I think it's safe to say that we all suck at knowing about guns.

>implying it's ever had a welcoming community
Every game, the 'pros' blame the newcomers for 'making the game worse' but then complain when they drive off the potential fanbase, reducing players.
The only part of the community that aren't dicks to everyone who hasn't been playing since before halo 2 came out are the forge community (Because it pretty much doesn't exist now) and the lore community still has idiots that despise 343 and hate them for the story post-Bungie.
Also the fact that most act like they just want a game with only one gun.
I could go and try to dig up threads from the Halo 2 forum welcoming noobs, not saying that in a derogatory way, and telling them that they'd be willing to play with them and help them, but I don't know if I could do that twice.
Most ex-pros/pros now that have made videos seem really laid back and make educational videos and explain basic things, as opposed to the over-aggressive MLG/Tryhard players that exist in some number. Also, the few players I've hung out with in-game were able to shit on me, but still kept me as a friend and would play with me despite me not being as good as them.
I don't think anybody wants a game with one gun.
I should've been clear about the pros thing. I was mainly referring to the wannabe pros and the MLG community that blames newcomers for every problem that exists in the game and shits on anyone that hasn't been playing since 2001.
The way people act around any gun that isn't the BR with wanting nerfs (And BR buffs) essentially makes the game a one-gun thing. In Halo 3, good luck using the AR or SMGs. In Halo 4, you used to be able to use pretty much everything before the TU which turned everything aside from the BR into a horrible weapon in every situation aside from the LR at long range.
Spoiler And I can rek with the BR on H4, but suck with every other weapon I used to like. And I hate burst fire guns in everything so I don't enjoy the br, so that TU pretty much killed Halo 4 for me. The default H3 AR was pretty strong post TU, especially in close quarters. You just had to know how to use it.
I don't know I it's just me but I have this thing where a gun has tonsound powerful for me to like it. It's why I love the DMR and AR in H4 but hate the AR in 3 I think. Sort of like a psychological thing. I it sounds powerful, I can do better with it, and the MA5Poop was one of the worst gun sounds in ever. I really love the 343 is using actual weapons sounds for their guns (Such as an M1 Garand for the H2A sniper)
Popcorn AR definitely was not one of Bungie's better accomplishments. However, the Airsoft BR and Wubstep Hammer in Halo 4 can have the same thing said to. They used the Garand for the H2A Sniper Rifle? Huh, thought they would've used a .50 BMG and altered it a bit to sound more like the traditional Halo SR sound, with the specific fadeout.
The hammer, suppressor, magnum and rocket sounded plain terrible. The BR was good but got annoying quick, though I absolutely love the DMR's sound in H4.
I also remember them saying they use an MP5 for the SMG and (I want to say) an M101 shotgun. Though all the sound in H2A is gorgeous.
I'm 99% sure they used an M1911 .45 for the Magnum sounds, because CoD4 has the exact same sound for that weapon in its game. I hope they keep getting better at that.

