Why did they change the Scarabs?
It's canon that the types seen in H2 and H3 are different.
They haven't changed the Scarab. They did a redesign on te original H2 in the same way as everything else, but that isn't a Type-47 in Halo 2.

The majority of suggestions you listed are well known. However, I thought the context of our conversation was regarding Halo's core mechanics, which you did list a few of.
Those suggestions though still do not work to an extent. The problem with equipment and AAs still existing then becomes, how do you adequately represent them so the opposing player knows what you have in your "pocket" without modifying the player's shape or hitbox? In the end, it may become an absolute clusterfuck of a sandbox because you have two distinct abilities, one reusable, the other dispensable. Both behaving in very different manners and you can not determine if the player has one or the other, or neither at all.
This is why I find Spartan Abilities a very attractive idea. It gives you the versatility and change of combat that AAs (and equipment to a lesser extent) tried to provide, but in a balanced manner. No signifying change needs to be given to the player anymore because despite there being seven different abilities, you know that all the other players have them.
There's a video that Ghandi made in regards to Halo 5... I can and do agree with everything he says in the video.
Above all, we need to play the shit out of the Beta because it's a year out from launch. Now, I'm not saying or even implying to not hold a negative opinion of Halo 5's gameplay, but these extremely negative fire-laced reactions and opinions are completely absurd in my point of view.
In the end, it's a lose-lose scenario for whatever any developer does with a new Halo's multiplayer.
How did we know what our opponents' had in their pocket in Halo CE and Halo 2? I don't remember that being too much of an issue. Assuming it is an issue, even though I don't feel it really is I mean you don't have visible grenades and ammo on your character model, I don't see why it couldn't be visible on the player's back or belt or something. You can also determine whether or not a player has one if you see it has been picked up, or if it's not where it spawns. Also, you're not going to see it if it's not placed on the map, just like with any other weapons. It's an interesting and valid idea, I'll give SA that. However, I find it very hard to believe that you can add 7 different mechanics into the gameplay and have maps like Midship operate well as they used to. It's also a cluster of "wtf is this guy going to do now?" with 7 new things a player can do at anytime, added onto what a player can already do, it can reach the point where things just feel random and unpredictable as there are too many factors to try and count for. Imagine it like Halo 4 with One Man Army allowing someone to switch AA's on the fly. I am aware of Ghandhi's video, and I agree with him for the most part too. Rule #1 is that you can never make everyone happy, no matter what, somebody somewhere is going to lose out. All you can do is what you feel is the best option, and I hope 343i's choice is something that allows me to enjoy Halo further into the future, but if that's not how it works out so be it. I'll just hope until they have no chances left.
