I'm pretty sure people who say "religion of peace" mean that it is A religion of peace, not THE religion of peace.

The latter would be even more ridiculous.
It's called sarcasm. I can't recall anytime when I heard someone use "the religion of peace" that they were referring to any religion other than Islam.

Yeah, all because the Persians wouldn't give them oil. Persia would've been a very useful asset for containing the Soviet Union too.

Serious / Re: The electoral college. Why?
« on: November 09, 2015, 01:19:04 PM »
I'm torn on the college. On one hand it is a hinderance, but on the other hand it can prevent people like Trump from coming to power.
The electoral college is basically how Dubya was able to win in 2000 despite Gore receiving the majority of the popular vote. If anything, the college would be what gets Dump into the Oval Office. What is there to be on the fence about?

This is what happens when you insist on staying tangled up in a region that worships a pedophile. Why the fuck do we still even have all the dozens of military bases in the Middle East anyway? America is becoming self-sufficient in oil, there's no need to continue funding military activities in this toxic cesspit. Maybe if the US military packed up and left the Middle East altogether, then perhaps the Persians and Wahhabists would all kill each other and the world would finally be rid of two cancers. Just my thoughts.

When do you think the military will finally abandon the middle east, if ever? Do you think the US should continue giving funds to Arab countries and keep a military presence in the region, or should the military pack up and leave the middle east to its own devices?

I'm trying to imagine what modern colonialism involving the major European powers would look like...and honestly, it's looking good for modern Africa.
More doctors and hospitals, actual jobs, better infrastructure, human rights and civil liberties...

It would require a complete redraw of the African map
What do you think the map of Africa would look like if it wasn't colonized?

I was just asking a question hoping to be educated on the subject as to why.

No. That's one of the reasons why it's so fucked up.
Yeah, I hear that's one of the main reasons Africa is currently in the state it is in. How did colonialism screw Africa up so badly anyway?

They're getting old and the labor pool is shrinking because they're all educated.
I always thought education had something to do with population decline. But what exactly is the correlation between education and birthrate?

>''But that Sweden would use its own agents on the internet to spread ''half truths'' is according to the defence minister Peter Hultqvist ''completely out of the question'', reports Aftonbladet. The defence minister instead refers to the swedish etablishment as the source of truth.''
That's too bad. I always thought the West should do something to counter the russian 30 ruble army (AKA putins internet fuckboys) on the internet in some way, possibly through a counter troll program. Although to be fair, Russia is not the only country to pull this shit. Pretty much every state has its own network of misinformation trolls, Hasbara being a prominent example.

Also, couldn't the west simply just cut off internet access to Russia so as to silence the Kremlinbots?

Oh cool. American soldiers get to risk their lives not defending other Americans, but for a few sandfucks in Iraq. Awesome.
They're protecting American investments and interests. That's more or less the purpose of the army of a modern world power.
Also, the crippling of terror cells in the middle east proactively protects US citizens.
>still thinking ISIS is a threat to us

Anyway, what are these interests America has in Syria and Iraq?

I'm surprised the US isn't listed due to all the shooting we have.
Translated from the Belgian / European travel advice guidelines on the US:

"While the US is a safe country where tourists are not a specific target of criminality, the crime rates and violence in the larger cities is higher than in Europe. Due to the widespread ownership of firearms, crimes can be very violent in nature. Travelers are therefore recommended to remain calm in situations of conflict and not to antagonize or escalate dangerous situations with potential violent responses."

They also make note of the prevalent fraud with credit cards and bank information, the extremely high costs of health care and the need to stay cautious and police around police.
Meh still safer than any place in Russia.

Lol I haven't even been paying attention to Halo 5. I've only seen a few videos of it and it looks EXACTLY like Halol 4. Lmao this game is inevitably going to crash and burn just like before. It probably wouldn't be so painful for me if they weren't still calling it Halo.

I don't want 343 to milk the series dry.
Well that's exactly what they're doing. Halo is a cashcow now and milking it dry is the only thing Microsoft intends to do with the franchise.

Also doesn't this belong in gaming?

How is CE's story god tier? The story isn't very good. Seriously.
Remove the nostalgia goggles, people.
And how is Halo 4's story any good? Because it isn't. I can barely remember a single thing about it.
Get out from under the desk please.
Halo 4 had one of the best stories.

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson – the man currently leading at least one poll in the crucial state of Iowa – has said he would like to see abortion outlawed in the United States. He said he would not make exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

Meh. He's black so it doesn't matter. The GOP would never nominate someone who isn't white, especially if that person is black. Not sure why Carson is running as Republican in the first place.

Not the least bit surprising. His popularity and support is inevitably going to begin tapering off as the elections get closer and closer. It might be all fun and games during the first few months for a circus clown like Trump but I think most Americans tend to take voting more seriously as November comes around.

He's not towing the party line anyway so it's not like he'll even be getting nominated. Don't know why people are getting so worked up about him.

I never even mentioned Halo 4. It has nothing to do with what I said.
I know, I only brought it up because I often see you defending Halo 4 a lot so I assumed it was your favorite.

Quote
CE objectively has a very weak, barebones, run of the mill story. It has an even weaker story than Halo 3 does.
Nostalgia is literally the only reason it gets listed so high up.
I have to agree to some extent. Halo CE's story was rather lackluster and cliché, even I'll admit that I probably listed it high up on Campaign/Story because of nostalgia. Nonetheless I still enjoyed the story, especially Truth and Reconciliation and 343 Guilty Spark in particular.

But to answer your question.
Halo 4 has a story that has more depth than a puddle.
Character development.
A consistent plot from start to finish.
Characters aren't shitty walking clichés
Eh, I suppose it had depth to some degree.
I assume you're mostly referring to Chief's development. While I agree seeing him talk more and actually open up is a good thing, I just didn't like that for some reason. Maybe I'm just so used to Chief being silent and just shooting while Cortana does most of the talking.
I agree the plot was consistent but I found it to be rather unmemorable and not making much sense at all.
I disagree completely, I thought literally every character in the campaign was a generic cliché.
