Indie games are something the Industry needs. They're the only games that do something new.

But then there's all of the shit half assed ones that took like a week to make that comes along with them.

It's a tricky one, there are a handful of indie games that I'd put right up there in my favourite games ever of all time in the world like Banished, Minecraft and Endless Space. Then there is a deluge of horsecrap that is basically something ripped off of notdoppler or minigames and upscaled to 1080p.

Indie games tend to be the most innovative, but thats usually because they have to innovate due to a lack of resources.
Success of an indie developer will generally kill their creativity.

Really enjoyed Transistor and Contrast.
I'm hyped for Hyper Light Drifter and We Happy Few as well.

I just ignore the bad ones. I really don't get why people feel the need to lump them all together, and be overly negative about it. There are good games and bad games. You play the good ones and forget about the bad ones.

Indies play an important role in the industry, and pretty much give you an extra gem every couple of years that you wouldn't have had otherwise.

I'm sick of the sheer volume of "retro" platformers (read lazily done games that pretend sub-par graphics and a total lack of features=retro) tbh I prefer smaller games from bigger studios, like Child of Light. Although if you want a non-mainstream, unique game like KSP then Indie is the best.

Indy games can be VERY hit or miss. Usually when they're good, they're AMAZING, but when they're bad they're pretty awful.

Some indie games, that are genuinely made with passion, are great. They bring fresh new concepts to the industry, that the bigger publishers don't dare risk to try out, if they were to be unsuccessful.

Then there's the unoriginal ones, that only try to make a quick buck with poorly thought out mechanics, filler content, simplified art design and lacking in polish, etc etc...

The amount of Minecraft and DayZ clones you can see on Steam is too dang high. Seriously, when Minecraft used the blocky art style, it fit the game mechanics and was original. Nowadays everyone and their aunt seem to be using it as an excuse to not having to make proper 3D models. When a game where blocks doesn't matter use a blocky art style, it's just pure laziness.
