Arcanine was a good asset to my team. Can't remember the place where you can get a Fire Stone, but I think it was a long while after the area it can be caught.
It's usually a good idea to keep Arcanine as Growlithe for awhile then evolve him anyway.

For me it's not a pokemon playthrough without an Aron raised to an Aggron >_>
But that's just me, do you have any pokemon like that? <.< It'd be good to aim for one of them, makes a new team feel more familiar.
Equally I'd pick a weird pokemon, one that's not necessarily all that good and see how well you can do with them.
My BW2 team was uh... lots of strange pokemon.
off the top of my head I went with
Seedot
Wooper
Aipom
Snivy
Darumaka
and a bug type that I can't recall ;-; sorry whoever you are.
It made for some... challenging battles.
And to tell the truth, I already ditched the starter pokémon Snivy for a Riolu. I wanna be unique in this playthrough
I have done that a couple of times, just mixes things up a little more than usual lol.
Starters always get that advantage when you play Pokémon, always ahead of your team and you always have a connection to it right away. Making it the best Pokémon you have because it's the one in the first slot.
So going ahead and placing your starter to the side can REALLY change things up, which is really nice.
What starters did you give up?
I can't really remember, but I have a feeling it was one of the sinnoh starters for a platinum playthrough.
Damn, I kept my Infernape all the way to level 100, awesome Pokémon. Loved Empoleon too. But 5th gen starters just...suck

I lost my copy of Black though, so that thrilled me.
Oh bummer. I still haven't beaten White 2, tbh. I just dislike the generation so much. The only thing that kept me going in the first one WAS the story.
I would rather play Pokémon Heartgold, Diamond, and Y(if I had it). But I lost almost all of my DS games and now i'm left with White 2...not that it's a bad game, just not my favorite
