Why did/didnt you play Spec Ops: The Line?

Why did or didnt you play this fabulous game Spec Ops: The Line? Did you not play it because it looked like random generic shooter #2000? Did you not play it because of its demo? Well, if those are your excuses, shame on you-go play it!

I can literally sit here for hours and talk your ear off about how this game is anything but generic, or bad. Sure its shooting mechanics are nothing unique, but it works. If you're one of those people that played the demo back in the day, you are missing out on what makes this game amazing. You see, the opening levels of the game are supposed to be your team of elite soldiers killing insurgents to rock music. THAT IS ON PURPOSE! It is to remind you what shooters are to you today, and then turns that on its head later on.

Spec Ops: The Line is an adaptation of The Heart of Darkness. You can argue that its like Apocalypse Now and I would agree!

I didn't buy it initially because it looked like a brown shooty man game. Then I got interested when my friend told me that it was actually really good. Then got dis-interested when he told me the twist at the end.

i tried the demo and didnt like the cover system. it didnt jive with me.

I wouldn't go that far.

Plus, if that's your excuse for playing ME then there's no reason why you shouldn't play this since story is the only thing it has going for it. That and sand.

Heard a lot of good things about it, but it was just never really on my radar.
2010-2012 was really a down time in gaming for me. Tail End of the 360, and just weren't a lot of games I was big on buying. Was in the process of making the jump from dudebro games to jrpgs.

I played it for the whole 'playing the player' meta thing, which is basically the only thing redeeming its horrendous gameplay. It's done so well that any flaws can be forgiven, or at least overlooked. Metal Gear Solid 2 did the same thing over a decade earlier, though, so I'm wondering why it's considered so original.

By the way, has anybody here played the other Spec Ops games?

That's true, which is why I'm puzzled as to why they decided to make The Line a psychological horror.
