Bump because I need to turn it in soon and need some feedback from the Halo community.

Gaming / I wrote a Halo monologue
« on: April 09, 2015, 07:50:46 PM »
So basically, I had to write a monologue for my animation class and I decided to base mine off of the short story, "Dirt," by Tobias Buckwell. Instead of the story being narrated by Gage Yevgenny talking about his life, I chose to turn the spotlight toward the one and only Rookie from Halo 3: ODST.

If you guys could take the time out of your day to read it as well as give me feedback, I would really appreciate it. I really put a lot of time and effort into this project, despite the fact that it's not exactly original nor is it too extensive. That being said, please enjoy.

P.S. There are a couple of Easter eggs here and there. Some are better hidden than others, so try to find them.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zKGfXrBj6VlpIP5Cmyf6EFdulCpkj6y9Gs6gGvHgKEk/edit?usp=sharing

Edit: For the record, there are a couple of pretty bad grammatical errors because this is a heavily edited version of the first draft, my bad.

Or fangirls?

The whole concept of "My preference is far better than yours so fuck you" just seems beyond silly to me. Since the majority of you guys have Xbox Ones, can someone tell me what's wrong with Playstation (not just the PS4) in general? Why the hate? Why rip it a new one saying "Playstation sucks!"?

Now I get it if the current gen system sucks, because systems are subjective. They have pros and cons. Like for instance, I think Microsoft went the wrong way with the Xbox One, BUT I still love the Original Xbox and the Xbox 360, because those were both great consoles.

The PS3 was an okay system. I'm not going to praise that because it didn't really have anything for me. I borrowed a PS2 but never owned on. It had some fun games, but for the most part it was again, okay.

PS1, that is my fucking childhood right there. Before the Xbox, that system kicked a fuck load of ass vs Nintendo. So many games, Crash Bandicoot, Crash Team Racing, Spyro, Toy Story 2, Jet Moto, SyphonFilter, Gran Turismo, etc.

Not to mention before gaming got really popular, the PS1 dev kit was public and was available to order easily online in 1997.

But, let's go back to current gen here with the Xbox One and PS4. Right now, the PS4 is..... decent. It doesn't have a massive library of exclusives yet and both Xbox and PlayStation are going head to head in trying to be as similar as possible.

I'd argue that you can shareplay easily on PlayStation 4, but I'm pretty sure that's also possible on Xbox One as well. Both consoles really don't have anything banking for it at the moment, but in a general sense, why hate the brand? Okay it may not cater to you or your interests, but that doesn't mean it should be considered an abomination to gaming. It's just a company making money by selling systems, whether it's Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo. Why go apeshit over it every year?

Just play games. Your preference should stay that way, a preference.

Now personally, my preference for gaming in general is the PC, but even that honestly is no different from a console. To me, PC's are customizable consoles that can do more than just play games. Heck I consider mine to be a potential do it all dev kit even.

Anyway, I'm not here to change everyone's mind, but I'd just like to express how silly all of this is with "my shit is better than your shit" don't you agree? I mean it's childish. We're all adults here, I think it's time we handled this in an adult matter.

So with that said.... ALL CONSOLES SUCK! PC MASTER RACE FAGGOTS!

I'm kidding, I'm kidding. :P

Anyway, what are your thoughts?
I don't own a PS4 because of the fact that Halo, my favorite game of all time, is an Xbox exclusive title. The same reason goes with why I don't own a PC yet.

The only reasons I still have my Xbone is because of Halo and Grand Theft Auto. Pretty soon it will be just because of Halo.

What is it suppose to be?

Halo Online is basically a reskinned Halo 3 with sprint, for PC.
Sounds neat.

Besides some of the Halo 4 models that were carried over, it's pretty great.

So a couple days ago, a girl kissed me for the first time in my life. I was under the impression that she was interested in me, but it turns out that she was leading me on. This has happened at least three times since the beginning of the year and it's killing me. It doesn't help that I am depressed, either. I need something to help me keep my head up and look forward to because I feel like absolute shit all the time.

i7-4790K
NVIDIA 980
~540W PSU
16 GB RAM
1 TB HDD
250 GB SSD

Or you can just get the Alienware Area 51.
I'd rather just build my own PC.