And I hate burst fire guns in everything so I don't enjoy the br, so that TU pretty much killed Halo 4 for me. That's not the MLG/Pro community whole, that's just the few loud-mouthed asshats that exist in every community. It's just more prevalent in competitive communities to the nature of the game.
IIRC, Post TU the AR killed quick at Close-Mid, Storm Rifle killed even quicker at Close, DMR still had better range, but the BR did get a stupidly done buff. I remember some BR-supporters even saying that they didn't need to make it as powerful as they did. AR and SMG were also viable weapons in Halo 3 when you didn't rely solely on their firepower to kill or you DW'd them.
Still, most Pro/Competitive players don't want a 1 gun game. They want a utility weapon, a weapon that works well in all situations, but isn't the best at any, as I recall. That still includes all the power weapons, and can allow room for other weapons. However, at that kind of playstyle, too many weapons really doesn't help.
Either way, the arseholes- representative or not- are at least partially helping in driving away new players, which was my original point, though I only ever saw people complain that H4's BR needed to be a 4SK weapon.
Still, I guess that's where me being a battlefield player comes in; I like having a wide variety of weapons that are specialised to a task so I can then make a class that is good at a certain role, which is why I don't rally play Halo. Not enough variety for me to enjoy. Which is fine, I don't think Halo should turn into battlefield an I'm still unsure on ADS in 5, even if it is just another aesthetic. If Halo's story wasn't as good as it was, I wouldn't buy the games as I'm not a big fan of the gameplay. But everyone has their opinions.
There are always assholes and always dumbasses, especially on internet forums. It might drive some people away, but most won't even go there in the first place, and running into those people in the game isn't too common.
Yeah, people complained that the BR being 5SK was bad and that it should be 4SK. Then 343i made it 4SK, but they did so in a way that you only needed 10 of the rounds to connect for it to count IIRC.
Yeah, that's fair enough. Halo has always had a simplistic multiplayer, and that's always really been its charm if you ask me. Of course, I'd like to see it so that players can change it in Custom Games and Forge any way they want, so it can be complex if people want to build it into that.
I jut want an entirely forge/ customs disc in H5G that has options for tweaking of damage, fire rate, bloom (etc) for every gun and grenade, has every weapon ad vehicle from every game in it, has stuff like ordnance and all the equipment and AA's and stuff and let people people make a full gametype. Want a sprint based game mode? You can tweak the full settings to balance it perfectly. Want a game mode with the Halo CE magnum? Go make it. That way, 343 can make whatever they want and include the tools for people to make a direct version of Halo 3 or 2 or whatever. Then allow custom games matchmaking and you would have an ideal Halo matchmaking where the community can do it's own Title updates and playlists.
That, plus bringing back Dual Wielding and allowing people to make maps/weapons/vehicles in some program 3D-modeling program and port them to the game, is what I have wanted and advocated for a long, long time.
We need a Halo on PC with full mod support already. I would love a Far Cry style map editor in there.
Though being able to import some T-45D power armour and a Gatling gun to fight in woul be fucking amazing.
Well, we have Halo Custom Edition. Buuut, that's self-supporting and around 10 years old, so the modders aren't as active despite having better things like Opensauce to work with.

Huh. I'd say whichever would seem the most abundant/easiest to utilize in the plasma-making process. Which I happen to no nearly nothing about how that is done. Or something environmentally friendly, idk.
Edit: Is there any real difference in effectiveness?
Well they're all superheated to a few thousand degrees, so they are all doing 4th (If thats a thing) degree burns and melting most metals. It's more based on the colour than anything. The species that utilises them most is ruled in a society that works like an alien USSR, and the leader has a signature colour in their flags and aesthetic that dicates the colour of their weapons. The previous leader- Tabek- used a violet colour in the army. The current leader- Kabolt- uses orange, which is reflected in the flag and colour of lights and stuff.
So, N2 then? Seems the closest to orange.

That's real neato. You're forgetting though, that the community has always been garbage.
There at least used to be a lot of cool people. Now no one makes machinimas or talks in game chat except to trash talk.
Must just be on your end. I've met a ton of cool people online on the MCC.
I haven't seen anyone in gamechat on the MCC because 343 removed the mic icon for some dumb reason.
I'm sure they'll add it back soon enough.
But why was it removed to begin with?
Why was red X removed from Halo 4? Because 343i sucks, that's why.

When you could just get a red sharpie and some scotch tape, and it's pointless cuz in those games hip-firing is inaccurate, I'd say no.

It's the Halo community. What did you expect?
Quality and plentiful Machinima, animated videos on Newgrounds, trick-teaching/informative videos on Youtube, and a welcoming community that tried to help new players to the community? Oh, right, that's not it anymore.
You're only focusing on the good aspects of that time. It was still a cesspool back then too.
>Didn't play Halo 2 on Xbl back then. >Had 0 problems with community >Never had to deal with hackers on PC It was a simpler time.
Sounds more like bliss from ignorance.
If never running into problems was ignorance, then that's fine by me.

I suppose you're right. "Press x to stop countdown" was probably the most broken mechanic ever introduced into Halo. Boneyard also had absolute Shit spawning....and the betrayals...
Press x to stop countdown was best mechanic ever. Let you know who was an asshole or not. Boneyard was an Invasion map, that should've never been used for anything else. Why are we talking about Reach like that was a good time, also?
