I completely disagree. The Mandalorians and Empire are not affiliated, and the designs of their armor should remain distinct.
Besides, they should look like Stormtroopers, not Clone Troopers. In addition, the stormtroopers were created before the Mandalorians were even thought of.
The stormtroopers were from the clones, which had armor based off mandalorian armor. Everybody knows if you want a better look you should go back to the original. Actually maybe this is better. If they went towards a mando look they would screw it up.

Keep putting one foot in front of the other and you'll get there! Although, what I might reccommend you try, is taking a look at something out of real life, or a photograph, and seeing if you can copy what you see.
I think for a lot of people who want to draw, there's this allure to draw what they come up with themselves. But the thing is, very few can ever do it at the start. They don't have the right skills and comprehension to take what they see in their head and copy it out onto whatever media they do it with, without it looking off.
However, that doesn't mean the approach you're taking is wrong. Everybody has their own way of doing things. I remember a girl back when I went to school, she loved dragons. And everyday without fail she'd draw pictures of them. And, naturally at first they weren't very good, and she got a lot of flak from people.
But I saw something she made a few years later and let me tell you, those days spent drawing like an obsession worked for her. She is damn good at making cartoon characters and she's refined how sharp she is with a pencil that she can take a cartoon and make it look like the creator drew it themselves.
So, so long as you keep it up at a reasonably steady pace, you'll get there. One foot in front of the other compatriot.
I've never tried something that I see... I will try that.

Aside from the first they were weren't work on for perfection. I was just checking out different things to find out what really looked best. Now that I have those out where I can see them I am working on something that will have bit's from everything I've done.

The armor was designed to deflect projectiles and glancing shots I think. The troopers were considered expendable, so why outfit them with good armor?

Left is an actual prop, right is a render.
I myself am quite pleased with it. It pays homage to the original design, while still appearing much more sleek.
Now, there's no official confirmation that these are real, but given that the photo on the left is an actual, physical helmet, and there appear to be multiple helmets behind it, I'd say it looks legitimate.
They should have made it closer to mandalorian than away from it. But there are worse things that could have been done

You just need to practice. My eighth grade drawing had several hours spent on it and that's all I could do. Now I could probably do it in 20 min You just need to practice your skill to get good
