I love you, son.
You use the mouse to move in the isometric games, not WASD.

Bit like Habbo Hotel innit.
oic

that's fine i guess but it still looks gross
Yeah, it's a bit of an acquired taste. I guess I was used to playing games with weird perspectives when I was younger so when I played FO1 and 2 for the first time last year it wasn't as jarring as it is for most.

I enjoyed Fallout 3, mainly due to the location (atmosphere), and soundtrack of the game, both ambient and radio. Fallout 3 will always hold a special place in my heart, but that's probably because it was my first one. Still, when revisiting it last year, it still gave me that same feeling it used to before.

but nothing about Fallout 4 captured me

Boring location, dumbed down conversations, dumbed down RPG mechanics, and very questionable decisions. It's kinda turned me away from the Fallout series for future games, honestly. Just stick to your Elder Scrolls where you can at least keep a coherent universe together.

It took me a bit to get into Fallout 1 as well, but once I did I was in love with it.

I feel hard-pressed to call Fo4 a bad game when at last check I had 36 days of playtime in it, most of that in the first six months of launch.

Pretty much the same for me. Fallout 3 was a great introduction to the series in spite of its problems, considering it was basically a messy retelling of a mix of 1 and 2 with varied quality of execution. Fallout 4 doesn't even resemble Fallout aesthetically or tonally.

It's not a bad game

It's just not that great a Fallout game aside from the one thing I felt it was ambitious on, which was settlement building.

Yeah that's the one thing that reaaaaaaaaaaally made me uncomfortable the whole time with FO4. Aesthetically, it didn't look like Fallout in the slightest. All the signature things were just completely changed, from med-kit boxes, to simple overall designs, and it bugged me. Especially the stupid colorful buildings in Boston when it's been shown in the Fallout universe that buildings are very much tall 50's tier sky scrapers. I don't know, it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Tone wise as well, I didn't get any of that oppressive dark tone/humor as well. Only creative thing I'll give it in that regard is the stories they can tell with their environments (things like the skeletons or structural damage, like the ones who died when robbing a bank). Funnily enough, they tell better stories than the actual people do.

Anyone remember the whole Nick thing summoning Dog Meat out of nowhere, even when you've never met him before? Yeah.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
There was a time when I thought Fallout 3 was bad, and everyone and their mother gave me shit for it.

Having beaten it several years later, I can honestly say that I enjoyed it quite thoroughly.

Then, all those people who gave me shit for not liking it before suddenly decided that they hate the game now.

That's my life in a nutshell.

You can easily track it on Reddit (elsewhere as well, but it ain't as concentrated with fanboys as /r/Fallout who like to argue or post "DAE FNV WUZ GREAT?").

-Fallout 3 got released; old folks hated it, claimed Fallout 2 was the best, a lot of new folks loved it.

-Fallout NV got released; some old folks loved it, a lot from Fallout 3 loved it, a lot from either camp hated it for different reasons. Ended up having Fallout 3 vs Fallout NV wars, still do (The whole "but muh atmosphere" argument).

-Fallout 4 is released. Everyone's has an initial orgasm as it released, then as it simmers down everyone gets into a shitfit about talking protaginists, plotholes, retconns, glitches, limitations... then it got worse when mods were released for consoles, then as Workshop DLC and Nuka World was released.

Now we're at a stage where many have fallen by the wayside after each Fallout release so you got Fallout NV vs Fallout 4 as the main argument, some still stuck on Fallout 3 vs NV, and some old fogies with Isometric Fallout vs 3D Fallout.

Reddit is currently in cycles of "DAE COMBAT ZONE SHOULD WORK?" to "DAE LOVE THE VERTICALITY?", circle jerking an infinite line of hate and love, with no apparent middle ground.

Excuse me, I'm full of dog poison
Really the only issue I have with 4 (same one I had with 3) was that your character has a set backstory. New Vegas gave you a purpose without limiting who your character was.

The Elder Scrolls games were good about it as well, it's a shame they can't get that right with the fallout universe.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

Should try if i can get a decent performance out of it. DS3 runs well enough.

It is very good, but a serious performance hog in places when it doesn't need to be. Had to get a few texture optimisation patches and fiddle with the .ini to get it smooth almost everywhere.

Boston city is fahken lahg masheen.

emigrate or degenerate. the choice is yours
You know, for something that's so colourful and vibrant, Boston has to be one of the most disinteresting cities I've ever played in a Fallout game.

The only memorable moment I can recollect is the super mutant tower but other than that there really wasn't any engaging gameplay opportunities offered there.

this is the bethesda formula. everyone rides their dick on that "sense of exploration" nonsense but most of the big places you're supposed to explore in their games are poorly thought out when it comes to the actual gameplay experience. it's just that their art design is really good so a lot of people don't notice.

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
I wish the guy that sold you the swatters in Diamond City was the leader or a member of some baseball-obsessed group that worshiped the Boston Red Sox. How are they gonna make a game based in Boston and have nothing to do with the Red Sox?
