Your boss lets you get away with that? Mine said I was showing too much leg and made me cover up. I think all my leg hair was turning off my coworkers too much.

tbh i like vanilla ice cream more than most flavors, but i wouldn't say it's my favorite.
it does have the wonderful plus of being the best for root beer floats, though, which are superdelicious.
I can't stand floats As far as icecream goes I'm partial to chocolate, vanilla is fine but I find I get sick of it faster than any other.

Woke up at 7 and had a nice trip to the bathroom for twenty minutes. Showered, ate a muffin. Uhhh then I went to work. So plans for the rest of the day are to try and do some work then go home and maybe play some Pillars of Eternity.

Why the fuck hasn't this thread been shut down already. Take it to PMs already. Well I suppose that wouldn't work, I imagine challenger would just make a thread about Mordo's PM and try to laugh about it.
All these groupies
Really not sure what you're trying to imply here because at this point I like neither of you.

I am a little tipsy at the moment so please forgive this horrid post block I'm about to make we already have information--why do we need to give information a brain
So it can be processed, of course.
Humanity's problems stem from a deficit in collating and processing information.
well, you can't make a ball bounce higher than it falls
besides, i don't really know how you define "processed" information what does it mean for information to be "processed", and why do you need sentience to do that
do you mean problem solving? learning? i don't think that's a function of sentience--and in some ways, are we not already there?
I don't think that ball metaphor really works in this situation. I mean hell you can easily make a ball bounce higher than it falls by adding more force to its descent. You're getting at the idea of problem solving being sentience, which I agree its not, that is Reason. But I think sentience helps when dealing with the issue, the ability to emphasize and feel drives a lot of decisions, often for the better. Oh yes, and this. By this set of logic, all children are man or woman made creations since they were technically engineered biologically. i think the fact that they're "engineered" biologically, as a biological function, proves the opposite
we don't make babies--our gametes do
We wouldn't be making the AI after a certain point, they'd be building themselves. And there's no saying that we won't eventually be able to understand our DNA and genetic makeup enough to create designer babies and alter shit. But anyway my point is we won't understand the creation of AI any more than we do ourselves. We aren't anything apart from a very complex computer we don't understand, AI wouldn't be all that different. I think at some point AI would be machinery that mimics biology so perfect you couldn't tell them apart. Ignoring for a moment the fact that it would be unethical as hell.
Is this along the same lines of how you think it's unethical to reproduce? (Not that I disagree)
yeah
in my opinion, AI should only be used for protocol they should efficiently perform a given set of tasks
without question, without fear of pain, and without loss of energy
sentience adds nothing but nonsense emotions and another tripe that would just get in the way
My problem with this is the same from the first quote I have. Reason without Sentience just seems like a bad idea, if we're going to have AI it needs to be able to think on a human level to avoid any problems. If sentience is done right it can be ten times better than pure reason. A AI with sentience would be able to sympathize with humanity and wouldn't be as likely to abuse us, sure some might decided they're offended by us but that's nothing worse than Humanity has done to itself in the past. And in the end our Sentience drives us into doing the right thing.

I think that's a little silly. In highschool I was a little crazy with how much I smacked the meat, after awhile I stopped. Felt no different either way.

Well all of Sir Ken Robinson's for obvious reasons. Here is one of them: https://www.ted.com/talks/sir_ken_robinson_bring_on_the_revolutionDavid Eagleman has a really good one of creating sense: https://www.ted.com/talks/david_eagleman_can_we_create_new_senses_for_humans I was particularly overjoyed to hear him talk because I'm a big fan of his works and writing in general, on a related note he shows up in a few RadioLab podcasts. This talk by Hugh Herr about improving and overcoming the limitations of the human body through bionics:https://www.ted.com/talks/hugh_herr_the_new_bionics_that_let_us_run_climb_and_dance?language=en Neil Harbisson's talk on his cybernetic augmentation to let him listen to colour:https://www.ted.com/talks/neil_harbisson_i_listen_to_color This talk is one of my most favorites, Sherry Turkle really hammers in on something affecting a lot of our society today about how we handle and deal with eachother through technology: https://www.ted.com/talks/sherry_turkle_alone_togetherIf I remember more I'll add them

I don't have much hope for any of them. Adaptions don't really seen to fair well these days
I don't think they've ever been good in terms of movie quality.
Nah adaptions can be good. Jurassic Park and The Lord of the Rings are good examples. Plus if you're into it, most Studio Ghibli films are adaptions of literature.

The design is nice but I don't think I'd ever wear them based on the popularity of pokemon. It's bound to attract people I wouldn't want to talk to.
I have no problem telling people to leave me alone
Eh why bother telling them to leave you alone if you can just avoid the situation in the first place. Still I do like the shirts, just not my style to wear them

What? 147 African Americans were killed by law enforcement in 2013, as opposed to 300 whites.
And my first statistic encompasses between 1999 and 2013, not last year, I apologize. Still, I'm not incorrect.
Crude rate for whites in 2013 alone is 0.14. Crude rate for blacks in the same year is 0.34.
Blacks are still die during legal intervention at a disproportionate rate.
Ah I dun goof'd.
I still stand by my statement about the people trying to politicize this though.
It's a serious issue that needs to be addressed, how would you fix it without politicizing it? Any reformation of the legal system and racism on the force would have to come out of politics, it's how our country functions.
