I feel like Catalonia fucked themselves over a bit. They were basically their own nation minus a few things, and now they're not going to get that at all.
who knows this could end with them getting what they want

Puigdemont was formally deposed by Spain today.

The Separatists still recognise him as their president.

I also participated in oratory competitions growing up. I won a few gold medals.

At one competition that has been held annually for over eighty years I received a higher score than anyone in any event has in the history of the competition.

That's basically my claim to fame.
To say the least, I enjoy public speaking.

Yeah I always enjoyed it.
I was in a mock government for a long time, and at first was outspoken and championed a lot of bills, but toward the end of my career I became a more senior behind the scenes guy in our party, and I find that you receive an equal amount of satisfaction watching others speak in favor of bill you authored, or deliver speeches you penned.

I was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
What's illegal about this and RC's post?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolen_Valor_Act_of_2005

The law made it a federal misdemeanor to falsely represent oneself as having received any U.S. military decoration or medal. If convicted, defendants might have been imprisoned for up to six months, unless the decoration lied about is the Medal of Honor, in which case imprisonment could have been up to one year.

"The Act by its plain terms," Justice Kennedy wrote, "applies to a false statement made at any time, in any place, to any person". Such breadth means that the law is "sweeping... [the] reach of the statute puts it in conflict with the First Amendment... the statute would apply with equal force to personal, whispered conversations within a home."[26]
The Act was ruled rightly unconstitutional a few years ago. It was replaced in 2013 by a new one that only criminalized pretending to have received medals for the purpose of receiving tangible benefits. To my knowledge, simply saying you have one or even owning a fake one isn't at all illegal, and neither is claiming you're military when you're not (unless it's to claim certain illegitimate benefits).
my love is a tangible benefit

Honestly the "people do it anyways" argument is the worst form of justification for anything
Why does it need to be justified? People are gonna use shit, I'd rather they're budded out taking a nap than drunk and beating their wife.

The ideal world of nobody using drugs isn't gonna happen anytime soon.

Everything we do should be justified
Just because something is the norm doesn’t mean we should just accept it

We only got to this point in human history because we wanted to change the negatives in our society
Most massive changes occur when we pioneer in completely new directions, without regard for the problems.

For example, electricity may be seen at first glance as an advance against our dependency on fossil fuels to light our homes, but when you consider that our dependency actually increased as a result, you realize that this modern marvel was, in fact, developed purely because we could. It's the same with advances in aerospace, compound materials, and nearly every other revolutionary product.

These advances were made purely in the interest of advance, no matter the eccentricity and no matter what problems may be resolved, or created, in the fallout.

We owe societal advancement to people who ask questions that have not been asked before, not to people who scurry about trying to solve all the world's problems.
damn you're stupid as hell😂😂😂
nice, good one

I'll have to write that down so I can use it sometime.

Mr Rajoy said: "Spain is a serious country, it is a great nation and we are not prepared in any way to allow some people to liquidate our constitution."

I love how this simultaneously forces Spanish rule down Catalan throats, and alienates them as 'some people'.

Mossos and Spanish Police have already been engaged in one confrontation.

Avoiding Civil War would be a miracle.

I'm pro-life. Abortion is murder.
If there are 50 embryos in one oven and a 5 year old child in another. They will die in 10 seconds and you can only open one of the ovens and save the occupant. Which oven do you go for?
What does that scenario have to do with the issue?

It's completely fabricated, unrealistic, and doesn't parallel any of the choices a mother actually has to make when deciding whether to have an abortion or not.

The worst part of it is if the embryos are already separated from their mothers, then they'll die anyway.
The question is loaded.
