WoW. Is it worth playing?

Should I play WoW? I want to play an MMO, but the ones I have tried aren't that fun. (Neverwinter) I want to play it, but I don't want to get addicted to it.

If you want to play an MMO then Guild Wars 2. Single purchase - no monthly subscriptions. Combat encourages player involvement through active kiting, movement based skills and a dodge mechanic.

WoW started off great during the Vanilla/BC period, but then started to go downhill after the introduction of Cataclysm and Pandaria in its haphazard attempts to attract more casuals and keep itself relevant on the market.

Which it has succeeded in no doubt, but at the cost of the hardcore players. So yeah, if you're a casual, WoW is the archetypal entry level MMO.

If you have the time to devote to it EVE is pretty damn great.

You also have to be ok with actually losing shit when you die though. Casuals typically quit after they lose their first ship because they don't like not having their hand held.

Two things to remember in EVE.

1. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.

2. EVE is only as boring as you are.

i tried vanilla but it sucked
imo the private servers around when the burning crusade was released were the best. probs the best time i had playing mmos, however they suck now

Get Guild Wars 2.

I've tried twice to get back into WoW after initially leaving, but unless you're paired up with a friend it's boring as shit. Not worth the monthly fee.

that being said, its worth it OP. not really worth a year-round sub but you can get a shit-ton of content out of it with a few months' sub time. fantastic worldbuilding and lore with solid gameplay, a wonderful community, great customer service, and a metric assload of content. pvp isnt balanced and at the higher levels it starts to be more of a "daily grind" type thing, but you can enjoy it casually just fine. the only way to play wow "competitively" is to be a heroic/mythic raider or a high elo arena player.

It's a good game. So if FFXIV.

GW2 is also good, but there's no sub, which means hardly no new content. So once you finish, it's kinda boring. That said, it would take awhile to finish it all. FFXIV releases new patches every 3 months. And they're huge. Blizzard has been slacking on WoW patches for awhile, but still more than GW2.

WoW is very old, so you'd have plenty of stuff to do.
