Is that why he made me an atheist
Yes, so you could live your life on the edge and do what you want.
But I didn't want to be one

I mean I'm mostly comfortable with it now but it's not something I would have chosen.

There is no feeling as devastating and mind-warpingly awful as realizing there is no god.

Seriously, as someone who grew up devout, was devout until that time, I was crushed. I cried every day for a week. The implications were driving me insane.

I did not choose it. You don't choose to believe, or to disbelieve.

If there is a god, there is nothing he could have done to hurt me more.
So, you acknowledge the possibility of a god, you want to believe in god, but you say you realize there is no god. I'm confused. How do you not get to choose?

Humans have been wicked since our existence.  The crusades, wars since forever, millions of women are raped in 3rd world countries every year, the list goes on.
Yes, and God got tired of their shit and did stuff about it to make a message to stop. Obviously, not everyone got the message, but some did.

I think it's absolutely disgusting you find nothing wrong with innocent infants because they had a skeptical leader.  They had no choice or say in where they were born.  It'd be no different than killing all kids in america because of a choice obama made.

I'm gonna follow Sexy's advice and remove myself from this spectacle now.
>Infants
>First-born
Typically not the case, but might've happened. Not just skeptical, but borderline sadistic really. Again, I answered this about 3 times now I explaining it further, but you seemed to have wanted to jump on the gang bang here.

Feel free.

Except I do, because I was subjected to this crap for like 5 years.
Well, clearly whoever subjected you to it did a shit job of explaining things.

To draw a parallel, Ra's Al Ghul wanted Gotham gone because of how corrupt it was disregarding the good people within it. So, you're saying that the death of innocents don't count because they're casualties?
The good people were personally told by God's angels to leave the city. You're making casualties up where there are none.

Quote
Again, innocents don't count just because they're casualties? I seriously doubt Noah was the only good person living at the time.
Sorry that things were so shit only 1 guy and his family were considered good. It says there aren't casualties of innocents, so unless you want to find a better point than, "but there could have been innocents" this isn't going anywhere.

So, the sins of the father are the sins of the son? That is equal to me finding a murderer and killing his kid in front of him to get him to stop killing.

>Pharaoh doesn't give a shit.

That's a pretty broad generalization to make for let alone one city

Judges 11:30-40 Jephthah killed his young daughter (his only child) by burning her alive as a burnt sacrifice to the lord for he commanded it.
Fun fact, the Lord did not command it himself. The dude said if God helped him triumph over the Ammonites in battle he would sacrifice whatever came out of the door of his house when he arrived(immediately we should realize this guy is a bit of a dumbass). He won battles, came home, his daughter came out the door, "oh shit, I fucked up", daughter goes out into hills with friends for 2 months, is sacrificed. This is literally a myth, it explains how the tradition of young women going out to the wilds for 4 days once a year came to be. Please note how God didn't say anything to this guy, he said he'd do this if this thing happened, then it did, and he paid the price of his daughter for being dumb.

Quote
Psalms 137:8-9 Prayer/song of vengeance “0 daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.  Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.”
Dealt with this one before, I assume you got it from the same website; basically when Jerusalem was conquered b/c they were unfaithful to God all the women and children were slaughtered by the invaders, here they want vengeance against those that did this.
Quote
Exodus 12:29 God killed, intentionally, every first-born child of every family in Egypt, simply because he was upset at the Pharaoh.  And god caused the Pharaoh’s actions in the first place.  Since when is it appropriate to murder children for their ruler’s forced action?
The Pharaoh was not a good man, he was cruel and unyielding, denying all requests by Moses and ignoring every warning. Yeah, I don't see that in my Bible. Did you miss that the Pharaoh did not allow the Israelite slaves any freedom and did not approve of breaks? Did you miss how the Pharaoh was warned constantly that plagues would happen to him and his people if he did not follow God's requests? Because I didn't. Add in that the Egyptians brought it on themselves in just about every way possible, including that the first-born was given the first helping of food in their culture, so the diseased food on top of their stored food would go to the first-born first, and really they had it coming.

