The lock-on combat is a crutch that patches up a clunky combat system.
Wat

slow and methodical =/= clunky combat
Use spears without lock on.
It doesn't have to be hard for you to realize it's clunky.

I've learned that playing Dark Souls without lock on is actually superior. I'd actually say that you're right. Lock on is a crutch. And I never really noticed it until I started experimenting without it, both in pvp and pve.

Spears can be tricky to use even with lock on. If you're not facing your target you won't connect, obviously.

The game does get a lot funner when you get the hang of free camera combat, given you're using a weapon with a well suited moveset.

Metroid Prime

I'm not bothered by the backtracking segments because I really, really like the world.
Plus, when you go back to places you usually have new equipment to get the upgrades you couldn't get last time.

I'm struggling to really think of anything I didn't like. Maybe how the Fusion suit was integrated into the game from the Metroid: Fusion link-ability-thing?
I just didn't like how it looked.

honestly cant complain about much with this game. a more in-depth partner badge system would have been nice. the music got pretty repetitive in certain places too (x naut moon base comes to mind, but that song was so good it doesnt even matter lol). uhmmm some of the puzzles werent exactly intuitive. thats about it lol

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
MW2 has a ton of balancing issues

Starcraft can only let you control 12 units at a time and the unit AI pathing is awful

Halo 2 has the super bouncing and button combos

GTA: San Andreas has a horrific draw distance and has awful map rendering

GTA 5's prices for everything in GTA Online is super ridiculous

some of the trial/error ones like in the x naut fortress (remember, the ones with the claw minigame?) were a little irksome. like the first time in morty's gym figuring out his puzzle. but i mean it still isnt really worth complaining about. such a well designed game.

Bloodborne, meanwhile it's a great experience there are a couple of downsides I want to include;

  • Sometimes the bosses can be too easy when in co-op multiplayer. Since some really high level characters can pretty much solo the boss without breaking a sweat, and it renders the fight unimpressive, if not uninteresting.
  • There are enemies who are too consistent with their AI. That means when you approach them in a specific manner they will always take the same action. Not really a problem, especially with a trial/error and some skill game like Bloodborne, but it becomes tired and old when you're just farming a couple of enemies because you memorized their patterns by the second time you go through them.
