It's the will and need to get better to the point where I'm the best at fighting. I wanna be the best because I never wanna lose.
You've just become an anime protagonist.
I'm 99% sure that's an actual line from DragonBall

Like, it's actually cringy to watch Jay make a really smart observation and then backpedal on it to agree with Mike.

What did those 3 miserable alcoholics from Milwaukee that pretend to be VCR repairmen think of the movie?
Mike and Jay both liked the later parts of the film but felt it was a bit weak overall and borrowed too heavily from other films. I think Mike liked it more than Jay.
first time i've seen them disagree with each other more than 10% of the time
I kind of feel like Jay has been getting a lot better at analyzing films and Mike hasn't been doing much of anything.

Someone at RLM has to be aware of this, and so a lot of times I think Jay elects to agree with Mike (maybe even in direct contradiction to things he's already said) just to keep up the ruse that they're equals on the program.

I'm decently looking forward to playing shadow keep sometime soon.

I've heard it wasn't all we wanted, but it seems alright too.

The Flood / Re: AI is immoral and don't buy Alexa
« on: October 08, 2019, 02:13:49 AM »
I wouldn't be too worried yet. I had a chance to test several Alexa / Google Home devices as part of some of my work's marketing research and Alexa is fucking dumb compared to Google Home.

I asked it to show me "top car accident lawyers near me" and it pulled up a random spammy law firm with "top car accident lawyer" in their name. Several other variants of the test revealed it to be kinda stupid. It's really good with Amazon services but really bad at interpreting what you want outside of that.

If anyone is going to do it, it'll be Google.
Did you hear the buzz about Google and NASA's quantum computer lab actually producing a processor that can perform calculations a traditional computer can't?

It's said that in just 3min 20sec, it finished a calculation that would have taken the IBM Summit 10,000 years.

Imagine what will happen when they start doing machine learning projects with these things.

Skynet by 2025 alls I'm saying.

This is why you should read books by multiple authors on subjects you want to know about, instead of listening to only one person's opinion for months on end.

at that point, why even make a thread, he's obviously not here to discuss his beliefs, this is a political board not a political blog
Venting is cathartic.
it's catharsis devoid of meaning, a hollow feeling that will only need to revamped once he realizes that his moment of self-actualization was inepiphanous. Then he'll just make another thread and the cycle will continue at the reader's expense.
I think you're selling catharsis short. It can be the difference between someone managing to cope with their emotions or snapping and doing real harm. It's not supposed to be about coming to a realization of anything, it's just a release of tension.

Better to have someone ranting than hurting someone else or themselves.
Fair enough, but that's assuming that this actually led to any sort of relief. It's just as likely that someone posting a rant like this walks away feeling even more vindicated in their intolerance, more hostile towards "the other" (in this case, the fabled far leftist SJW PC libtard NPC soy cucks), and more angered by how everyone else is too stupid/brainwashed/incapable of coming to terms with "the truth" (in their eyes) that they just dropped. Venting can definitely help in some cases but I'm far from convinced that a rage fueled rant about how the other side is so fucking disgusting and vile that you fucking fear getting thrown in jail for saying the wrong fucking thing because stupid NPCs and leftists are gearing up for another fucking civil war is something that calms you down and makes you feel less aggressive towards those who disagree.

Besides, whether or not you resort to physical violence is a pretty extreme standard for this being a good thing. Rant away if it makes you feel better, but if you decide not to listen to people who shed light on clear misunderstandings and mistakes you're making, then the only thing you get out of it is feeling more entrenched in your beliefs and intolerance. Better than violence, sure, but obviously pretty shitty either way.
I'm not saying his rant was effective for him in any way. I'm just saying that there's a reason people do things like this. Solonoid seemed to think it was entirely pointless.

Also, when I say it's a release of tension, I don't mean that it makes you hate your perceived enemy any less. Punching someone in the face can be cathartic, and it's pretty much the opposite of trying to hate someone less.

Ranting about people you hate isn't an absolute guarantee that a person won't resort to violence, but I'm definitely a believer that if people don't express the way they feel, even though it may be hateful, then violence will be a more common consequence.
I hold a very low opinion of catharsis.

