the community doesn't always just voice their choices based off popularity. A lot of times its simply just who would be best for the job. I think the missed opportunity here was diversifying the staff and choosing people that weren't part of the hierarchical circlejerk of the site.

If you're talking about Verb, he got quite a bit of support during the staff discussions, including my own. We simply are looking to see if his turnaround keeps itself up before we suddenly give him a position of power. Assuming he does keep it up, he'll be considered in the time that we need more staff.

If you're talking about others, multiple people were discussed in the discussions. We kept an open mind.

The thing with Verb is that we'd like to see him to continue to be the same mellow individual he has been and addition to being more accepting of opposing ideas/opinions/etc. The former bit will hopefully continue, the second needs work, but could work with a trial period, its not like he wasn't considered, he did have votes for him. He just needs some time and he could very will get it. The current pick was just what we had decided after going back and forth with the pros and cons of individuals and who we felt most comfortable with for the time being.

take kitsune for example. Yea she was a newcomer to this community, but it's obvious she really digs this site and is really active. she also has a unique perspective as a complete newcomer to this place ..... although the majority of future members will be from bnet.

This supposed circle-jerk played no role in our choosing of new monitors. We picked the two candidates that we felt have, and will, best represent our community and help to sustain it's longevity. In the event that they fail to do so, we will reevaluate our choice and consider other candidates who posted in the thread.

If you are looking for some conspiracy, there isn't one.

I'm going to point out here that Psy and Cheat are the only ones who talk to Kitsune on a regular basis.

Psy and I are the only ones that have talked to Kupo on a regular basis.

There are also a lot of other people that Psy, Cheat, Yutaka, Comet, Flee, and I talk to on a regular basis that applied and didn't make the cut.

It's kind of hard to claim circle jerk when each member of the staff is involved in different/multiple circles and we had a three day debate in HQ over who would be the best pick.

OT, I like the choice of monitors. Kit's forum is pretty good, and while I'm not on there anymore, I'm sure she'll do a good job here, too. Kupo I don't know as much about, but he's friendly enough to be on the staff.
