The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

All video games are 10/10 perfect.

If you disagree, that just means you suck at them, and you have to get good.

Because they tried making it different to the first one (which isn't a bad thing) but fucked it up in some places which resulted in a bit of a mixed bag of quality. The game itself isn't bad but there are some annoying aspects of it which dampen the experience a bit.

People need to take off the nostalgia glasses and realize Dark Souls 1 was a flawed masterpiece in itself.

Covenants as a whole were confusing and convoluted as hell to begin with.

Really the only things that make Dark Souls superior to Dark Souls 2 are the hitboxes and the atmosphere of the first game. I like the vibe of Dark Souls 1 better than 2, and I think most everyone else does too.
Agreed. Story aside (since you can play it without knowing the story), the multiplayer of DS2 was much more accessible as well. Aside from Dark Souls 2 being buff souls and Soul Memory breaking, it did some good things like quick match making, the slight delay on backstabs, and the frontal parry for shields.

Kinda annoyed me that Miyazaki said he's taking the delayed backstabs and front parry away, like it was a bad thing.

I liked Dark Souls 1 MP simply because I could make a build and know that if I stuck on that level, I wouldn't have to worry about being outplayed by some Havel Mage tank fast rolling.

But yeah, mostly I enjoyed DS2's pvp as well, because I came into it at the beginning of the lifespan, rather than the end like I did with DS1.

Two notes.

Too many fucking Knight class enemies in Souls II. I mean, don't get me wrong. Knights are cool. And the whole game centered around fuck tons of castles. But we need more creatures, and less humanoids. Dark Souls is partially inspired from mythology. I want to see more mythological monsters.

And fuck did I hate delayed backstabs. The most pointless fucking thing in pvp. I'd get punished for initiating a backstab because their back was to me but LOL PHANTOM RANGE. If I had the option to remove initiating backstabs for myself entirely from my game for pvp, I would have.

SO many lost hits because the game figured I was going for backstabbu.

Hm... I can understand that argument with backstabs.

As for the knights thing, yeah. DS2 suffered from too many humanoid bosses/enemies in armor. It removed more of the fantasy element if you ask me and went for a more grounded reality.

You know what I want to see, just once in a Souls Game?

Majula was close, but not quite. I want to see a town hub in a souls game that actually has a population of people to it. Like it's the last surviving refuge of people that aren't hollow. But it needs to feel.... more alive. NPCs interacting and such as you progress through the game.

It'd be really nice if your world hub was just incredibly small and homey and something you yourself could interact with more, while the outside world was basically overgrown, abandoned, and ravaged.

Seeing as how Miyazaki's directing this right after Bloodborne, there's a good chance that backstabbing in DS3 will be more like Bloodborne's. (You approach an enemy from behind, fully charge your R2 attack, then when they're in the special staggered animation, you press R1 to execute the backstab.)

Backstab's always been a rather polarizing mechanic in the games lol. The one thing DS2 did right with backstab was not include the damned hornet ring. Everything else that negated or reduced backstab damage was iffy. Wasn't really necessary if there was no hornet ring.

Hm... I can understand that argument with backstabs.

Again with the backstabby thing.
And from a personal standpoint, I always enjoyed the humanoid fights more than the massive Gaping Dragon sized creatures myself. Seemed more like an epic duel between a would be legend (which most humanoids ended up being) rather than just some random big ass creature.

However I do agree with your concerns with there being significantly more human opponents than giant monsters.

I'd enjoy the humanoid fights if they had more variety to them. They were so unmotivated (talking about bosses) and always had the same exact move set of swipe, swipe, thrust or overhead swing.

It was so predictable and easy that it was a drag, and it didn't help they literally took a boss from Dark Souls 1, same music and all, and just multiplied them by 3. Because that was a good idea, right? The Gargoyle fight had to be one of the most annoying boss fights in that game for me, simply because Dark Souls mechanics are not meant to handle that many enemies at once.

"Artificial difficulty" as they call it. Same with the Sif spin off (the Rat King) and his more than lazy rat adds. This isn't an MMO.

The Gargoyle Fight in DS2 was horrible design and possible the biggest pain in the ass boss encounter in the entire game.

Honestly anything boss encounters with more than 2 like... bosses to kill at once is overkill. Like imagine Ornstein and Smough, but with a third character or some jank.

What I didn't like however was the Pursuer boss being reused. I get that he's probably the coolest of the human encounters, but you didn't have to make him appear in multiple parts of the game, sometimes in pairs!

He's got that name for a reason...

Originally he was supposed to a boss encounter who could appear randomly at any, thanks to his giant eagle friend. He would be pursuing you... Anyways, this idea was scrapped for a reason unbeknownst to me and now he's just a boss you can fight multiple times in a playthrough without ascetics.
