if no man's sky came out january 1st, 2010, nobody would even THINK to bring it up

because they would've forgotten about it

because it's not the worst game of the decade

a reasonable person probably wouldn't even put it in their bottom 100, if they played every game that came out 2010-2019

someone described it as "aggressively mediocre" earlier--it's not even that. that just sounds like someone who's SO desperate to dislike the game no matter what, while still feigning a "i'm in the middle, i'm such a reasonable person haha" attitude

the game is enjoyable, but not for everybody--if you're not willing to grant it that much, i don't consider you reasonable

Oh god Halo 5 or No Mans Sky...I'm going with Halo 5 since it's a large AAA game which a large studio manged to fuck up so badly that the game shipped with less or almost the same amount of content as Halo CE. I want to say Battlefront but we already knew it was going to be shit, but for Halo 5 on the other hand I don't think anybody saw the campaign being shit along with the amount of missing content at launch.

None of those are even contenders for the worst game released since 2010.

Battlefront was a technical amd audiovisual masterpiece and is arguably one of the best looking and sounding games on the market. Most complaints you can put forth about it are angry fanboy complaints that it isn't like the originals - as a game, it's functionally mediocre but looks fantastic, and is a perfect realisation of the Star Wars universe.

Halo 5 had a shit story but at least the developers launched it in a functional state. I despise it and consider it one of the worst, if not the worst game I've ever bought, but it's far from being the worst content brought out in the past few years.

NMS would be boring and forgotten about alongside most releases, like Verb said, had it not had a massive hype train. At least the devs were trying to do something cool with it and it still looks amazing from an artistic standpoint. Most of the complaints (Aside from the perfectly valid PC optimisation ones) are in the same vein as the angry fanboy ones for Battlefront. Were they not there, it would have been likely placed alongside games like The Division in the long run, abandoned and forgotten.

If you seriously think any of those are in the running for the worst game of the decade then you don't follow game releases.

Out of the big releases, Destiny is a poor man's Halo that actually costs more to own/play than MCC and 5 combined and there were plenty of buggy/broken launches that were swept under the rug.

Absolute worst is guaranteed to be some unfinished flash game that makes no sense at all and is probably illegal in most countries.
halo is a poor mans destiny

That's my way of saying "it's solidly in the mediocre range (5-6)." It's got the fun of a $20 indie game; a few hours of novelty, and then it wears on you. There's so little reason to play after you realize how obtuse discovering an entire planet is (different birds, plants, etc that look exactly the same), issues with procedural generation (buildings spawning with no doors, the same crashed ship on every planet, things starting to look samey), bugs that are still in the game relating to suit upgrades, poorly-planned out item-stack limits, and so on. These are all issues with the game that greatly impair it's "goodness" without even mentioning how the game was marketed.

You of all people should know that being "fun" doesn't make it good. It's a subjective descriptor. By all accounts, I would not call it a good game. Everything about this game reeks of being an unpolished mess. It's not DNF, but it's not good: ESPECIALLY for a $60 price-tag.

Fable III.

Functionally it's not the worst game I've played but the way it was hyped up to major fans such as myself makes it all the more debressign :-DD

Mass Effect 3, maybe? The bulk of the game is good
god DAMMIT you guys suck at this
I have to agree with Verb on this. Besides Verb's choice, everyone else's choice of worst video games are more medicore than horrible.
I'm pretty sure Brink and Backbreaker are horrible
Brink really wasn't that bad, imo. I picked it up for €4 and had fun playing. Even got all the achievements for it too. It was lacking and unfinished, but even then not worthy of the hate it gets. I can imagine being pissed if you paid full price at release, but worst game of the decade? It still sits at an average of 70/100 on aggregate review websites.
Maybe it's because you got it for that cheap. Try getting it launch day for $60

Huh, I almost completely forgot that it's a $60 game. I was lucky and paid $10 for it--I suppose if I paid six times more, I'd be a lot sharper with my criticism. I definitely wouldn't have paid full-price for this, and I'm not sure why I didn't factor that in at first.

By how much I love defending it, you might think I love the game, but I don't. I agree--I'd give it no more than a 5/10 myself. But just as having a hyped-up media circus around a game is the perfect set-up for mass eventual disappointment, a shitstorm of anti-hype and vitriol towards another game can make you feel a lot more sympathetic--or at least, more willing to study the game's flaws and give it the credit it deserves for what it actually did right.

That's how I work, anyway. It's easy for me to find the pros when everyone else is busy chewing on the cons. In particular, I think the fact that each of the alien races you encounter all speak their own unique language is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a video game. Because in every other game that features aliens, they all speak English, and they always have to try and come up with some bullshit excuse for why. And in NMS, the fact that you have to decipher all the languages yourself is another stroke of brilliance that never gets talked about.

It's little things like that that make me think, "Huh, this game is actually pretty cool." Because they're not actually little things--they're huge things. The entire experience, for me, teaches you not to take the little things for granted by putting them centerstage in a vast, otherwise nihilistically-empty universe. That shit's cool as fuck to me.

So, no, I'm afraid that I simply cannot agree that it's not a good game "by all accounts." You're free to have that opinion, though, and I respect that you're standing your ground on that.

I'm not saying it doesn't have its pros; the space-ground flight and the alien languages are pretty neat. If it had no redeemable factors, it would have been much lower than a 5. The issues is that most of its greater aspects rely on novelty, enough so that it wouldn't make it a "good" game. Mediocre is just the best thing to describe it.

When I say "aggressively mediocre", that's exactly what I mean. I don't think it should be below or above that; otherwise, a little bias is showing imo.

I remember when one of Fable III's main selling points was holding your companions hand as a way to "connect" with them. That should have been my red flag.

Retarded enough to be serious about it, or not retarded enough to think that sports games offer any meaningful variation whatsoever?

If you think sports games are any different from each other, you might just be on the spectrum.

Considering how low of intelligence you have be to enjoy sports in the first place, it's almost guaranteed.

you're the one who gets triggered whenever someone shits on your precious sports

which you're an idiot for enjoying

especially the video games, because they are factually all the same, and you're a mindless drone for purchasing them

it's actually fucking hilarious to me, if a little bit pathetic
