I enjoy emergency ring swapping to red tearstone. Doesn't always work and fisticuffs have horrendous range. But if I ever get a stunlock or a backstab.
Victory is sweet.
Blue + Red Tearstone rings make for an interesting build. You should give it a burl.

Unbuffed non elemental weapons are generally better. While elemental damage may list your AR as being better than the default non elemental, you have to consider that you now have two damage paths.
Physical and your respective element. If you ever meet somebody who's stacking elemental resists through the roof, you lose the effectiveness of your elemental side of the weapon.
But nobody can ever resist pure raw default goodness. Especially bosses.
Always hated making an elemental build because coming up against resistant enemies makes everything a rainy day.
I know, in general I try to keep weapons physical if the scaling is good, but the Iron King Hammer only loses 30 physical from strength scaling and like 10 or so base physical when infused, and it gains a buttload of fire damage and scaling. In addition, the Ring of Blades only loses about 10 damage from the infusion, unlike nearly any other weapon, making a fire infusion on the weapon almost a no brainer. If I happen to run into some guy running Flash Sweat or whatever, I keep a Battle Axe in my pocket. Nice moveset, great strength scaling, good damage and counter. And of course, I can always swap to a Zweihander/Greatsword/Pursuer's Ultra.

Really though, Sandtrap, poise is amazing on heavy builds thanks to the hyper-frames ultra-weapons get while attacking. I can regularly poise through small weapons, even greatswords and curved greatswords, with 91 poise.
