In zombie TV series and movies I've seen, they explain that after a person dies and their systems shut down the virus restarts the brain and the person reawakes. What usually doesn't make sense is how they function with damaged organs. You'd have to assume that the virus would have to perform the function of extracting nutrients, collecting oxygen, and removing waste rather than utilizing the person's damaged organs. That would make for a very complicated virus (it could potentially require multiple cells to work). Needless to say, it would be very unlikely that it would adapt like that naturally. But I also don't see why a virus like that would be engineered like that either. If someone wanted to kill everyone with a virus, they wouldn't bother turning people into zombies, they would just have the virus kill people slowly in an undetectable way so that the virus could easily spread. Although I guess that scenario doesn't work because people would quarantine the infected, so you'd need a force to attack non-infected. So maybe turning people into zombies would be necessary after all. But then you're stuck with the problem of how zombies could even defeat a military force. I've always seen that as a huge plot hole in zombie apocalypse movies and TV series. So you'd need the virus to spread fast and undetected but rather than killing them, you would have them turn into zombies. That way, you can kill off the last of the population that have isolated themselves from the virus.

Okay, that's enough babbling. Anyway, do you see zombies as anything realistic or not?

I was in one of these tournaments a long time ago and I was never able to finish because my opponent quit too early. Although if we're able to do it again, I along with two others will be judges (I will also serve to set up the debates). If there are enough people who are interested, I think we can actually get this going. It should also help kick off the 'Serious' board and hopefully set the tone for how discussion should be done.

I'm thinking on setting it up like this: randomly assigned topics with randomly assigned stances. Because this is a tournament, opponents are to be randomly assigned as well. However you can still request to debate someone of your choosing on the side, but it wouldn't be a part of the tournament.

Because topics on their own are too general for a small one-on-one debate, there would be an essential question that would focus your arguments. For example you might end up with the topic, 'genetically modified organisms.' The essential question might be, 'are GMO's healthier for people?' You also might end up with the question, 'are GMOs more economical?' My goal is to have more obscure topics that aren't in the news everyday which should keep things more challenging and interesting.

Because this is a tournament, these debates can't last forever. I was thinking that one opponent would be randomly chosen to go first, and the next opponent would have a maximum of 24 hours to reply. A reply later than that would qualify as a disqualification. This should allow people to debate others from different time zones. The judges would watch over the debates and jump in once it appears all arguments and counter arguments are laid out. The opponents should indicate when they've said all they need to to keep the debating from running in circles.

As you'd probably expect, no one is allowed to give any of the opponents any advice. You cannot call out logical fallacies or other unlawful conduct until the debate is over (unless you are one of the opponents). While it is up to the judges to decide the victor, everyone is allowed to pick apart the debate to help give input to the judges.

That's about all I can think of that I need to cover. Please provide input and help improve anything that I laid out. As I said at the beginning, I need two other judges, so feel free to nominate yourself. Judges should be able to withhold bias and read and analyze large walls of text (if you've got this far through my post, you could potentially be a really good judge). It's also better if you don't have a busy schedule. And hopefully not everyone asks to be a judge like everyone asked to a moderator, that's just a giant clusterfuck of disappointment that just isn't necessary. We need many more people who are willing to debate than people who are willing to judge. So speak up if you want this is something you'd be interested in and please provide input. We'll need a minimum size of about 8 if we're to get this going.

Anyone who still plays Halo seriously needs to get with the times already.

I've up voted so many of you guys, literally like two dozen at least, but you guys just keep down voting me. There's no reason why any of you should be butthurt about me anyway. I know Jim holds a grudge over me because he doesn't like how I'd prefer not to sell my soul to Bungie and suck their dick everyday. And then there's Max who randomly decided he didn't like me one day and announced it to the forum so I called him fat and I guess he's still mad over that. And there are just random people here who I don't even remotely recognize that will randomly exclaim how they're going to mute me in threads and it's just like, 'how is this supposed to get at me when I don't even know you?'

So yeah. With the exception of a small few users here who I like and don't anonymously hate me, I'm going to stop up voting you guys. And I hope you all become bad members yourselves.
