The anti-military crowd lead their debates with emotions and feelings. You're talking about people who'd prefer to see the military be disbanded (as an outdated institution so they say) without a second thought of the consequences that might have. I mean what exactly is the point in going around judging different military roles as to who is most courageous and cowardly? The military functions as a cohesive unit and everyone is a part of a whole. Ultimately everyone in the military puts their lives at stake in some way or another. If you're not an anti-military nut job and you think snipers are cowards, then you don't know what you're talking about.

Well I pretty much would oppose this idea for those reasons. I don't think the general public would be capable of making an informed decision on these issues and would just vote for whichever the media manipulates them into voting for.
Well that's pretty much why democracy doesn't actually exist. I just extend that argument and say that even if there were no influential force over society, democracy still wouldn't be preferable because experts always know better than the masses.

So what exactly are the changes to the Serious board you're going to be making some time tomorrow that Mr P had mentioned?
I mean I really doubt the Serious board could get any worse at this point; the mods who post there lock all the threads that threaten their world view. Why the fuck do you need to be legit in order to advocate a position? There are no debate forums where playing the other side is looked down upon, in fact it's just the opposite. But IcyWind and Mr P think it's dangerous and open minded (they see open-mindedness as a bad thing) to allow people to discuss certain political stances with the sole reason being that they get offended at it. If I were to make a thread advocating against gay marriage, it would get locked because the those two staff members do not know how to ethically and fairly run the Serious board. They think the whole Serious board revolves around themselves and their feelings.

I thought you opposed democracy.
I do, I'm trying to (not subtly) bait Meta (because posting a different opinion is illegal on the board because IcyWind is too easily offended at anything that threatens his world view). And you can't just say a one-liner if you want to actually get a response, you usually have to inflate the idea with a paragraph. But to clarify, I don't necessarily oppose democracy; it's certainly better than most other government systems. I just think that a technocracy would be better than a democracy, but there's really no way to know for sure because it's never been tried.

People in New England are used to shitty weather. It's the Californians that freak out over some light rain.
"IT'S A RAIN STORM OH NO THIS IS SO CRAZY"
Dustin you've already been proven wrong on this seeing as how NorCal gets similar weather to the Northeast.
It's north easterners that cry that the world is ending because of a 0.5 earthquake. Meanwhile California doesn't even wake up for anything less than a 5.0.
So you're agreeing that southern Californians are complete retards?

Democracy is the only fair way to get something done. The only reason we have a representative democracy rather than a true one is because it's just not practical to vote on every decision a government makes. But my argument for this thread is that monetary policy is something that is so important that the people should have a say in it. As we all know, if a decision is made democratically, the out come is always more fair. Ultimately it comes down to the fact that if the decision isn't decided democratically, then the best interests of the people aren't at heart. That's why we need democracy, because the people know what's best for them, not anyone else.
Bullshitting aside, are there any outstanding issues you can think of that ought to be decided with a democratic vote rather than an expert, and vice versa? Maybe it'll be easier if I just make a list of decisions and you can say whether or not they should be decided democratically or not.
1. Where to set the minimum wage 2. Whether or not to invade a country (granted no urgency exists) 3. Whether or not humans should be trying to look for other intelligent life (and thus making them aware of our presence) 4. Whether or not we should be mining domestic shale 5. What the tax rates should sit at
***Because I didn't make it clear enough, that first paragraph is just bullshit. I thought I made it clear that I'm not an advocate of democracy and I do not believe that people know what's best for them.

I don't need words to feel better, I have a house. Also, Sandtrap is a miserable person and will die shortly.

Not tonight young one.
Pretty sure if I push anyone too far I'll get a warning and I'm already at 25%. Not that I take responsibility for stupid shit like that, kids ought to learn some self fucking control, but yeah I don't need a ban.
Aw shucks, you know you wanna. Give into those pent up urges, and set them free for a fireworks display for all to see~
I don't have any pent up anger, in fact I don't even hate transgenders you guys just don't know how to not to get offended,
Oh man, look at how offended I am. Come of kiddo, you clearly aren't even trying anymore.
I mean you sound pretty mad right now, even there's really nothing to get mad about. And even if there was you shouldn't be getting mad anyway.

No, faster than light travel is impossible.
Doesn't make interstellar travel impossible, just harder and more of a long term investment.
So is the greater cosmic/physical purpose of human life so mathematically small that we're irrelevant (which would mean we could do what we want), or is there a greater physical/mathematical need for humans to spread and disperse energy?
?
I'm sorry, what are you asking?
Everything ultimately pulls back into the singularity. So does human life play any significant role in that, or are we so insignificant that we can do what we want?
There's really no evidence now that points towards a big crunch at this point, if that's what you're talking about.
And we're just as much a part of this universe as anything else within it.
Did you change your mind or something? Weren't you the one that said that gravity would eventually overcome the dark energy forcing the expansion of the universe?
I may have said there are certain models of dark energy, quintessence, etc., where the value of the scalar field may change but as of now there is no evidence it will.
Dark energy as we currently understand is most simply modeled as a cosmological constant which, as the name suggests, is constant for our current spacetime. Of course it could be totally wrong.
I'm tempted to switch my major to engineering physics so that in the future I would actually understand whatever the fuck you just said, but I have to stick with chemical engineering to satisfy my hopeless dream that I'm going to genetically engineer bacteria to clean up dumps and other waste sites and become slightly famous and slightly rich over it.
Fuck me.
To be totally honest, you should, I can tell by talking to you that you'd love it.
Well I guess I have until next fall to decide. Working with optics and lasers and shit does make more money and it's less shit to memorize than chemistry.

Can someone tell me why Dustin is still a member of this site?
Because I don't break down under criticism in an explosion of teenage angst and autism.
And yet I'm back from the dead.
And you will not last long before it happens again. Your mindset is poor and you don't know how to change.

I love the fact that you actually think your obvious bait gets people mad, lol. You the real MVP, Dustin.
My bait is quality, it's not my fault the pond is over-fished. Well yeah, it probably is my fault. But a lesson learned to all of you about how to not be so gullible and easily offended (many of you still need to learn how not to be easily offended however).

Suit yourself, but I'm sure you are going to enjoy the new serious rules tomorrow. I sure will : )
Serious is already really shitty, I doubt there's much more you could do to kill the forum.

The thing is, you've done the same material so often and so frequently that it's lost all of it's punch. Nobody actually gets offended by it anymore, it's just another wearisome shitpost.
Your justifications are always shit though. If you honestly thought my threads were that lame I wouldn't get the responses I get. It's like when people claim not to care but still post and argue about it like they care. "I'm not offended, I'm just really mad for no reason."

It's sad that people make parodies about a topic that people actually struggle with.
It's sad that people come up with bullshit just for attention.
It's sad that this is what you do for entertainment.
I disagree.

Nah, I fucking despise trangenders. They all piss me off. It's like they all have a giant stick shoved up their ass or something at all times. If they could actually learn to be nice to people I wouldn't hate them.