Let me ask you this: do you enjoy making video games? If so, continue doing what you're doing. If people are calling you a "wannabe dev," who the fuck cares? It is what you like to do and you will get better in time. I myself plan to get into game development/design once I get out of high school, and if there's one thing you need to realize before you get into it, is that there will always be people trying to put you down. Trust me, there is a difference between constructive criticism and flat-out being a dick.

Do what you want to, fuck everyone else.

Agreed, and yeah I do enjoy it. I couldn't imagine doing something else to be honest.
That's good, keep doing what you love and the money will (most likely) come.

The problem is that actual devs would be hard-pressed to say that a career in the video game industry is worth pursuing.

Not that most users would mention that--they're too busy having their 'lolDeci' circlejerk.

This lolDeci bullshit is cancer. The fuck is wrong with these people?

As for your OS, I'd either get 7 or 8.1 It won't matter soon because you'll be able to get Windows 10 for free when it's out.
I will?

Yeah, you have an entire year to upgrade for free if you have Windows 7, 8, or 8.1
Oh, that's convenient.

For your processor I would highly recommend an Intel i7 or above
Not really. An i5 is more than enough if he's only using it for gaming.

Well, I have an i7, but I do more than just gaming on this thing, I also have 16GB of RAM.

I think I'm gonna upgrade my graphics card next.
Well there you go then. Unless OP is doing video editing or 3d rendering and shit, an i5 is plenty.

No point in him going overkill and getting something unnecessary.
Actually, now that you both mentioned it, I was thinking about going with i7 for editing videos and such (I'm going to be testing for an Adobe Premiere certification and I use the program quite frequently. I plan to get certified in AfterEffects as well).
Well if you're doing a lot of editing, I'd recommend and i7.

Agreed, as well as asset rendering as well, you will need power for that.
Yeah, definitely.

Edit: My budget for everything, including peripherals, would be around $1,000-$1,200. This is a rough estimate. Games I'd like to play on ultra include but are not limited to: The Division, Metro 2033/Last Light, Far Cry 4, Payday 2, etc. Out of the games listed, I only have Payday 2. I plan on taking advantage of Steam sales in the future, so I will figure that out in time. Suggestions for other games?

Recommendations:

Graphics card: R290X or higher ~$300
Processor: i4-4550 or higher ~$250
RAM: 8GB ~$90
HDD: 1 Terabyte ~$130
PSU: 750W ~$100
OS: Windows 8.1 ~Depends, check your school for discounts
Motherboard: (I prefer MSI A88) ~$75
Peripherals: Keyboard + mouse + monitor: ~$200
Case: <$100

That fits your budget, though it doesn't leave much room for games. Use price comparison tools to find good deals. The Reddit guide is pretty thorough.
Thanks, I appreciate it. Like I said before, getting the games won't be that big of a problem.

Listing your budget and if the cost of peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse) are included in your budget would help.
Whoops, forgot to quote.

Don't forget that you'll need money in your budget to pay for the games you want -- unless you're going to pirate them, but it doesn't sound like you have experience with that.

You need to post your budget, as well as what games you're hoping to be playing on ultra. Expect to pay upwards of $300 for a graphics card able to play current releases on ultra settings. For processors, aim for 3.0+ GHz in a quad core, around $200. Make sure your motherboard is compatible with your processor, though that's typically only an issue when you're upgrading later on. Storage is really your preference. I'd start with an HDD and eventually upgrade to a second drive or even an SSD. Get a reliable case at the start. I'm still using the same case I started with 6 years ago. Power supplies are pretty much universal, expect to pay about $50 and shoot for 700+ Watts. Finally, RAM (or memory) is also pretty straight forward. You need at least 4GB; expect to pay around $50. If you don't have the peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitors) that you want to use for gaming, expect to add another $200 or more, depending on their quality.

Use this website as a starting point, or just use whole builds:
http://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds
Thanks for your suggestions. Also, I've edited the OP.
