If so, you need to unplug yourself from the matrix and wake up.

Jesus, Deci. . .

Wake up, rise up. Open minds will dominate. Burn your fuse to detonate the human machines of hate.
This is one of those moments when what you're saying only sounds better in your head. Please take this into consideration when you continue posting today.

I disagree with you.

Elaborate.
Well you see your entire argument is that human engineering won't find a way to negate those negative effects on us.
Science is powerful bro.

It's all about random chance at the end though. We're not smart enough as a species to over come many things, and there is still so much unknown out in the vast void of space. We don't even know our own planet inside out, our oceans haven't even been fully explored.

We're just as clueless as the rest of the animals that walk the earth except we have a mind to adapt with instead of just wandering around like a lost animal, but even at that we still have flaws in our system.

For instance, 5 years from now there is a chance that a meteorite that's the size if Manhattan New York is going to hit the earth leaving a massive crater killing all of us off in the process.

I haven't heard anything about it since 2005, and to be honest that's what scares me the most then the stupid bullshit that went on with the world ending in 2012. Oh and the world actually could have ended on July 23rd of 2012 instead. We were a few inches away of our planet becoming fried matter from the sun from what I've heard. I'm not sure just how true it is, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Oh, and if humanity is still alive when our sun is dying, good luck trying to survive that. It will wipe everything out of it's path when it explodes.
Okay, the Sun isn't going to explode, learn astronomy please, this stuff triggers me. Edit with more will come, but I had to say that.

In this life time? No. The Sun won't explode. I'm talking about later on.

Please study your science carefully.
I will cut you the fuck up, do not mess with me on this. The sun is not of sufficient mass to explode. It will enlarge to a red giant, then go to a white dwarf.

If that's what you seriously believe then I do feel sorry for your great great great great great great (you get the idea) grandkids should humanity be around long enough to even witness that.
No. It's the simple fact that that is literally [LITERALLY] BILLIONS of years away. Billions. Do you even understand how long that is? I certainly can't comprehend it. We would be loooong gone from Earth before we even had a chance at being fried in a supernova or be frozen from lack of heat with a white dwarf.

That is unless we find ways to live underground and adapt to the harsh environment. But I wouldn't be surprise if the whole human race just got nuked overnight. There is also that possibility of countries launching nukes. Let's hope no one is really stupid enough to use them.
Shit doesn't happen like that, because life isn't that action-movie like, and because people care about self preservation and don't want to kill each other off.

I'm sorry but I disagree. Human nature has proven time and time again that you cannot trust everyone. Did you forget about rape? Murder? You think that won't happen? You think everyone in the world actually gives a damn about self preservation?

If so, you need to unplug yourself from the matrix and wake up.
That's a mighty big assumption you have there. Jumping from rape and murder existing to we are very likely to just initiate MAD tomorrow.

I don't really get this whole "If society collapses then everyone's gonna start killing each other"

like

humans are pretty social creatures
They seem to think it will be like Rome, but kinda ignore how modern society is incredibly different than Rome.

You don't think Anarchy would ensue? You seriously trust every person on this planet with that? Thugs will have the biggest advantage btw.
Except they won't, people band together and would rather ally than fight.

There's also this internet thing that breaks down social/geographical barriers allowing world-wide communication and learning. Also, great leaps in technology and social acceptance and structure. The world would not end easily.

Source? We have plenty of near-Earth asteroid trajectories, but none guaranteed to hit, in fact all have a quite ignorable percentage of hitting. If there was a problem, I guarantee you NASA would be flipping shit all over the place and we'd be throwing money at them like fucking mad.

Serious / Re: How can people justify their religious beliefs?
« on: March 03, 2015, 10:47:12 PM »
Like what? And you believe God can directly intervene with the earth?
Something unexpected happening that helps out the individual perceiving it as an act of God. More or less, yes that's kinda what an act of God literally means. It's also routinely used in insurance policies.

Quote
This isn't relevant because non-religious people can show love and compassion to others. Being nice doesn't prove there's a god.
This isn't about definitive proof, do you understand the subject fundamentally at all? Theology requires belief, faith if you will, definitive empirical proof doesn't match that. And it really doesn't matter if the person helping is non-religious or not, it's the act, not the person doing the act.

Quote
Those people are a product of indoctrination as children or a lack of intelligence.
Or, the just as likely yet you keenly ignored, an ignorance of the other side/something telling them they're not necessarily right. This example I liked because it involved beliefs that are founded only on experience and not interpreting the experience to mean anything other than what was given at face-value.

Quote
No, but the chances that they've ONLY encountered negative Muslims are slim to none. IF someone, theoretically, had only encountered radical muslims, then they would be justified in their understanding that "all muslims are bad". But if they still held onto that belief once shown evidence that contradicts it, I would consider them irrational.
Okay, then for a more believable to you example, the man also encountered some neutral Muslims but the effect they had is totally negligible because of that neutrality and the pre-concieved notion that Muslims are violent and harassing based on majority of previous experiences. But you agreed, so you agree that people are shaped by their environments and situations and that can cause one to adopt beliefs you find radically different from your own?

