Why is the i7-6700k $800?

Typically the top i7 goes for around $400, why the hell is it double the price? I get its a new chipset but damn this is unheard of. It's not even an E CPU

It's not like I built it in early 2011 and 6 months later the new socket released and it was immediately outdated after being $400 and I could've built my computer 6 months later with better hardware for the same price had I been chosen for a different IT class or anything... >.>
