The Flood / Is Negan a truly bad guy?« on: December 10, 2016, 12:47:46 AM »
I mean he is bringing society back together. Is it ideal? No. But could the world be put back together perfectly after a zombie apocalypse?
Think about it. Everything has gone to shit. The only thing that keeps you alive is the sheer will to survive. Then you meet Negan. He gives you a place in the world and a place and role in it. Sure, he's cruel. He takes a lot. But you have safety and rules to live by. Moreover, he's predictable. Give him his due and you live. Break them and pay. Is that really any different than how it is now? Lose your job and you lose your ability to pay bills or get healthcare. The only difference is the timeframe. My point is the Walking Dead writers are villainizing what makes us, us. We follow rules or pay. We have people over us we may not like. But life goes on. And we live. 455

Your time would be better spent in an atheist vs Christian flamewar on a video game forum.
I was talking about CA Prop 64 today with a coworker. All he could say was it was leading to druggies and stories about how his sister's job was surrounded by homeless junkies. Finally he said that no one should profit from people's addiction and he was going out for a cigarette. The irony of his statement was lost on him. 458

The Flood / Why did it take white vets to get the ACoE to rethink DAPL?« on: December 04, 2016, 08:42:32 PM »
Brief history: Farmers in ND rejected DAPL because they were worried about their water supply being contaminated by an oil pipeline. The Army Corp of Engineers decided to move the path through Sioux lands. The new route had the pipeline going over burial grounds and right over the reservation's aquifer. The tribe called BS, started protesting and blocking the path. The company called in private security contractors and police, who's been very rough in dealing with the protesters. Finally a group of about 2,000 vets joined the protest.
In less than a week the Corp of Engineers backs off and denies the easement to the oil company, forcing it to replan the route. Why dir the presence of white veterans change their mind? If it's the right decision today, why not a month ago before people were hurt? 460

Lately he's been one of my favorites. His posts haven't been the repetive bullshit that plagues so many other forums. The threads have actually been fairly thought provoking.
I'm not being sarcastic or ironic in posting this. He's turned a corner. I guess I have to do the same. 461

The Flood / The troubling unspoken history of Halo and other sci-fi stories« on: December 02, 2016, 06:30:15 PM »
Johnson, Mendez, Keyes, Kirk, Ohura, Sulu...
They're all more or less still racially "pure." A look at most sci-fi games and stories shows the same. If racism had been conquered, then 500+ years in the future there should have been enough interbreeding that most people would be racially ambiguous. It goes to show that most sci-fi authors, including Roddenberry, had hope that humanity could conquer the universe while being pessimistic we could overcome our racism in who we mate with. 464
The Flood / How did you find out Santa wasn't real?« on: December 01, 2016, 10:18:55 PM »
The worst thing that ever happened to me was on Christmas. Oh, God. It was so horrible. It was Christmas Eve. I was 9 years old. Me and Mom were decorating the tree, waiting for Dad to come home from work. A couple hours went by. Dad wasn't home. So Mom called the office. No answer. Christmas Day came and went, and still nothing. So the police began a search. Four or five days went by. Neither one of us could eat or sleep. Everything was falling apart. It was snowing outside. The house was freezing, so I went to try to light up the fire. That's when I noticed the smell. The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.

The Flood / What happens if Russia actually did steal the election for Trump?« on: November 25, 2016, 05:47:55 PM »
I don't believe there's a precedent for this.
We've one less SCOTUS judge. And many of the senatorial sections might be called into question too. The prospects of what could come next has me thinking that this may be one of those things best left alone. 468

http://m.motherjones.com/politics/2016/11/will-congress-investigate-russian-interference-2016-campaign
Which makes you really wonder how much conservitards hated Hillary or the idea of Hillary. They're ok with Russia, led by a former KGB agent, spreading propaganda at best, at worst hacking the actual election itself. And people are ok with this. Had Hillary been the one supported... I think we know how the righty reaction would have gone. 469

The Flood / Question about the Power Rangers« on: November 22, 2016, 03:41:14 PM »
Why did the bad guys plan always involve a giant monster? Giant monsters had a 100% fail rate at any point in the story.
If they did want to defeat the PR's, wouldn't a pistol to the head while they slept do the job? All the police would see initially is 5 unrelated murders. It would be at least half a day before it came out that they were friends. By then the giant monster would be super effective. 477
