In the lead up to its quarterly call with investors, Ubisoft confirmed it won't be releasing a new Assassin's Creed game this year.In the question and answer period at the end of the call, CEO Yves Guillemot said Ubisoft started to question the annualized franchise with the release of Assassin's Creed Unity.Guillemot said his company hopes by moving away from annual iterations of the franchise, it will give the Assassin's Creed teams more time to take advantage of new engines and technology."We are now in a position to take the decision not to release a new Assassin's Creed game" for the company's fiscal year 2016-17, according to Guillemot. Ubisoft's fiscal year 2017 begins in April of this year.Guillemot said Ubisoft plans to grow the Assassin's Creed fanbase with the release of the Assassin's Creed movie this year.Ubisoft noted the last entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, had a "slower launch than expected."In its investor release, Ubisoft also confirmed the upcoming release of Watch Dogs 2 sometime during its fiscal year 2017, which begins April 2016.
I'm glad, but at the same time it's gonna be weird for me not having one, since I've gotten every single one as it's come out. A good kind of weird though, yearly releases are irritating.