Quote
Exodus 20:9-10 God commands death for cursing out ones parents Joshua 8 God commanded the deaths of 12,000 men, women, and children of Ai.  They were all slain in the ambush that was planned by god.
That passage talks about keeping the Sabbath holy and resting on that day. I don't know what you're reading.

Quote
Isaiah 13:15-18 If God can find you, he will “thrust you through,” smash your children “to pieces” before your eyes, and rape your wife.
Please just never use this source again for the rest of your life. This comes from a prophecy of what would happen to Babylon that Isaiah saw, and it does not say God will do any of this to you.

Quote
Jeremiah 11:22-23 God will kill the young men in war and starve their children to death.
"Therefore this is what the Lord says about the people of Anathoth who are threatening to kill you." FFS, I don't think I'm going to look all these up, because whoever wrote these things up forgot to look 1 line up.

If people could read context, then this would be 1000x easier. I wrote the preceding sentence before I even started this, and my goodness is it true. As much fun as picking each of these apart and thoroughly showing how terrible your source is at context, I do need to sleep sometime soon.

Progression. Build up. Not taking someone who's never gone running before on a full speed run when you're an Olympic runner and telling them to keep up. How a child learns to crawl, walk, then run.

Leading people doesn't mean immediately jumping to the conclusion.

Yet he still asks them to not think impure thoughts, which is impossible.  Right.
The Commandments are given with the explicit point that they are impossible for any man to uphold without the help of God.

*makes dudes write old testament*

oops sorry guys never mind i lied jesus says its k

*old testament doesn't matter anymore*

*people still follow the parts they want and use the rest as a reason to hate on other people they don't like*
The old testament still matters, it shows history of where the belief came from and gives many examples of people who went wrong and those that went right. It professes and shows how God loved his people from the beginning, despite all the hardships that went on and the amount of times they turned their backs on him.

People have always picked and chose, the Bible shows this and Jesus outright says that it's wrong many times. People suck, dude.

If he always loved people, why did he kill so many innocents in the Old Testament?
Some loving god.
Kills innocent people, where? I can just as well say that I'm Iron Man, bitch. But that doesn't really prove anything.

So who leads who, god or corrupt men?  The whole point of the commandments was to show the people right from wrong yet he spends more time restricting negative comments about himself than he does actually forbidding objectively more immoral things, like selling your daughters and owning slaves.

I like how in commandment 10 god throws in wife with the other possessions.  Sure sounds like something an intelligent being would do.
Because it's totally not like that's how it was in their society back then.
because that totally makes it legit and believable
If you think it's unbelievable that women were considered property in the Middle East thousands of years ago, then that's not my problem.
I mean that it would be a commandment from god. Obviously I know that's how society functioned back then, and it's really fucked up that that's how things were.

My point here is that god didn't see it as wicked in any way, and in fact made it a commandment to keep treating women like property. let's not even get into all the shit god supposedly said about how marriage works. (i.e. rape victims, war prisoners, etc)
Think of how a parent raises their child. Do you try to explain Algebra to an 8 year old? Things take time to become the best they can be. The world back then was not a place accepting of equality between men and women, they needed to work their way up.
Is that the reason things towards women around the world have basically stayed the same for 2000 years? I haven't seen any mystical changes in the documents to fix any of that BS
Funny, the 1st world countries don't act like that today.

"Jesus died to fulfill the old law". Pretty much all OT laws are null and void as of today. Of course the general rule, don't be a fgt to other people still applies.
Things didn't change until about the 60s which is pretty recent in the grand scheme of things.
Also, take a look beyond first world counties. Just because we don't live there, it doesn't mean we're any better than the people there. Many of those countries are way more religious as well.
Women are allowed to leave house alone
Women's suffrage act in US-1920
I'd say those are improvements.

Since women have rights in these countries, yeah it kinda does mean we're better than the people over there. So what if some are more religious, how is this ontopic?
