Oh god Halo 5 or No Mans Sky...I'm going with Halo 5 since it's a large AAA game which a large studio manged to fuck up so badly that the game shipped with less or almost the same amount of content as Halo CE. I want to say Battlefront but we already knew it was going to be shit, but for Halo 5 on the other hand I don't think anybody saw the campaign being shit along with the amount of missing content at launch.
Out of the big releases, Destiny is a poor man's Halo that actually costs more to own/play than MCC and 5 combined and there were plenty of buggy/broken launches that were swept under the rug. Absolute worst is guaranteed to be some unfinished flash game that makes no sense at all and is probably illegal in most countries.
someone described it as "aggressively mediocre" earlier--it's not even that. that just sounds like someone who's SO desperate to dislike the game no matter what, while still feigning a "i'm in the middle, i'm such a reasonable person haha" attitude

Besides Verb's choice, everyone else's choice of worst video games are more medicore than horrible.I'm pretty sure Brink and Backbreaker are horribleBrink really wasn't that bad, imo. I picked it up for €4 and had fun playing. Even got all the achievements for it too. It was lacking and unfinished, but even then not worthy of the hate it gets. I can imagine being pissed if you paid full price at release, but worst game of the decade? It still sits at an average of 70/100 on aggregate review websites.

That's my way of saying "it's solidly in the mediocre range (5-6)." It's got the fun of a $20 indie game; a few hours of novelty, and then it wears on you. There's so little reason to play after you realize how obtuse discovering an entire planet is (different birds, plants, etc that look exactly the same), issues with procedural generation (buildings spawning with no doors, the same crashed ship on every planet, things starting to look samey), bugs that are still in the game relating to suit upgrades, poorly-planned out item-stack limits, and so on. These are all issues with the game that greatly impair it's "goodness" without even mentioning how the game was marketed. You of all people should know that being "fun" doesn't make it good. It's a subjective descriptor. By all accounts, I would not call it a good game. Everything about this game reeks of being an unpolished mess. It's not DNF, but it's not good: ESPECIALLY for a $60 price-tag.

It's not DNF, but it's not good: ESPECIALLY for a $60 price-tag.Huh, I almost completely forgot that it's a $60 game. I was lucky and paid $10 for it--I suppose if I paid six times more, I'd be a lot sharper with my criticism. I definitely wouldn't have paid full-price for this, and I'm not sure why I didn't factor that in at first.By how much I love defending it, you might think I love the game, but I don't. I agree--I'd give it no more than a 5/10 myself. But just as having a hyped-up media circus around a game is the perfect set-up for mass eventual disappointment, a shitstorm of anti-hype and vitriol towards another game can make you feel a lot more sympathetic--or at least, more willing to study the game's flaws and give it the credit it deserves for what it actually did right. That's how I work, anyway. It's easy for me to find the pros when everyone else is busy chewing on the cons. In particular, I think the fact that each of the alien races you encounter all speak their own unique language is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a video game. Because in every other game that features aliens, they all speak English, and they always have to try and come up with some bullshit excuse for why. And in NMS, the fact that you have to decipher all the languages yourself is another stroke of brilliance that never gets talked about. It's little things like that that make me think, "Huh, this game is actually pretty cool." Because they're not actually little things--they're huge things. The entire experience, for me, teaches you not to take the little things for granted by putting them centerstage in a vast, otherwise nihilistically-empty universe. That shit's cool as fuck to me.So, no, I'm afraid that I simply cannot agree that it's not a good game "by all accounts." You're free to have that opinion, though, and I respect that you're standing your ground on that.