I think unless the emotional release achieved helps a person understand the emotions they pent up, or gives them insight into the emotions they have been feeling, then it ultimately does more damage than good.

Eventually, people get hooked on that kind of artificial relief, and then they end up going out of their way to seek it again, to more explosive proportions.

If a moment of catharsis doesn't inspire epiphany, it should leave the individual with more questions about what they felt, or why. Rather than just the dopamine release of a person ranting purely to reach a moment of manufactured vindication.

I have concluded of my own ruminations that the most common form of catharsis, the shallow kind devoid of understanding, is no better for a person than being left to stew, and depending on the personality it afflicts, it can be dangerous for the mind, in some cases the body, and always for those around you.

Look fam, sorry but, you're completely politically ignorant.

And that's coming from a guy who traditionally isn't considered the best informed by our fucking assembly of EU lawyers and whatnots
The worst part is just the attitude he has going into this.

"I'm not here to argue or debate. Save your rebuttals. At this point, facts don't mean much. It doesn't matter if what I say is entirely false, I don't care about your responses. Don't bother refuting or correcting anything because I just don't give a shit about what's accurate or correct. My feelings matter more than the truth and I would rather knowingly repeat things proven to be false than to learn and grow as a person."

I really don't understand how you got to this point Deci but it's really problematic and doesn't make much sense.

Government regulation was mistake. It’s nothing but trash.
that's the most frustrating part

I still build by hand and buy house juice from a shop I know and trust, but Juul is fucking the industry and now people are dying.

It's just fucked.

Unfortunately for international law, the United States never follows it ever for anything.

This is not an isolated or exceptional case of the US electing to ignore international mandates in order to respect its own constitution, or the will of its own people. Or even just because the US government is full of dick heads who know they don't have to follow rules.

Yet, the US continues to get away with it.

Probably because everyone knows there's nothing they can do about it, and that it isn't ever going to change.

And probably because a cordial relationship with the United States is more beneficial to the international community than embargo or sanctions.

Some would say that international lawmakers are giving the US all the power, but in my opinion, the US isn't given power by anyone. The US exercises the power it already has, and everyone just knows that they will have to deal with it.

This is a question beyond the issue of what's right and what's wrong. It deals with ideas that are less complicated, ultimately, than whether or not a country should respect its constitution (a constitution the majority of its citizens support). This question is more primal:

What do you think you're gonna do about it?

The Flood / Trump administration moves forward with vaping ban
« on: September 12, 2019, 01:14:34 PM »
The ban on flavored vaping products is moving forward.

If you've never tried unflavored vape juice, it doesn't taste like clean air. Vapers have dubbed the taste "liquid death",and it's incredibly likely that this move is going to create a cigarette epidemic in the United States.

We're unsure when, or even if, new FDA approved flavor products will hit the market, especially considering no such product exists yet.

Hope you like cancer, America.

Nice. Interested in becoming a professional chef?
Not as a lifetime career, but I'm a pretty talented cook, and I'm thinking that I'll spend the next few years doing it.

It seems wrong to deny a talent while I'm in such a formative time in my life.

I'd like to make Sous Chef at JHMR within two years and become a year round employee there, leaving my job with Vail resorts behind.

At the very minimum, I know I can move up from intermediate to advanced Cook within 2020, which would really help the ball get rolling.

My cousin was a waitress in Jackson Hole for a few years. Supposed to be beautiful.
I'm working at Jackson Lake Lodge rn as an intermediate level cook, and it's definitely beautiful already at this time of year, but I can't wait to see it in the winter.

I start at JHMR in December, and I can ski to work every day.  It's kinda a pipe dream.

If you guys wanna join my Destiny server, it'd be cool to have you.

I haven't invited anybody yet, but it's a place to LFG and discuss the game and lore and stuff.

I was putting off using it until I got settled down some, but I'm planning on staying here in Jackson for a while, if not a few years, since I have jobs here for ten months out of the year now. But it would be cool to get to get the server popping in the meantime, because I actually kinda miss the game.