Quote
I didn't say that. I'm trying to fix people's lack of critical thinking.
But believing something to be true without evidence is not "wrong", but rather stupid, in my opinion.
Well, here's the problem. There is no definitive answer, and because of that people are going to go with whatever they feel the majority of what they've perceived in life aims them towards. For some, that is the belief of a god, or gods. While others see the absence of such a god or gods. Then there are some people that simply feel neither way has been more attractive to them, so they're in the camp of  "I don't know, there could be and I have no reason to or not to believe". The crucial part is that none of them know, and it's really best to get along because the variety of thinking isn't going to disappear.

3851
Serious / Re: How can people justify their religious beliefs?

Simply, someone that is a strong theist either had events that strengthened their thought in the belief
Like what?

Quote
or never had any major events that weakened their thought in the belief.
This is what I'm trying to fix.
Like moments where they saw what they interpreted as an act of God, or someone showing God's love and compassion to others. I mean, this really isn't too difficult to think of what kind of moments could make people think a certain way. Think about some racists, those people didn't just magically start thinking Whites are the only people that are good on Earth, either dogma or events where they saw a certain group of people acting bad caused them to feel that way. If someone lived their whole life only encountering violent and harassing Muslims, then would they really feel that only some Muslims are bad?

"Fix"? So, there's something inherently wrong with religion or theological thinking to you? Do you always support gay and trans conversion therapy? Before you say, "but you just said theists are shaped by events, those people are born that way!" keep in mind some people are more prone to certain modes of thinking, being religious could well be considered this kind of a mode of thinking. Well, that and there's nothing inherently harmful about theology.

I... I tried to resist this thread, but I couldn't any longer.

Man, I should find my Bionicles again. I had all of the Toa Nuva, plus the Toa of Light and Makuta. They were like my friggin' Avengers or A-Team something. Heck, I even had the PC game, which I played the hell out of:

YouTube
It was also on Gamecube. Reviewers called it shit for dumb reasons, but I couldn't see what they were talking about and I just want to play it again, same with Bounty Hunter.

How do you justify your beliefs?

What beliefs are you talking about?
Uhh your religious/non-religious beliefs. Duh.

My beliefs are not relevant. I am asking you (who I assume to believe in some deity) to justify your beliefs. Or at least, explain them to me.

It's not meant to be hostile, which I think you're taking it as. I want a rational discussion, here.
I was really just trying to get you to answer the question then use your own reasoning for how you came to your place in life to better compare it to how other people come to their own answers. Everybody's life is different, they have moments that shift them in one direction or another, the result is based on how they perceive the event along with their personality factoring in. Simply, someone that is a strong theist either had events that strengthened their thought in the belief or never had any major events that weakened their thought in the belief.

My life is complicated and even I think I'm mentally unstable, let's not go there for everyone's benefit.

Mata Nui was a giant robot and they all live in him.
Every one in Mata Nui is glitch.  They weren't supposed to be sentient.
Nobody really dies, they just get sent to the Red Star, but it's broken.
Matoran are just made, and the Turaga and other Matoran are aware of how and when they're made.
Romance can't happen.

Um... I was just building last night...
Hell, I just got him done last week.
Spoiler

But the new sets are good and you can't go wring with Lewa.. except that he uses the dumb new green. They're miles ahead of Hero Factory, although a bit more pricey.
At least until the summer sets come out.. they're so disappointing.
ayy Nocturn
The Mahri/Barraki line was one of my favourites.

I dunno. I always liked the Lime Green Toa of Air (Lewa is Jungle now. Fuck you Lego).
Oh no, it's not lime green.  It's the new "Green Lantern" green.  It's ever so slightly brighter than regular green, but just enough to be too different.

But 2007 had to be my favorite year, and I've been around since the beginning.
Oh

But still, it's Lewa. Lewa is great.
He really is, and I love his build.  I kinda wish his new mask looked a bit more like his first, but it's still a nice design, I think.  I just can't wait to revamp him, now.
I don't like the new heads. They don't hold the masks very well.

Post pics of your revamp.
That's too true.  But I will when I'm done with my Invasion From Below creatures.  Buuuttt I still need to order more pieces.
I hope to gOD there's a new reboot Takanuva set in the summer lineup.
I'll buy that shit in a heartbeat.
Sadly no : (
Just a handful of shoddy villains and a Mask Maker protector.
They had the sets at Toy Fair.
eww they look terrible
whoever designed those should be shot
Yeah.. it's such a shame considering they started out string with good sets.
When I first saw them, I didn't even think they looked like Lego.
I thought Red Phantoka was cool, although I ended up turning him into a dragon.
