Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

One of Tom Hanks earlier movies. Spoiler Joe is living a miserable dead end life with no friends and a job he hates. A billionaire pays his doctor to tell Joe that he has a fake disease, a brain cloud, and that he will die soon. The billionaire then hires Joe to sacrifice himself so he can get mineral rights to an island in the South Pacific. Joe agrees to jump into a volcano to appease the natives on that island. The billionaire promises him that he will live like a king until he makes the jump. Joe outfits himself for the journey, meeting the billionaire's 3 daughters. While the first two are messes, the third is his soulmate. His voyage to the island ends in disaster, as his boat sinks. Only he and his soulmate, Patricia, make it to the island. When they get there he tells her his full story, and the billionaire's lies are revealed. Joe ends up being forced anyways to jump, but an updraft throws him from the volcano, and he and Patricia survive. He leaves the experience in love with Patricia, wiser having lived to die and vowing to live for what makes him happy.
