I live in Wisconsin so they're not uncommon. You should be fine so long as you take proper shelter.

Well, I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome as a child. It's not something I really think about too much.

"Chally <3"

Just because I'm in agreement with Chally doesn't mean I'm kissing his ass. You can agree with people you aren't fond of.

Also, people can value whatever they want. I would imagine most people value personal gain over their work. You work to live not live to work.
People are scumfuck pieces of shit who deserve to die, then. All of them.
The grand majority of scientists love their work and don't do it for money.

But that monetary compensation should be irrelevant to them is wrong. They're human beings. They need to be happy too.

Verbatim doesn't live in reality, Chally. I've tried telling him this several times.

It's a failure that we don't use happy wishes to pay for goods and services?
It's a failure that we don't see the merit enough in our work to be happy with the work we've done.

Yes, that's one of the greatest failures of all time. Fuck money, fuck getting paid for anything.

If you wouldn't work for free for your passion, you're an awful, awful person.

And yes, that means 99.9999% of the human race are awful, awful people. Wow. What a bold assertion.

Not really.

Yesterday I found a CD player and speakers, 50 CDs, Jak X, an original Xbox, and VHS copies of Saving Private Ryan, Scarface, all 3 Godfather movies, Jaws, Spider-man, X-men, The Matrix and Jurassic Park. My total was something like $53. A fucking steal.

I envy you so badly right now.

I once found Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and Cruis'n USA for the N64 at a Goodwill for three bucks. What cool stuff have you found at thrift stores and garage sales before?

You heard it here, folks. If you contribute anything to society and expect a fair wage in return, you're a piece of shit. Fuck teachers, scientists, doctors, social workers, etc.
Yes.

It's not really a controversial statement. Not even a little tiny bit.

If you're not working out of the GOODNESS of your heart, what other option is there?

Do you even go outside and interact with other people?

People put humongous amounts of time and effort into conducting research. They're not awful people for wanting to get rewarded for their work.
The breakthrough itself is the reward. Get it through your thick skull.

They can also value whatever they want because you can't force people to value things that you think they should value. Scientists are human beings like everyone else with lives outside their work that they probably value over it.
That makes them pieces of shit. Just like everybody else who values "whatever they want" over their contributions to humanity.

To some it may be the reward. However, to others it may be what they can do with the breakthrough or the monetary reward for the discovery. We don't live in a world where everything is perfect and everyone cares for one another. All attempts to create such a world have failed miserably (e.g., Maoist China, Cambodia, USSR).

You know as well as I do that a world like that wouldn't work at all. People want and deserve compensation for their time and effort. Academics are no exception.
Which is exactly why people deserve to burn and die.

I'm not putting words in your mouth. Also, valuing personal gain over work doesn't mean you deserve to burn and die. You're being extremely childish here.

How is your ideal world in which people such as scientists only do what they do purely out of the good of their heart in anyway realistic?
Please show me where I said it was realistic.

Just because people don't conform to your naive ideals doesn't mean they're awful cretins that deserve to burn in hell.
It does if I can prove my "naive" ideals to be valid, which they are.

I'm talking about monetary profit here. Why shouldn't a scientist be allowed to advance themselves financially through their work?
Please show me where I said that they shouldn't be allowed.

This is what I said:

If you value money and personal gain over your work as a scientist, I have two words for you:

Spoiler
Fuck you.
It's implied in this post. Stop playing games.

As far as wanting shit "in return" for their work, that's what I was attacking. As a scientist, you work for the good of mankind. When a scientific breakthrough occurs, you've just edged humanity a little bit further towards uncovering the mysteries of the universe.

THAT'S your compensation. That should be good enough.

Also, people can value whatever they want. I would imagine most people value personal gain over their work. You work to live not live to work.

And? Why shouldn't they be allowed to profit from their research? What's wrong with that?
Furthering mankind's knowledge of the universe IS profit.

I don't know if you're aware of this but people have to actually feed themselves and their families. Not everyone lives in a snow globe like you do.
Except that's not their only form of income. This has been discussed.

Research and creating papers like this doesn't come cheap, and people don't usually spend tremendous amounts of time and effort just to better humanity. They want something in return.
