The Flood / Re: Weirdest thing(s) about your family?
« on: September 04, 2015, 12:19:38 AM »
Parents are hard core tea party conservatives/christians, but only became so after having two homes foreclosed after a series of very bad business and money decisions. Basically, they fled to religion out of desperation or something. They wanted to be rich, and now they're barely getting by month to month renting houses that are way too nice and expensive for their current financial position. They're extremely materialistic and try to make it seem like they have way more than they actually have. Also they believe Obama is a Muslim terrorist that wants to destroy America and that the gay agenda is a real and evil thing.

I don't want to come off as insulting here.

Fuck your parents.

You know what a common tactic is for kid's stuff? Innuendos.

Because the parents are going to sit through something or read something to their kids, sometimes media entertains both the parents and the kids.

Kids because they're little, and parents because they pick up stuff that go right over kid's heads. I wouldn't doubt that it's an actual kid's book.

Weird. Hmm. Lemme think. We kinda fucked the legalalities over a bit in terms. The oldest person in the family at the moment is my sister's husband, 70. And he would be called my brother in law. To my mother, he'd be a son in law. And he's 10 years older than my father. Kinda funny, at least.

Actually, come to think of it now, I guess since I don't notice the age anymore. My brother in law is 70. And he's not what you'd expect of a 70 year old. He's as physically capable as a man in his 20s to mid- 30's. And just as active. More so actually.

He knows quite a fair bit and he's seen quite a fair bit. I can say he's always good for discussion of some kind.

My little neice is smart as a whip for her age. Scary smart. If you watch her converse with people, you'll notice that she can do so with anybody. Kids her age. And with adults. Obviously she won't discuss particle physics. But she comes up with things that'd surprise you. You almost forget that she's a kid.

My sis? Well, she's remarkable. One completely non functioning eye and a quarter of another working only. She cooks, cleans, works on her garden, hauls firewood with me. Learning how to use a weaver. Legally blind and with only a quarter of one eye working you can't keep her down and out.

Mum's pretty normal, I guess. Tricky questions you asked here Verb. I tend not to look at any of my family as strange. I guess to an outsider though we'd be a strange bunch.

Play smarter. then. Learn to parry. Get used to the delay between pushing the attack button and the attack itself.

Wow you're at the Forest and not a decently high level?

He's doing good Chally!

He's supposed to go to the forest to get to a high level! The NPC's in the woods are fantastic for farming up to a decent level.

Forest is where you go to get your high level.
He said he hasn't leveled up in "forever".

Either that was some extreme hyperbole or he's like level 10.

Well, I think by now it's been established that Loaf's a twitchy little bugger with the attention span of...well, nothing really.

I think he's level 10 and it's extreme hyperbole.

The Flood / Re: Why is being sensitive frowned upon in today's society?
« on: September 03, 2015, 08:03:13 PM »
It isn't.

Using your sensitivity as a means to an end, like as a jail-free card from criticism, is frowned upon. As it should be.

Well.... I dunno about that. Being sensitive not being frowned upon, I mean.

I was given a metric shit ton of flak as a kid for reading books beyond simple schoolwork. That's not really a good example of sensitive I guess, but to them, enjoying reading was the probably the faggiest thing I could do.

Alongside not wanting to hurt people or fight, or, hunt animals.

Those things I listed would be considered as "sensitive" things for a guy to do in my particular avenue of the world.

Anything with levers. Case and point, riding lawnmowers. There's an order to which everything is set up or pushed down and it just doesn't fucking stick with me. Basic inspection only ever gets me so far because on some complicated machinery you can' fucking afford to pull levers and see what they do.

Which pisses me off because then I look like an ass on the job. I've done it a million times before. Never fucking sticks.

The Flood / Re: On the topic of GMO's
« on: September 03, 2015, 02:34:53 PM »
It's not about eating natural, it's about not eating poison. There's nothing wrong with genetically modifying organisms, there's everything wrong with the additives that Monsanto puts into theirs.

But I guess that doesn't help your strawman argument, huh?
The argument isn't that GMOs are inherently good. They aren't. The argument is that they aren't inherently evil just because "they're not natural ", as some people think.
I've never used this argument against GMOs. Computers aren't natural. Medicine isn't natural.

Well, actually, they are. They aren't naturally occuring, yes. But because they're a product of universal and atomic reactions, and follow all the established universal laws, yes, by definition, they are natural. But I get your point. A computer doesn't just pop up out of the ground if you plant it.

Medicine, on the other hand, is just simple structures. Hell, everything we've ever built or made came from a natural existing structure in nature. All we did is refine things a little bit.

That of course doesn't mean that I support GMOs. The actual main problems with GMO crops aren't the hidden shit and unknown shit that we aren't told, or even the stuff that's not known to the designers themselves.

It's the fact that they're peddled and pushed down people's throats. Laws exist to keep GMOs in production over just regular old plants. A farmer isn't allowed to sell his crop to anybody but the company he signs his contract with.

And, what does this all amount to? GMO's don't function naturally with the existing ecosystem. They don't reproduce because they're designed not to. They don't fit into the existing natural framework of the environment. So, when you have all these fields of GMO crops that don't pollinate, don't spread their seeds, and don't properly feed other life forms, what happens?

Environmental collapse.

That, and the fact that GMO crops are tailored. They're designed to fit a standard which therefore means that they're relatively identical to one another. History, evolution, you name it, has shown that too much of the same gene pool, or lack of diversity, is a bad thing when strain and pressure is introduced. That's how species die out.

Lack of variables.

GMOs wouldn't be such a shitty thing if they weren't becoming widespread replacements to everything, and actively muscling their way over everybody who wants an alternative. The supposed and potential cancerous health issues?

Fucking everything today gives you cancer anyway. We're surrounded in an environment that is cancerous.

Why can the Covenant speak English, and why do they? Especially during battle?

Like the other folks said, Chief's suit had translation software in it that translated known Covenant dialects. But your questions.

The Covenant can speak english because they studied human language when they had first contact. Most higher ranking members of the Covenant have a firm grasp of human language and tend to use it in insults or messages.

Grunts, in particular, use it commonly on their own because they tend to operate communications monitoring equipment, and have something in their biology about possesing higher learning synapses, allowing them to quickly and fluently learn multiple human languages which they've been known to use among each other when not in the sight of a superior or higher ranking species.

They also have a black market for human tech and entertainment, which is also why the language is known.

Demon is actually a nickname for most Spartans.

I believe Thel coined the Spartan from Grey Team, Jai, as a "Demon."

How long were you waiting to use that? Just curious is all.

It must have taken months of batman levels of prep time just to align the solar system so said picture comment could be made.

I salute you for your tenacity and timing. It's almost on par with cheese potatoes.

Honestly. When did this become a thing?

Didn't Despicable Me come out several mass extinctions ago? And the internet is just now feeding off the yellow bean creatures?
I think there was a Despicable Me 2, and now there's a new one out called Minions. Which focuses on the yellow things. It's only a meme in the Facebook-friendly normie sector of the Internet, which is the primary reason I'd hypothesize why it triggers basement-dwelling permavirgins such as ourselves.

Don'y you lump me with the basement sub dwellers Verby. I live in the flatlands where having a basement is stupid.

Imma hardier variety of the common permavirgin. I'm a flatlander dust dwelling permavirgin.
