but that's it, DICE and EA will not get my money.
