words i never want to see in game titles again

i think we're running a bit of a creativity deficit when it comes to game titles--they all use the same cliche words and phrases that just make the game sound boring and uninspired

i'm also very shallow, and this stuff genuinely matters to me--i really appreciate a good, creative title

i never need to see these words in game titles ever again:

craft
dark
war
super
dragon
space
star
dead/die/death
born/bourne
age
dawn
black
blood
fire
shadow
demon
world
quest
hero
sky
rise
soul
ghost
down
light
watch
empire
zero
X
any word with a "Z" or an "X" in it
any word with an "S" that can be replaced with a "Z" or an "X"
any word that is misspelled in general to look "cool"

also, i hate it when games try to be minimalist by naming their game a single vague word with one or two syllables

"RUST"
"SMITE"
"LIMBO"

wow, so profound

discuss bad game titles and bad game title trends

Yeah, at least make it sound different. I'm actually surprised they didn't just call the new CoD 'Call of Duty'.

I do like Battlefield 1 as a name though. It's quite funny and links into the WW1 theme.

That's not a problem because the original Battlefield was called Battlefield 1942.

Stand-alone games that have a subtitle ("Tormentum: Dark Sorrow" would be so much better if it was just "Tormentum") are annoying as hell. Same with the first game in a series ("Amnesia: The Dark Descent" would be so much better if it was just "Amnesia").

You either die a hero or live long enough to become Mythic..
I tend to like simple names. Even ones like SMITE and Limbo, because they are enough to describe then. (I:e, SMITE the gods, and Limbo is self explanatory.)

Usually any time they limit it to a single title with no subtitle and only 1-3 words is perfect.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

Ascend is just the last in the series, Starseige: Tribes being the first.

Oddly, Tribes 2 is the only game that has no subtitle and/or a number in the title.

Even born is a bit out there but I agree they lack creativity.

Kings field and armored core aren't exactly winners either.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again--I think it would be great if they came out with a Zelda game that was literally just called Zelda III, with no subtitle. It would be a direct sequel to Zelda II, and it would be a wrap-up of the whole timeline.
